Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of strengthening the competitiveness of coffee MSMEs through the integration of education and marketing functions in expo activities, which have been studied separately. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of the MSME Expo as an educational and marketing medium in increasing the competitiveness of coffee MSMEs based on the sharia economy in Sumberwringin District, Bondowoso Regency. The research employs a phenomenological qualitative approach, involving 12 informants through purposive sampling techniques. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, findings in the field, and documentation, then analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing by triangulating sources. The results of the study show that expos play a significant role in increasing the technical knowledge, skills, and confidence of MSME actors through experiential learning. In addition, the expo also increases the number of customers, sales turnover, and expands the business network. The implication of this study confirms that the expo not only functions as a means of promotion, but also as a space for learning and business transformation that is sustainable and in line with Sharia economic principles, such as benefit and justice.

Abstract

This study examines strategies for optimizing the utilization of productive zakat in the economic empowerment of mustahik at BAZNAS Bondowoso Regency. The study uses a qualitative case study approach conducted through semi-structured interviews, documentation, and field findings. The informants consisted of BAZNAS administrators, zakat management officers, program companions, administrative staff, and mustahik who received productive business assistance. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was strengthened through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings show that productive zakat optimization is implemented through five main strategies: administrative and field-based mustahik selection, provision of business tools according to business needs, business mentoring, program monitoring, and strengthening zakat fundraising. Productive zakat contributes to increasing mustahik income, creating independent business opportunities, reducing dependence on informal work, and strengthening local economic activities. However, the program still faces limitations in zakat funds, human resources, and structured monitoring systems. The study contributes to Islamic economic literature by showing that productive zakat can function as a sustainable empowerment instrument when managed through integrated selection, assistance, supervision, and institutional capacity building based on maqasid al-sharia principles.

Abstract

This article critically reassesses counter-radicalization practices in Indonesia, which have long been dominated by security-oriented and state-centric approaches emphasizing surveillance, law enforcement, and ideological control. Drawing on the theoretical perspectives of positive peace, the “local turn” in peacebuilding, and post-liberal peace, this study examines how former extremists and local communities simultaneously complement and challenge formal state frameworks in preventing violent extremism. The article focuses on the Yayasan Lingkar Perdamaian (YLP) in East Java, a community-based organization established by former militant networks that has become an important actor in grassroots peacebuilding and social reintegration. The study employs a qualitative case study approach based on fieldwork conducted in 2024, including in-depth interviews, limited participant observation, and document analysis. To assess the effectiveness of community-based counter-radicalization, this article introduces a hybrid evaluation matrix consisting of four interconnected dimensions: material, relational, cognitive-normative, and institutional transformation. The findings demonstrate that economic empowerment through micro-enterprises and cooperatives helps reduce socio-economic vulnerability among former extremists and their families. In addition, processes of social recognition and community engagement gradually erode stigma and rebuild trust. Religious literacy grounded in experiential legitimacy reframes the meaning of jihad from violent struggle into ethics of caregiving, responsibility, and social contribution. The study argues that YLP functions as a hybrid intermediary bridging state capacity and community legitimacy, although it remains vulnerable to co-optation, funding dependence, and institutional fragility. The article concludes by recommending policy co-production, multi-year blended financing, mentor certification, and stronger data governance as foundations for sustainable and locally grounded peacebuilding in the Global South.

Abstract

This study examines the juridical analysis of business actors’ liability in consumer protection in Indonesia, focusing on legal regulation, forms of liability, and dispute resolution mechanisms available to consumers. The objective of this research is to analyze the legal framework governing business actors’ responsibilities and to assess its role in ensuring legal protection for consumers. This study employs normative legal research using a statutory and conceptual approach, supported by library-based data derived from legislation, legal doctrines, and relevant scholarly works. The analysis is conducted through a descriptive-analytical method to examine the relationship between legal norms and the implementation of business liability in consumer protection. The findings show that Law Number 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection provides a comprehensive legal basis regarding the obligations of business actors, compensation for consumer losses, and mechanisms for dispute settlement through non-litigation and litigation channels. Business liability is manifested through compensation, product replacement, and other legal remedies aimed at restoring consumer rights. The study also finds that challenges remain in the implementation of liability principles, particularly regarding compliance, legal awareness, and law enforcement effectiveness. Strengthening the implementation of business actors’ liability is essential to promote justice, legal certainty, and balanced legal relations between businesses and consumers.

Abstract

Carbon trading has become a market-based mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while promoting environmental sustainability. From an Islamic perspective, this mechanism can be aligned with sharia principles such as justice, barakah, and environmental stewardship. This study aims to analyze the valuation of coastal ecosystems as economic assets within the carbon market from the perspective of Sharia Economic Law. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method to examine the potential and challenges of integrating Sharia principles into carbon trading practices in Indonesia. The results demonstrate that coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, seagrass beds, and coastal wetlands, possess a significant carbon absorption capacity and substantial economic value. Their utilization in carbon markets is permissible in Islam, provided that transactions are conducted transparently and are free from riba, gharar, and maysir. Additionally, fairness in the distribution of benefits to coastal communities must be ensured. Carbon market governance should prioritize public welfare, environmental protection, and social justice. Therefore, sharia-based regulatory frameworks are necessary to ensure that carbon trading not only generates economic benefits but also supports sustainability and community well-being.

Abstract

This study examines the role of khasyā as a mediating mechanism linking Islamic ethical values to the intention to support equitable and sustainable water governance in rural Muslim communities. Grounded in Islamic Environmental Ethics Theory and Islamic Leadership Theory, the study investigates the relationships among simplicity, environmental awareness, justice-oriented leadership, khasyā, and the Drive for Water Governance. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 151 rural Muslim residents in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that khasyā has a strong positive effect on the Drive for Water Governance (β = 0.812, p < 0.001). Environmental awareness (β = 0.342, p < 0.001) and justice-oriented leadership (β = 0.537, p < 0.001) significantly strengthen khasyā, with justice-oriented leadership demonstrating the greater contribution. Simplicity significantly influences environmental awareness (β = 0.706, p < 0.001) and justice-oriented leadership (β = 0.707, p < 0.001), but its effect on khasyā is fully mediated through these two constructs. Indirect effect analysis further confirms that khasyā significantly mediates the relationships between environmental awareness and water governance (β = 0.277, p < 0.001) as well as justice-oriented leadership and water governance (β = 0.436, p < 0.001). These findings demonstrate that spiritual consciousness serves as a critical pathway through which Islamic ethical values are translated into governance-related behavioral intentions, highlighting the importance of integrating spiritual, ethical, and leadership dimensions into sustainable water governance frameworks
