Abstract

Teak particle produced from sawmill industrial waste can be used as an alternative raw material for growing mushroom media. This study aims to get the productivity of oyster mushrooms that grow on teak particle growing media. The first treatment was carried out on teak particle before the particle was mixed with other ingredients, namely soaking teak particle using hot water (each for one, two and three hours) and cold water (each for five, seven and nine days). Soaking of teak particle influences the rate of fungal mycelium closure, the time of appearance of the mushroom fruit body, the fresh weight of mushrooms and the amount of mushroom harvest in each blog. On nine days of cold soaking, the blog is entirely covered by fungal mycelium on the 28th day, the mushroom fruit body appears on the 32nd day, the average fresh weight of mushrooms harvested 90 g and in one blog can collect mushrooms 2-3 times. The treatment of soaking wood particle in cold water for nine days showed better results compared to controls and other treatments.Key words: Pleurotus ostreotus, Tectona grandis, growing media

Abstract

Mangrove forests have a special function, namely as a green belt which is certainly very important for human life. Health of forests, especially mangrove forests, is often overlooked regarding their health conditions. The health condition of the mangrove forest is very influential on its sustainability, so to know its health, one of the indicators that can be used is fauna biodiversity. Fauna biodiversity can be known by using the FHM (Forest Health Monitoring) method to determine the diversity and condition of health status. Mangrove forest in Pasir Sakti Sub-District, East Lampung Regency has a diversity of 9 species of birds and 5 types of epifauna diversity. Based on this, the Mangrove Forest of Pasir Sakti District, East Lampung Regency has a good forest health status.

Abstract

Palm trees have high economic potential because almost all parties can provide financial benefits. But of all palm products, the palm sap that comes from the male flower arm as an ingredient for the production of brown sugar is the greatest economic value. However, there are some people who prefer to cut palm trees for cultural purposes instead of properly handling them to be used as brown sugar. This research aims to analyze the carrying capacity and potential of palm trees in Lanne Village. The location of this investigation was carried out in Lanne Village, Tondong Tallasa District, Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency, South Sulawesi Province. The location of the sugar palm administrators is in two villages, namely, Manjalling and Mariololo. The research method used is a qualitative research method that uses inventory, observation and interview techniques. The results obtained are that for now the people of Lanne do not comply with the capacity of sustainable cargo. The presence of sugar palm is now relatively minor. Abstract

Shrimp skin contains chitin that is the second largest biopolymer after cellulose. The chitin can be isolated to produce chitosan. Chitosan is a natural adhesive that can be applied in producing particleboards to substitute formaldehyde-based adhesives. The purpose of this study was to analyze the hot-pressing condition in term of temperature and pressing time on the physical and mechanical properties of the particleboards produced by using chitosan as adhesives. The particleboards were made with the size of 25x25x0.7 cm and target density of 0.75 g/cm3. The particleboards were produced using different temperatures (160ºC, 180ºC, and 200ºC) and pressing times (9, 12, and 15 minutes. The results showed that the chitosan produced met the standards, and temperature and compression time had a significant interaction effect on the thickness swelling and modulus of elasticity. The optimum combination of temperature and pressing time is 180ºC and 12 minutes, respectively. The produced boards have the characteristics of moisture content 12.2%, density 0.81, water absorption 84.47%, thickness swelling 19.73%, modulus of rupture 143.36 kg/cm2, modulus of elasticity 23,367.79 kg/cm2, and internal bonding 9.03 kg/cm2.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to compared the biological aspect of silkworm seeds with two resources of seeds in South Sulawesi are Perum Perhutani (P1) and China hybrid (P2). The result of this research can be information for user of the sericulture. The observation will be done the hatchability of eggs, resistance of larva, and the characteristic of the larval. The observation of the cocoon quality such as whole fresh cocoon weight, the cocoon without pupa weight, the presentation of shell cocoon, the presentation of abnormal cocoon, and the characteristic of the cocoon. The data was analyzed with using proportion different test and t-student test. The result of this research was showed that hatchability of kind eggs as not significant. The resistance of larva as the higher from P2 and presentation of abnormal cocoon was lower. So the cocoon without pupa was not significant with the seeds from P1, but the cocoon weight and size of cocoon are bigger than from P2. Both larva motif and cocoon characteristic from P1 and from China hybrid is significant, but larva stadia from P2 was shorter than from P1. Abstract

The purposes of this research are to know the influence of woods specific gravity and nail diameter to reference design value in double shear timber connections with steel side plates nail on four species of Indonesian commercial wood according to various approximation analysis. Analysis is done to four values and it is compared with other research that has been done. This research result from testing which have done by Ziannita (2009) referred as approach of A; result of research of Sadiyo and Sriyanto (2009) and Mansur (2009) referred as approach of B; values referring at literature referred as approach of C and compressive-joint total load divided by nail amount and factor of safety referred as approach of D (Sadiyo and Sriyanto, 2009 and Mansur, 2009). Joint done by using four species of Indonesian commercial wood which is meranti merah (Shorea leprosula), mabang (Shorea pachyphylla), kempas (Koompassia malaccensis) and bangkirai (Shorea laevifolia). Nails that applied in this research are nail with diameter of 4.1 mm length of 10 cm, nail with diameter of 5.2 mm length of 12.5 cm and nail with diameter of 5.5 mm length of 15 cm. The calculation of this research is done according to National Design Specification for Wood Construction-2005. Analysis results indicate that wood specific gravity influence the strength of connection, excelsior wood specific gravity will produce high strength of connection also. This can be influenced by mechanical properties from wood such as maximum crushing strength. Bangkirai have higher specific gravity than three others wood but result approach of D shows that the connections assess reference design value which is lower compared with two other woods (kempas and mabang wood). Then, the bigger on nail diameter brings bigger strength of connection also, but this thing depends on the conditions from nail and quality of nail materials. Abstract

Rayap adalah organisme yang telah banyak ditemukan di daerah pemukiman, menjadikan komponen kayu dalam bangunan rumah sebagai sumber makanan dan tempat tinggal dengan kondisi lingkungan yang sesuai. Sifatnya yang merusak menjadikan rayap sebagai salah satu organisme yang menyebabkan kerusakan pada bangunan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman jenis rayap pada tiap kelas umur bangunan rumah yang berada pada wilayah perumahan. Tahapan penelitian ini meliputi: (1) Penentuan lokasi penelitian menggunakan metode purposive sampling; (2) Pengambilan, koleksi, dan pengawetan sampel menggunakan cara Finding Colony dan Casual Collection; (3) Pengamatan rayap dengan mengidentifikasi ciri morfologi; dan (4) Analisis data menggunakan indeks Shannon-Wiener (H’) untuk menghitung keragaman jenis rayap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keragaman jenis rayap pada Perumahan Bumi Tamalanrea Permai terdiri atas 3 jenis, yaitu Microcerotermes serrula, Coptotermes sp., dan Schedorhinotermes sp. Tingkat keragaman jenis rayap pada tiap kelas umur bangunan tergolong rendah dimana keragaman jenis rayap pada kelas umur bangunan <8 tahun bernilai 0, umur bangunan 8-16 tahun bernilai 0,39 dan >16 tahun bernilai 0,43. Pada keseluruhan titik lokasi, jenis rayap yang paling sering ditemukan adalah Microcerotermes serrula.

Abstract

The purpose of this research to compared the characteristic and productivity of three silkworm seeds. The result of this research can be information for user of the sericulture. Three seeds examination from Perum Perhutani Soppeng ( P1), BS09 ( P2) and C103 ( P3) from Perum Perhutani Candiroto (Central Java).The observation will be done the hatchability of eggs, resistance of larval, and the characteristic of the larval. Result of research shows that stadium of P2 and P3 silkworm is shorter (21 days) than P1 (23 days). Larval characteristic; colored and larval pattern are equal relative except longer caterpillar P1 length from P2 and P3. Cocoon characteristic; colored, wrinkle and its hardness relative is of equal except size measure and form the cocoon, ellipse globular bigger P1 than P2 and P3 are elliptical like peanut. The result of this research was showed that examination three seeds hybrid of productivity observation (hatchability of eggs and resistance of mature larval,) P1 better than P2 and P3. Abstract

The growth responds of Pleurotus comunicipae to the use of cold water-soaked teakwood sawdust as a growth medium was investigated. Teakwood sawdust was soaked in cold water during the time periods of 1, 3, 5 and 7 days) with ten replications. Unsoaked teakwood sawdust was also prepared and used as a control. Measurement variabels consisted of time required for a completely covering mycelial growth, number of fruitbody, and fungal mass (green and dry weight). Results showed that P. comunicipae placed on soaked teakwood sawdust medium had a better growth than control (without soaking) medium. The medium with increased soaking period produced a good growth ability of P.comunicipae. At teakwood sawdust soaked for 7 days, the average of mycelial growth to cover teakwood sawdust medium, number of fruiting bodies, green weight and dry weight at the first harvesting were 52.6 days, 8.6 units, 100.5 grams and 13.4 grams, respectively. Abstract

A research was conducted to evaluate the quality of white refined sugar produced from palm tree (Arenga pinnata) using direct and indirect cooking processes. Visual methods were applied to determine color, shape and texture of produced sugar. The sucrose, ash, and other sugar contents as well as dry weight of produced refined sugar were also analyzed. Results showed that the production process using direct cooking resulted in small granulated, dry, compacted and milky white refined sugar, while that using indirect cooking (four hours storage) produced clay granulated, less compacted, dust shape and browning refined sugar. The sucrose, ash, and other sugar contents found in direct cooking process were 10.27%, 0.016%. and 2.68%, respectively, while those found in indirect cooking process were 11.11%, 0.018%, and 2.78%, respectively.
