Abstract

This research aims to get a description of strength-based parenting (SBP) on college students. The topic of parenting has been widely researched by experts. One of the parenting theories that is currently being developed from a positive psychological approach is strength-based parenting (SBP). The research about SBP, especially in Indonesia, is still limited. This research was conducted on 94 students of the Faculty of Psychology at "X" University by filling out a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 14 items designed by Lea Waters (2017) using a Likert scale. All items are valid with validity values from 0.316 to 0.636. The reliability value of the questionnaire was 0.914 so it is reliable. Data analysis techniques using frequency distribution. This study obtained that 71% of college students appreciate the SBP conducted by their parents is in the high-use category. So, it can be said that most parents already know college students’ strengths and encourage them to use these strengths in their daily lives. The benefits of this research can be used as a basis for other researchers to research on SBP. Also, parents are expected to be able to use this research as a basis to help themselves to do parenting based on SBP. Keywords: Parenting, Positive Psychology, Strength-based Parenting

Abstract

Research on the reliability and validity of the academic buoyancy construct is important considering that there is currently no instrument specifically used to measure or assess academic buoyancy in Indonesia. The subjects in this study were 1352 junior and senior high school students in Bandung. The academic buoyancy scale used in this study is an adaptation of the academic buoyancy questionnaire developed by Martin and Marsh (2008). The analytical method used is confirmatory factor. The results showed that the items for the academic buoyancy scale had SLF values ??ranging from 0.647 to 0.843 so that all items could be said to be valid. The CR value is 0.823 and the VE is 0.54 which means that the academic buoyancy scale can be trusted. The direction for mass research is to take research subjects from different educational levels so that discussions about academic buoyancy in Indonesia can be more comprehensive. Abstract

Visual perception ability is the ability to interpret and organize visual information. This ability is related to the ability to interpret visual stimuli that play a role in the child's learning process, one of which is learning to read. The purpose of this study was to measure and describe the visual perception ability of grade 1 elementary school students as an effort to detect reading difficulties. Measurement of visual perception uses the Marianne Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception (Frostig Test) which measures aspects of visual perception such as eye and motor coordination, hidden shape recognition, consistent shape perception, shape perception in various positions and spatial relationships. Data was collected by calculating the Frostig test scores presented to the subjects. The subjects in this study were 64 children aged 6-8 years who were registered as grade 1 elementary school students. The results showed that the low scores on several subtests of the Frostig Test could be an indication of difficulties in learning to read in students. Keywords: visual perception, reading difficulties, frostig test

Abstract

Changes in beliefs are often referred to religious conversions. This study aims to describe and understand the religious conversion experience of a young man to become an Orthodox Jew. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research strategy. The data analysis method used the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method. The results of this study illustrate that the informant's belief in religious conversion is because he has Jewish blood and has been familiar with Judaism since childhood. The informant's parents gave him the freedom to choose what religion suits him. So that when the informant performs religious conversion, the informant does not experience significant obstacles. The obstacle is the requirements to become an Orthodox Jew which is quite complicated. Likewise, social relations are not too affected by religious conversion. Until now, the informant continues to internalize the teachings of his new religion. Keywords: conversion, IPA, Jews, phenomenological, religion

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in resilience between adolescent students whose parents work as migrant workers and those who are non-migrant workers in Indramayu, West Java. This research was conducted using a comparative descriptive method with a quantitative approach. There were 150 respondents aged 15-17 years consisting of 75 adolescent students with TKI parents and 75 adolescent students with non-TKI parents. The resilience was measured using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The result shows a significant difference of resilience, where the resilience level of adolescents with non-TKI parents is higher than adolescents with parents who work as migrant workers. An important implication of this research is the need for a psychoeducational program for adolescents with parents of migrant workers in synergy with the school in order to increase the resilience of these adolescents in dealing with pressures and problems both at home, at school and in social life. Keywords: teenagers, migrant workers’ parents, non-migrant workers’ parents, resilience; Indramayu

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) cases keep increasing in Indonesia, hence the increasing need of adequate capabilities in mothers with ASD child. However, raising an ASD child is not easy and mothers may lose their Parental Self-Efficacy during the process. To improve Parental Self-Efficacy, mothers need relevant strategies such as Sensory Processing Knowledge. Research in the United States has proven the positive influence of Sensory Processing Knowledge on Parental Self-efficacy. However, it is necessary to confirm such result in the context of Indonesian collective culture. This study involved 50 mothers with ASD child. The research instruments were KEPSA and PASEC. Spearman Rank-Order Correlation Test showed that Sensory Processing Knowledge did not have a significant positive relationship with Parental Self-Efficacy of mothers with ASD child in Indonesian context. The discussion shed further need to understand how characteristics of mothers in collectivistic cultures may be involved in the way they raise an ASD child. Further research were suggested to examine the contribution of various factors that may affect Parental Self-Efficacy. Keywords: parental self-efficacy, sensory processing knowledge, autism spectrum disorder, collective culture

Abstract

The maritime kingdom of Srivijaya in its heyday not only controlled the world's spice trade routes, but also became the center of education and the spread of Buddhism in highly developed Southeast Asia. Buddhism gradually disappeared in the archipelago with the fall of the Majapahit kingdom, but left traces of relics to this day, such as historical sites, language and culture. Through literature study using interpretive descriptive method in this paper, the author would like to reintroduce the teachings of Buddha, especially from the psychological and ethical point of view, based on the Tipitaka Canon Pali scriptures. The psychological ethics of Buddhism is contained in the Abhidhamma Pitaka which is the third collection of Buddhist scriptures. Man in the Buddhist view is a psychophysical combination of mind (nāma) and matter/body (rūpa). Mind is a combination of consciousness (citta) and mental factors (cetasika), this combination is a variety of states of mind. There are 121 kinds of consciousness, 52 kinds of mental factors and 28 material elements, according to the ethics are classified into good, bad and neutral, but explained from a psychological point of view, most of them are psychological data analysis. Awareness is the originator of one's speech and behavior, good awareness can trigger good speech and behavior, and vice versa. The human personality is conditioned and maintained by the activity of consciousness and its effects, one's character is also determined by consciousness. The psychology of Buddhism has been integrated with modern western psychology, which is called "Conjunctive Psychology". The interdependent process of the psycho-physical functioning of the human personality, is a very important process in the psycho-therapeutic method of Buddhism..
