Abstract

Introduction: Aggressive periodontitis is a periodontal disease that runs rapidly, characterized by gross alveolar bone loss, the disease is unprompted by complaints, not related to local aspects. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Aloe vera hydrogel on the number of neutrophil cells in aggressive periodontitis induced by A. actinomycetemcomitans in Wistar rats. Methods: This type of research is a laboratory experimental design with post-test only design with control group design. This study used 24 Wistar rats divided into 6 groups, namely, negative control group (Basic hydrogel), ibuprofen and hydrogel Aloe vera 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%. Results: The test results for the mean number of neutrophil cells in the hydrogel aloe vera group of 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, ibuprofen, and negative controls were 120.50 ± 12.92, 78.25 ± 7.37, 47, 25 ± 4.03, 1.00 ± 0.82, 0.50 ± 0.58, and 217.25 ± 62.26. The results of the oneway Anova statistical test obtained p value = 0.001, which means that there is a difference in the number of neutrophils of Wistar rats in all treatment groups. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study there is the effect of giving hydrogel aloe vera a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20% with ibuprofen on Wistar rats induced by aggressive periodontitis.

Abstract

Introduction: Pulmonary malignancies may easily be overlooked and valuable time may be lost. Lung cancer is sometimes diagnosed as a tuberculous cavity or an abscess. Abscess formation can appear in several different ways. Carcinoma that occurs in medium-sized bronchi causes partial bronchial obstruction, atelectasis, and infection due to retention. Inflammation can progress to damage to lung tissue, resulting the formation of multiple suppurative foci or more localized lung abscess. The link between lung abscess and lung cancer has been known, but the presence of malignancy in lung abscesses often undiagnosed. Obstruction from lung cancer can predispose to the development of a lung abscess. Case of a 54 year old man with increased pain at the right chest when breathing in since two months. On physical examination, it was found decreased of fremitus at the right hemithorax, deafness and decreased breath sounds as high as the II - V thoracic right hemithorax. Thorax CT-scan showed a round, homogeneous (HU: 17-30), with a cavity-like image with air fluid level, size: 7,88 cm x 8,2 cm x 9,29 cm and honey comb appearance around it. On the examination of TTNA (Transthoracic Needle Aspiration) results obtained Squamous Cell Carcinoma. A lobectomy is planned for the patient. Conclusion: We reported a rare case, a 54 year old male patient, with the diagnosis of Carcinomatous Lung Abscess. This case report was prepared with the aim of increasing awareness of malignancy in patients with a clinical presentation of abscesses, especially in old age.

Abstract

COVID-19 outbreak is currently being concerned for managing patients withimmunological disorders nowadays, including SLE. Lupus is a complexautoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies that againstcell nucleus involved many organs in the body. Patients with SLE will increaserisk of severe infection because the intrinsic respond attack with their immunerespond though immunosuppressive drugs consumption, and will potentiallydamage some organs target associated with their disease. Lupus have multipleclinical manifestations with a fluctuating symptom. Patient who come with thesymptom ofbreathlessness will getworse day by day. The symptom could be felt inthe same time as fatigue, joint pain, hair loss, malar rash, oral ulcer, pleuraleffusion and swollen feet. There's a patient with antinuclear antibody positive foranti-smith and anti-Ro/SS-A. She was diagnosed with COVID-19, SLE withnephritis, haemolytic anemia, vasculitis and pleural effusions. The clinicalmanifestations of this patient indicate a COVID-19 with lupus nephritis that hassevere disease. She was being treated with methylprednisolone andhydroxychloroquine for SLE and azithromycin plus oseltamivir as a therapy forCOVID-19. The effect of hydroxychloroquine on SARS-CoV-2 was better seen inpatients with SLE who gotthe medication regularly. Patients went home after 24days of hospitalization after negative RT-PCR results and clinical improvement ofLES.

Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is still a major health problem in the world. In the case of breast cancer, surgery is the main treatment option besides chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy such as Artemisia vulgaris (AV). AV is cytotoxic selectively acts as a supplement to breast adenocarcinoma chemotherapy given the Adriamycin-Cyclophosphamide regimen, to improve chemotherapy response.The study was aimed to proving AV extract enhances the chemotherapy response in C3H mice with adenocarcinoma mammae given Adriamycin-Cyclophosphamide Chemotherapy. Method: This study used Post test only control group design on 24 females C3H mice that were randomly selected and divided into four groups: group K (control), P1 (chemotherapy), P2 (extract), and P3 (combination). Adenocarcinoma mammae comes from the inoculation of donor mice. Chemotherapy of Adriamycin 60 mg / m 2 and Cyclophosphamide 600 mg / m 2 were given in two cycles. AV 13 mg (0.2 ml) was given once daily orally. CD34 were evaluated by imunohistochemical staining and tumor mass diameter were counted by calipers. Result: The microvascular density CD34 and tumor mass diameter were obtained in groups of K, P1, P2, P3 respectively 60.76 ± 1.5; 39.70 ± 2.00; 57.10 ± 1.29; 35.26 ± 2.06 and 12.52 ± 1.49; 6.20 + 1.04; 9,94 + 1.21; 3.94 + 0.76. Statistical analysis showed significant differences in CD34 between groups K vs P1, P2, P3 (p = 0.001, p = 0.014, p = 0.001), P1 vs P2 and P3 (p = 0.001, p = 0.033) and P2 (P = 0.001). Tumor mass diameter between groups K vs P1, P2, P3 (p=0.001; p=0.014; p=0,001), P1 with P2 (p= 0.001) P1 with P3 (p = 0.033) and P2 with P3 (p = 0.001). Correlation analysis between CD34 with tumor mass diameter was found to have significant correlation (p = 0.001 and r = 0.932). Conclusion: Artemisia vulgaris is a potential to reduce angiogenesis in terms of decreasing the microvascular density CD34 and tumor mass diameter of adenocarcinoma mammae of C3H mice treated with Adriamycin-Cyclophosphamide chemotherapy and can improve the effectivity.

Abstract

Wound healing disorder are often found in people with diabetes mellitus. Low Intensity Pulse Ultrasound (LIPUS) therapy was developed to accelerate the wound healing process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of LIPUS on wound closure and angiogenesis after skin excision in rats model diabetes mellitus type 2.Twenty-four Sprague dawley rats that match the inclusion criteria were made into type 2 diabetes mellitus by injecting Nicotinamide and Streptozotocin, then devided into six group: DM3, DM7, DM14, DML3, DML7, DML14, with 4 rats each. All rats were made excision wound with punch biopsy in the back area. DML group receive LIPUS therapy in the wound area (frequency 3 MHz, intensity 0,5 W/cm 2 , duty cycle 20%, duration 3 minutes every day) for three days (DML3), seven days (DML7) and fourteen days (DML14). Wound area was measured and the tissue was staineing with hematoksciline eiosin to observe the density of angiogenesis.Two Way ANOVA used to to analyze the differences in the variable wound area and angiogenesis density, Post Hoc LSD to analyze the differences in variables between groups and the day of observation, showed the area of the wound in the DML was lower than in the DM group significant on day 3 and 7, whereas the density of the angiogenesis in DML group was higher than DM group significant on day 7 and 14. The Pearson test showed a correlation between the wound closure and the angiogenesis density (p = 0,000; r = -0,785). Conclusion: LIPUS therapy accelerate wound closure on day 3 and 7and increase the density of angiogenesis on day 7 and 14.

Abstract

Syphilis, is sexually transmitted disease caused by spirochete Treponema pallidum subsp.pallidum. It have many diverse clinical manifestations that occur in distinct stages. Early diagnosis and management are the main things to prevent transmission and complication. Direct test or morphological observation is the definitive diagnosis of syphilis. This can be done through animal inoculation test, dark field microscopy, direct fluorescence antibody (DFA), and nucleid acid amplification test (NAAT). While the indirect test is a nontreponemal serologic test consist of Wasserman test, venereal disease research laboratory (VDRL), toluidine red unheated serum test (TRUST), unheated serum reagin (USR), rapid plasma reagin (RPR) and treponemal serologic test, such as T. pallidum passive particle agglutination (TPPA), T. pallidum haemagglutination assay (TPHA), fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-Abs), enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and rapid test. The algorithm of serologic test can be divided into traditional or reverse.

Abstract

Introduction: Congenital deafness is a hearing loss that occurs at birth. Congenital deafness in neonates can be caused by risk factors during pregnancy and during the birth process. The tests carried out for hearing screening for neonates in hospital up to 1 month old are Otoaccoustic Emission (OAE) and Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) examinations. Objective: Determining the relationship between family history of deafness, syndromes associated with sensorineural hearing loss, TORCH infection and prenatal syphilis, use of ototoxic drugs during pregnancy, prematurity, low birth weight, asphyxia, and hyperbilirubinemia with the incidence of congenital deafness in children Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted based on medical record datas from children who underwent OAE and ABR examinations at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang hospital from January 2019 to February 2021. Results: From the 349 children, 180 (51.6%) had bilateral OAE and ABR pass results, 161 (46.1%) had bilateral referrals and 8 (2.3%) children received unilateral refer results. From 122 children with risk factors, 38 (31.1%) children with bilateral passes, 81 (66.4%) children with bilateral referrals and 3 (2.5 %) children with unilateral refer. From 227 children without risk factors, 142 (62.6 %) children with a bilateral pass, 80 (35.2 %) children with bilateral referrals and 5 (2.2%) children with unilateral refer. The most common risk factor was LBW of 41 (11.7%) children. Chi square test and logistic regression analysis results showed a significant relationship between ototoxic drugs during pregnancy and congenital deafness (p = 0.001) with referral results, the value of Odd Ratio (OR) 9.651. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between risk factors for ototoxic drugs during pregnancy, TORCH and syphilis infection during pregnancy, asphyxia, congenital syndrome, LBWand hyperbilirubinemia with congenital deafness.

Abstract

Genital herpes is a recurrent, lifelong sexual transmitted infection caused by HSV, especially type 2. Genital herpes is the most common infection in HIV patient. HSV-2 can increase the risk of HIV acquisition 2 to 3 times. Clinical manifestations of genital herpes can be different between HIV- infected and non-HIV patients. HIV-infected patients have a high risk of developing chronic and severe genital ulcers with atypical manifestation, prolonged healing, and resistant to treatment, depends on CD4 count. Genital herpes can be diagnosed based on history, clinical manifestation, laboratory and histopathologic examination. Management of genital herpes includes education and counseling patients and sexual partners, systemic antiviral, and symptomatic treatment.

Abstract

Introduction: Honey is believed to be used in the topical treatment of wounds and burns due to its anti-bacterial and wound healing promotion activities. The sugar content in honey is high enough to inhibit microbial growth. This case report reports the clinical efficacy of using honey as a postoperative hysterectomy wound dressing with type 2 diabetes mellitus complications. Case Presentation: A woman, 40 years old, lived in Palembang, housewife, came with complaints of open surgical scars and smelling pus. The patient is a postoperative patient with cesarean section with indications of a prolonged latent phase and macrosomia. The patient also had a history of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus since 8 years ago. Intraoperatively, a wound dehiscence is obtained in the lower uterine segment and adhesions between the anterior uterine body and the omentum and transverse colon. The patient finally underwent a supracervical hysterectomy and the surgical secretions were examined for bacterial culture and antibiotic resistance. During wound care, the patient's surgical wound was treated using honey dressings. Patient experienced improvement after treatment for 12 days post-operation. Conclusion: Honey has antibacterial and tissue regeneration ability which is high enough to heal surgical wounds. Further studies are needed for the application of honey to postoperative wounds more widely

Abstract

Introduction: Campylobacter rectus and Provetella intermedia bacteria as the main etiology causes of periodontal disease. One of the locally synthesized antimicrobials that is widely used for the treatment of periodontitis is Chlorhexidine, however this drug has side effects when used continuously. To overcome this, an alternative periodontitis therapy with medicinal plants is needed. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of hydrogel Aloe vera antibacterial concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 10% and 20% in the bacteria Campylobacter rectus and Provetella intermedia. Methods: This study was a laboratory experimental study with posttest only control group design in vitro. The samples were Campylobacter rectus and Provetella intermedia. The number of groups in this study was six. The sample size was determined by Federer's formula and obtained four replications for each group. Data collection by measuring the inhibition diameter using a slide caliper. Data were analyzed using oneway ANOVA and posthoc LSD. Results: The results showed that there was a difference in the diameter of the hydrogel Aloe vera inhibition with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20% and a positive control for Campylobacter rectus and Provetella intermedia bacteria. Conclusion: This study concluded that there is an antibacterial effectiveness of hydrogel Aloe vera in concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 10% and 20% on Campylobacter rectus and Provetella intermedia bacteria.
