Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the values of character education contained in the lullaby of Siak Malay community in Riau. The research problem is what character education values contained in the lullaby in the Siak Malay community. To find the values of character education contained in the lullaby, the qualitative descriptive method is used, which is a method that exposes writing based on the content of the lullaby. The result of the study shows that the lullaby contains the value of faith and piety, intelligence, morality and character. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the lullaby can be used as a tool to implement the value of character education for children.

Abstract

The problem which is discussed in this study is how does the form of the wisdom of Dayak Deah society tradition in South Kalimantan. This study aims to reveal the form of the wisdom of Dayak Deah society tradition in South Kalimantan. Dayak Deah society in South Kalimantan still preserves their custom in the form of wisdom tradition. Those tradition are giving birth tradition, marriage tradition, utterance fine tradition, and death ceremony tradition. Those heritage traditions are well kept to make them still exist. This study uses descriptive qualitative method to get information about the form of the wisdom of Dayak Deah society tradition in South Kalimantan deeply. The result shows the description about the form of the wisdom of Dayak Deah society tradition in South Kalimantan.

Abstract

Millenial era has a major influence on people's lives. Science and technology is growing so rapidly, so that everyone tries to fit themselves with the existed changes and advances including the adoption of language. Regarding language adoption, the problem that arises now is that speakers of regional languages turn to use other languages when returning to their home areas. Therefore, this study highlights the challenges and expectations of Galik in the millennial era. The method used is the descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data is collected by doing observation and interview. The collected data is then classified and analyzed according to the problem raised. The results of the study show that the challenges faced by speakers of Galik in these eras, namely the change of attitude of the educated speakers toward the language when returning to their hometowns. The language attitude of the community and Galik scholars in influenced by the environment and outside knowledge. The language used by the educated speakers has undergone a shift when communicating with people in their environment. They tend to use languages that considered more modern and prestigious in their environment, namely Indonesian, Malay, Javanese, Ribun, and English.

Abstract

This research has purpose to reveal the characteristic of author’s figure of speech in Padusi novel by Ka’bati. The object of this research is to discover whether the figure of speech which used by the author shows his ideas and thought regarding the live of Indonesian labor in foreign country. Therefore, the approach used is stylistic. Stylistic, in this matter, merely sees the linguistic aspect and does not graze the content. The linguistic aspect is exposed using a concept set by Gorys Keraf. Method used in the research is qualitative. Out of this research can be concluded that there are several figure of speech used by the author. Those figures of speech are based on the structure of the sentences and either the sentences are direct or not. Figures of speech based on the structure of sentences are majority found as climax figure of speech. Based on the meaning directness, it divided into two, which is rhetorical and allegory. In rhetorical, the one most found is euphemism, paradox and tautology. In allegory, the ones found the most are metaphor, simile, and irony. Each figure of speech has its own different function. Those function exposed the portrait of Indonesian labor abroad.

Abstract

This study is entitled Role of Dara Muning Folklore in the Culture System Construction. This study seeks the role of West Kalimantan folklore, especially Dara Muning in the establishment of a cultural system. The theoretical framework used as the basis for this study is an understanding of the theory of literary anthropology. Anthropological theory in the field of literature is basically a theory that focuses on the relationship between literary work and the society that creates or supports the literary work. So that literary works have a cultural dimension of benefits. This research is a qualitative research in a literary perspective. Qualitative research is research that intends to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the subject of research such as behavior, perceptions, motivations, actions and others holistically and by way of descriptions in the form of words and language in a specific context that is experienced and by utilizing various natural methods. Thus, a qualitative approach basically provides space for researchers to describe and interpret the meaning of existing data and facts contextually. The results of the study show the role of folklore in the strengthening of existing cultural systems. Especially the West Kalimatantan Dayak culture.

Abstract

Inbreeding is a prohibited marriage because it violates religious and customary norms. This study aims to describe the factors causing the occurrence of inbreeding and the consequences of inbreeding in Kaba Si Buyuang Karuik. This study uses the method of listening and note-taking technique in collecting data, then the data are analyzed through a sociological approach with reflection theory and the content analysis methods. Based on the results of the study, there are five factors causing the incest, namely poverty, sadness, crime, love, and ignorance. The results also show that inbreeding has caused inevitable shame, unbearable sadness, and inevitable divorce.

Abstract

As the uniqueness of each language, the expression of anger is also something unique and peculiar which is expressed differently depending on the culture of each community, including the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat. In connection with this peculiarity, since childhood or nowadays the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat do not only reflect dislike, disapproval of things and differences of opinion or understanding through anger, but more than that the expressions of anger also shows caring and closeness in the closest environment such as family and daily interactions. There are various expressions of anger in the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat including nyumpah. Nyumpah is the focus and aim of the research to be described qualitatively. The research sample was 100 respondents selected randomly from the total population of the society of Pontianak Malay Kalimantan Barat. This study applied descriptive statistics. The data collected and disseminated through questionnaires and analyzed through tabulation of statistical product and service solution (SPSS) based on the Likert scale which are: strongly disagree (1), disagree (2), doubtful (3), agree (4), and strongly agree (5). Based on the data, it could be concluded that society of Pontianak Malay not expressing their anger through nyumpah in the closest social environment and family (66% of respondents not agree and even strongly not agree).

Abstract

The research on the farming vocabulary of the Paser ethnic is important as a form of preservation and inventory of the vocabulary. This study aims to describe the dictions and meaning of the farming vocabulary of the Paser ethnic in the Long Ikis District. This study uses lexical semantic studies to analyze the research data. The data were collected from informants through note-taking techniques and interviews with voice recorder tools. Analysis of research data using descriptive analysis techniques includes the analysis of linguistic (semantic) data. The data analysis technique in this study used the descriptive analysis, namely by analyzing linguistic (semantic) data. The data analysis model used is an interactive model analysis consisting of three components of analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the research and discussion, there were 35 farming vocabularies of the Paser ethnic which consisted of five classifications, namely (a) pre-farming process totaling 9 vocabulary, (b) tools to open the fields consist of 4 vocabularies, (c) the process of planting and caring consists of 4 vocabularies, (d) the process of harvesting and post-harvestingconsist of 9 vocabularies, and (e) tools for harvesting and post-harvestingconsist of 9 vocabularies. The analysis of the concept of semantic meaning is also associated with the cultural meaning of the local community because it can clarify the meaning of the farming vocabularies.

Abstract

Culinary business is increasingly in demand by most culinary connoisseurs. One way for culinary entrepreneurs so that their culinary business is better known is by giving a unique name so that culinary connoisseurs are curious to visit it. Giving a name is an effort to find out the cultural value of the community owner. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of self-identity in the names of restaurants in Pontianak. The theory used uses qualitative methods. The supporting techniques are (1) determining the location of the study, (2) determining the informant technique using purposive sampling techniques developed using snowball sampling techniques. (3) data collection techniques that include observation, interviews, document studies or literature studies, (4) data validation, (5) data analysis, and finally (6) writing of research results. The results of this study are that there is a form of self-identity in many ethnic groups in Indonesia including Padang, Java, Malay, Palembang and from foreign countries such as Arabic, English, Thai, Italian, and Japanese.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the cultural values contained in the folklore of Hikayat Datuk Tuan Budian, and Sultan Domas Pemimpin yang Sakti dan Baik hati. The method used in this research is descriptive and data in forms of words which are quotations. The source of folklore is a book entitled Hikayat Datuk Tuan Budian, and Sultan Domas Pemimpin yang Sakti dan Baik hati published by Kantor Bahasa Lampung in 2017. Results of this study is there are cultural values in the two books of folklore. Cultural values which can include faith, pray to God, diligent prayer, thanking God and believe in fortune all came from God cooperate, respect, responsible, altruism general, helper and affection, helping each other, living in harmony, exemplary, helpless, generous, and in love of peace, patience, gratitude, independence, hard worker, exemplary, wise, love of the environment, courage, vigilance, belief in religious teachings, and utilizing nature as well as possible.
