Abstract

Earthquake resistant building must be designed with a proper plan configuration. Although the regular and symmetrical building plans have been known to have a good behaviour under earthquake loads, but the facts have demonstrated that many asymmetrical plan buildings are built for the architectural reasons. Irregular plan buildings cause mass distribution, stiffness, and strength asymmetries which in turn produce the eccentricity to the centre of mass. In this research, the asymmetrical buildings are simulated under earthquake ground motion containing pulse. The study aims to evaluate the drift and floor rotations that occur in the asymmetrical buildings. The results indicate that the difference in drift of symmetrical and asymmetrical buildings reach 8% to 20%. The rotation occurred on the rigid side (high stiffness side) is smaller than the flexible side (low stiffness side). The difference in eccentricity affects clearly the inelastic floor rotation. Keywords: Eccentricity Stiffness, Pulse Ground Motion, Floor Rotation

Abstract

The addition of elements such as pozzolan ingredients to concrete mixtures has been proven can increase the value of concrete compressive strength. This study aims to determine the microstructural effect on the replacement of 10% of Portland cement weight with bagasse ash (sugarcane bagasse). Scanning Electromicroscopphy Microscopphy (SEM / EDX) shows the dominant percentage of bagasse ash is Silica element 53% in addition to other elements such as Carbon (C) and Hydrogen (H). The C-S-H unsure bond pattern on concrete mortar shows a Type III bonding pattern at early ages and bonding patterns I and III on mortars that have reached the age of 28 days. Porosity level decreases with increasing age of concrete mortar. With the reduced porosity will increase the density and increase the compressive strength of concrete mortar. This porosity level is lower than that of concrete mortar without the addition of bagasse ash.Key words: Microstructure, silica, concrete mortar, compressive strength, porosity.

Abstract

Excess water capacity in river areas will cause flood hazards that mostly occur in downstream areas that are flood areas at high risk as a result of natural processes and the effects of human actions. In the case of floods, water runoff undermines the embankments and drowns agricultural / settlement areas upstream, and is aggravated by considerable sedimentation. Based on the existing problems, the analysis of the discharge and the water level (water profile) becomes very important to get a precise picture of locations prone to the overflow of the river Kr. This pase. Discharge and water profile analysis using HEC RAS software for various return periods. From the results of the research is expected to get a clear picture of the location that is vulnerable to overflow so that in handling the river will be on target. Based on the calculation using HEC RAS software, at point P 581 the water level condition at 2.3 years discharge the difference of the height of the embankment and the water level is 50 cm to 60 cm, while in the discharge condition 25 years the elevation of the face almost passes through the dike's height with a selisish of about 10 -15 cm. This condition is an unsafe category because for rivers whose debit is greater than 15 m3/s the minimum wavelength is 1.00 m. So that with good conditions at 2.3 years discharge and 25 years of discharge is very potential to occur overflow. Keywords: discharge, waterlevel, flood

Abstract

The development of prestressed concrete is growing rapidly as the widespread construction technology. The use of prestressed concrete supports infrastructure development in Indonesia , especially Kualanamu Railway overpass in the city of Medan that use Box Girder with sectional height 2400 mm as a structural component . The case study of prestressed concrete box girder Railway flyover with spans of 40 meters Kualanamu explain sectional effectiveness girders whereare internaltendons filled in strand steel cables. 12.7 mm totaling 60 pieces. Further analyzing the percentage loss of prestressing force that occurs in the tendon due to the shortening of the elastic, friction on the tendon , creep , shrinkage of the concrete and so on. Additionally introduced step by step production process prestressed concrete box girder ranging from reinforcement to casting in the precast concrete plant. Keywords: Prestressed concrete , box girder, loss of prestressed

Abstract

Land is a very influential material in a road construction work. Soil has properties that can interfere with a road construction such as relatively large shrinkage and low CBR values. One of the land improvement efforts under study is stabilization using cement and lime. The objectives of this study were to compare the clay CBR values before and after stabilization with the addition of cement and lime respectively 0%, 6%, 12% and 18% based on dry soil weight with a period of 4 days. Tests cover physical and mechanical properties of soil compaction and CBR Laboratory by referring to SNI for each test. The result of the unsoaked CBR testing was 18.2% after 4 days of curing there was an increase of 184.4% in 18% cement addition and 21.0% in the addition of 18% lime and the soaked CBR testing was 6.1% after being soaked for 4 days There was a 157.8% increase in cement 18% and 17.3% increase in the addition of 18% chalk. Cement and lime form a binding material resulting in an increase in the value of CBR. The use of cement and lime can increase the carrying capacity of clay soils as the percentage of cement and lime increases. Keywords: clay soil, cement and lime, CBR.

Abstract

The increasing demand for housing nowadays causes the need for more building materials. It can provide an alternative to exploit industrial waste that is left alone. Wood powder is a waste obtained from sawmills using both machinery and manuals. Sawdust can also be used as a silencer. In this study, wood waste is used for partial substitution of fine aggregate used in light brick making mix. In this study discusses the characteristics of soundproofing with the utilization of wood sawdust waste, PC cement, and sand as its forming material. In this study, wood sawdust used is from North Sumatra with variation of 0%, 20%, and 30% (mass) compositions, while other material compositions are made constant. With a wooden powder size of 0.25 mm - 2.0 mm. For testing of silencer will be made of cylindrical test object with diameter 11 cm and thickness 6 cm as much as 6 specimen. The results of this study indicate that the 30% sawdust mixture in the third variation shows the highest absorption coefficient value of 0.6832 with the frequency of 1000 Hz with absorption coefficient 0.50% and with the velocity of the sound wave indicates 683.2 m / s . From this research, it can be concluded that the greater the percentage of sawdust mixture, the greater the ability to muffle the noise. Keywords: Lightweight soundproof brick, acoustic, absorption, sawdust
