Abstract

Antrachnose disease caused by Colletotrichum sp. is one of the important diseases of strawberry in the field or after postharvest. The environmentally-friendly control measures is the use of botanical pesticides. Botanical pesticides that are commonly used by the farmers are mixture of several kinds of plant extract. This paper discuses the effects of combining water extract of garlic, galangal rhizome, and betel leaves on their efficacy in inhibiting conidial germination of Colletotrichum sp., the growth of miselium in vitro and the development of antracnose disease in strawberry. Preliminary study was conducted to determine the concentration of the extract that was used for further experiment. The experiment was arranged in the completely randomized design with 10 treatments involving water extract of garlic, galangal rhizome, betel leaves and their mixtures, fungicide and control/check. Each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed that combination of water extract of garlic, galangal rhizome and betel leaves did not enhance their efficacy. The inhibition effect of garlic water extract (5% concentration) was relatively better than its mixtures with galangal and betel leaves (total concentration 15%). The effects of galangal rhizome or betel leaves water extract and their mixtures were not significantly different. Water extract of garlic (15 %) inhibited Colletotrichum sp. which was showed by inhibition zone of 9.3 mm width; and suppressed the antrachnose disease in strawberry stolon by 83,7 %.

Abstract

Population of brown plant hopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stal) is one of the major rice pest that is threatening rice production in Indramayu. Integrated pest management is needed to control the population of brown plant hopper (BPH). To construct effective strategy of Integrated Pest Management, a survey to obtain information about the population of BPH and the diversity of its natural enemies predator and parasitoid is required. The result of the survey showed that fluctuation of BPH population was evidence. BPH occurs from the 1st week of observation and the population was rising until the 5th week of observation and hence the population declined until the 12th week of observation. This population decline was caused by BPH’s live cycle followed the growth phase of rice plant. Correlation between climate factors and fluctuation of BPH population was not significant. Based on Shanon-Wiener diversity index analysis, the diversity of natural predators of BPH was medium with the value of H’ of 1,83 due to  uniform field condition

Abstract

In Indonesia, Inceptisols is the largest soil order on which intensive agriculture is done. The fertility of this soil order is low, so that it is necessary to improve the soil fertility by using biofertilizers and organic matter. The objectives of this experiment were to determine the effect of a biofertilizer that contains microbe Azotobacter sp., Vermicompost and N, P, K Fertilizer on N content, the population of Azotobacter sp., and the yield of the Edamame soybeans at Inceptisols Jatinangor. A Field experiment was conducted by using Randomized Blocked Design consisted of 10 treatments and three replication. The combinations of these treatments consisted of: control (no treatment), the dose recommendation Urea 100 kg ha-1 + SP36 150 kg ha-1 + KCl 125 kg ha-1, 5 ton ha-1 vermicompost + ½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 5 ton ha-1 vermicompost + 1 recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 5 ton ha-1 vermicompost + 1½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 10 ton ha-1 vermicompost + ½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 10 ton ha-1 vermicompost + 1 recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 10 ton ha-1 vermicompost + 1½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K, 5 ton ha-1 vermicompost +  ½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K + liquid biofertilizers 5 L ha-1, 10 ton ha-1 Vermicompost + ½ recommendation ha-1 N, P, K + liquid biofertilizers 5 L ha-1.  The experimental results showed that the combined treatment of liquid biofertilizer, Vermicompost and N, P, K fertilizer enhanced the population of Azotobacter sp. and weight of soybean but did not significantly influence N uptake.

Abstract

Obstace of pakoba (Syzygium luzonense (Merr.) Merr.) cultivation in nursery is  twig caterpillar (Hyposidra talaca WLK) attacks. The Pest symptoms was holes in the leaves especially young leaves; twig caterpillar enable to attack all leaves of pakoba seed. Severe attacks cause death of seedlings. There are five blocks in pakoba nursery that were observed; 1014 pakoba seedlings were grown in these blocks. The average percentage of twig caterpillar’s attack was quite high, reached 49.34%. Twig caterpillar has been controlled by integrated pest management. Chemical control to decrease twig caterpillars attack in nursery has been done by using half dose of insecticide profenofos.

Abstract

The use of either liquid or carrier-based biofertilizers reduced the application of excessive inorganic fertilizers. The purpose of this research was to verified the effect of biofertilizer application of Bokelas Plus (BP) and NPK inorganic fertilizer on the intensity of dumping off diseases, growth and yield of long bean plants. The experiment have been done in experimental field of Agricultural Extension Center of Baguala Sub-district in Nania Village, Ambon city. The treatments were 400 kg NPK / ha, 300 kg NPK / ha, 200 kg NPK / ha, 75 kg BP / ha + 400 kg NPK / Ha, 75 kg BP / ha + 300 kg NPK / ha, and 75 kg BP / ha + 200 kg NPK / ha. The results showed that the application of biofertilizer BP and NPK fertilizer affected intensity of wilt disease caused by Scerotium rolfsii pathogen, plant height, long and pea pod weight. The best dose was 75 kg BP / ha + 300 kg NPK / ha. This experiment suggest that BP biofertilizer reduced the use of NPK fertilizer by 25%.

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination in paddy field which came from industry nearby and agricultural input. Increased level of toxic heavy metal cadmium will threat rice production and quality. Bioremediation by used of rhizosphere bacteria is an easy, cheap and effective method to control toxic metal uptake. Pot experiment has been done to study the change in cadmium uptake after biofertilizer Azotobacter chroococcum inoculation and some soil ameliorant. Expirement has been carried out in factorial completely randomized block design with A. chroococcum and ameliorant as treatments.   Either Azotobacter inoculation or soil ameliorant didn’t change soil acidity, the soil still neutral. Rhizosphere of paddy received biochar, hay compost and biochar and inoculated with 108 cfu mL-1 Azotobacter was colonized by more Azotobacter compared to uninoculated one. All plant treated with Azotobacter has higher nitrogen uptake but lower cadmium uptake. This experiment suggested that biofertilizer Azotobacter has a significant role to decrease cadmium uptake by padi, an important food crop.
