Abstract

This study investigates the specific roles of agents in the development of a tourism village, using a single-case qualitative approach centered on Pujon Kidul Village, Malang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, direct observations, and related document, and subsequently analyzed using a thematic analysis method. The findings reveal that agents play a central and multifaceted role in facilitating community empowerment. These roles include initiating and mobilizing social capital, fostering relationships and access to resources, acting as catalysts with adaptive and innovative habitus, and serving as strategic actors driven by strong motivation, expansive networks, and the capacity to overcome challenges. The study concludes that agents, shaped by a habitus grounded in both professional experience and local cultural values, are instrumental in mobilizing social capital and other resources to initiate and lead the village’s transformative development.

Abstract

This study explores the gaps and enabling factors in implementing collaborative governance to protect Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) at the regional level, using Central Java as a case study. Despite existing policies, protection remains government-dominated, with limited non-governmental involvement. Preventive efforts are lacking because responses tend to be reactive. Through qualitative document analysis, this study examines four dimensions: initial conditions, institutional design, leadership, and collaboration processes. The findings indicate ineffective collaboration due to weak stakeholder engagement. Strengthening partnerships between government and non-governmental actors is essential to enhance migrant worker protection and contribute to regional poverty reduction efforts

Abstract

The New Order era became a crucial point in the relationship between politics and religion in Indonesia, characterised by authoritarian policies and ideological propaganda that generated social tensions. The main debate revolved around the position of religion within the state, which fuelled conflicts in religious practice. The New Order regime applied repressive and co-optative strategies towards Islam, shaping a religious mould that tended to be subservient to power. This research aims to trace the development of Islam during this period by distinguishing between political Islam and political Islam. Through a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, this study focuses on the relationship between state policy and muslim religious expression, as well as its impact on Islamic socio-political dynamics, in order to re-understand the configuration of the relationship between Islam and the state in the New Order era.

Abstract

Indonesia’s political branding has undergone significant shifts as social media emerges as a dominant force in political communication. No longer limited to message distribution, platforms like Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, official websites, and TikTok have become spaces where political identities are constructed, narratives are shaped, and emotional bonds with voters are cultivated. This study analyzes five presidential election cycles (2009–2024) using Andreas Hepp’s theory of deep mediatization, which highlights how media reshape political logic and everyday communicative structures. Social media has evolved into a stage for political performance, where algorithmic visibility, affective narratives, and participatory trends are central to political appeal. Particularly on TikTok, political campaigns increasingly rely on influencers, memes, and emotional storytelling to generate virality and simulate proximity with voters.

Abstract

This literature review critically investigates the evolving nature of terrorism as a non-traditional security threat in the contemporary global system. Drawing upon recent literature and empirical data, this paper explores the ideological, technological, and geopolitical transformations that shape terrorism as a persistent, adaptable, and cross-border phenomenon. This review emphasizes the shift from politically motivated attacks to religious extremism, digital propaganda, and regional instability, particularly in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, it reveals how non-traditional security challenges, such as terrorism, have redefined national and regional policy agendas. It also highlights the role of regional cooperation, ideological narratives, and digital technology in counter-terrorism strategies.
