Abstract

This research shows that the reason that grade 4 students do not show interest in reading fiction stories in elementary school is because the learning model is monotonous, not suitable for grade 4 students, so students get bored quickly when studying. This can happen. Researchers use mixed methods that combine explanatory sequential design and discovery learning models to increase students' interest in reading fiction stories. Various tools are used to collect data, such as tests, student questionnaires, teacher questionnaires, teacher interviews, teacher observation forms, and student observation forms, which are processed quantitatively and qualitatively. Research samples consisting of 36 students at Sukasari Elementary School, Sukasari Village, Gununghar District, West Bandung Regency. From the research results we can conclude that the learning model was found to be very good in the novel content reading abilities of class IV students. It can be proven that the post-test results are good and increase significantly at the end of student learning.

Abstract

This research investigates the development of creative thinking capacity in students in specific science material about ecosystems. There are several targets aimed at by this research, namely: (a) measuring the increase in Creative Thinking capacity through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning method, (b) evaluating student reactions to the Problem Based Learning method in order to hone Creative Thinking, and (c) recording the obstacles that arise. faced by teachers in applying the Problem Based Learning method to strengthen Creative Thinking. This research uses a quantitative and qualitative approach with a sequential explanatory framework. The research was carried out at an elementary school located in Ngamprah, involving 31 students and a class teacher. Data collection was carried out through observation, student reaction surveys, and interviews with teachers. Data analysis used the normality test, N-gain test, and t test assisted by SPSS 23 software. The findings from this study show that: (a) the implementation of the Problem Based Learning method is effective in increasing students' Creative Thinking capacity, as evidenced by an increase in N scores -gain of 0.58 in the medium category, starting from a pretest score of 33% which rose to 77% in the posttest, where this learning model is considered successful if the N-gain score obtained is more than 0.3 in the same category, (b) students expressed positive reactions to the application of the Problem Based Learning method based on survey data, (c) challenges faced by teachers during the application of the Problem Based Learning method included a lack of collaboration between students and difficulties for teachers in managing students who were less active in helping their classmates because they were more focused on their individual activities.

Abstract

Belum optimalnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa khususnya di SD melatar belakangi penelitian ini, sehingga untuk mengatasinya diperlukan model pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh penggunaan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berbasis Socio Scientific Issue (SSI) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas IV di SDN Mekarsari. Model PBL berbasis SSI ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan memecahkan masalah yang kaitannya dengan isu sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode mix methode dengan jenis penelitian one group pretest dan posttest, yang sampelnya berjumlah 25 siswa. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen tes, angket, wawancara, dan observasi. Hasil data kuantitatif memperoleh n-gain skor sebesar 0.63 dengan interpretasi cukup efektif dan dikuatkan oleh uji Cohen Effect Size dengan perolehan hasil 2.91 artinya bahwa pengaruh model tersebut tergolong dalam kategori tinggi. Hasil data kualitatif berdasarkan angket kesulitan siswa yaitu sebagian kecil siswa sulit dalam menyimpulkan, menjelaskan permasalahan lebih rinci bersama kelompok, dan memahami materi secara kritis. Adapun hasil observasi dan wawancara kesulitan guru yaitu guru sulit mengkondisikan siswa secara kelompok ketika diberikan permasalahan isu sosial. Kesulitan siswa dan guru tersebut hanya sebagian kecil, sehingga dapat teratasi. Model ini diharapkan dapat menjadi variasi pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sehingga pembelajaran menjadi bermakna.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the quantum learning model assisted by Canva application in improving the early reading skills of grade 2 students. The use of this model was based on the problem of low motivation, interest, and less engaging learning activities. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 22 grade 2 students at SDN Cibeber 3, Cimahi City. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test, normalized gain (N-Gain) test, and a questionnaire to assess students' responses after following this learning model. The results showed that: 1) There was a significant increase in students' early reading skills after following the quantum learning model assisted by Canva application; 2) The N-gain score of 0.46 or 46% was categorized as less than effective; 3) Further development and efforts are needed to improve the effectiveness of using the quantum learning model; and 4) The results of the student questionnaire indicated that the illustrations on the learning texts helped students become more enthusiastic during the learning process.

Abstract

This research has several objectives, including to find out; (1) the increase in the application of the Problem Based Learning model to student learning activities; (2) the process of applying the Problem Based Learning model in improving students' concept understanding abilities; and (3) the obstacles faced by teachers and students in implementing learning by using the Problem Based Learning model. The method used is mix method with sequential explanatory design. The research was located at SD Negeri Cigugur Tengah Mandiri 1 with 30 fifth grade students as the research subjects. Data collection techniques through tests (pretest and posttest), observation sheets, interviews and questionnaires. Based on quantitative data obtained through the N-gain test, there is an increase in the concept understanding ability of fifth grade students with an N-gain score of 0.73 categorized as high. While the qualitative data results of the acquisition of student response questionnaire scores obtained an average value of 85% in the “Very Good” category and the teacher's questionnaire gave a positive response. The obstacles faced by students include difficulties in understanding the concept of material changes in the form of objects, students are less actively involved in working in groups so that the material presented is not well absorbed by students, lack of self-confidence so that students are embarrassed to be active in asking questions and presenting the results that have been obtained. The obstacles faced by teachers from the results of interviews reveal that the level of students' ability to understand the material is different, lack of concentration, less active in learning and lack of props because it must require extra time and sufficient costs.
