Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs). Therefore, an immediate priority is to monitor rates of mental health issues to understand related factors and inform interventions. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychological and mental health impact of COVID-19 and some related factors among HCWs at the grassroots level in Vietnam. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 675 HCWs working at health facilities through questionnaires. The finding showed the rate of HCWs who were psychologically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic was 37.2%, of which 64.1% of HCWs were afraid to tell their families about the risk of exposure to COVID-19 at work. The 31.0% of HCWs had difficulty sleeping deeply/insomnia due to the COVID-19 epidemic. No statistically significant differences were found in the psychological impact of COVID-19 between HCW groups by age, gender, seniority, and professional qualifications. Some groups of HCWs were found to have poor psychological health. Our research suggests that during the COVID-19 pandemic, HCWs working in healthcare facilities experienced an increased psychological burden; psychological interventions for those at high risk and with common mental disorders should be included to reduce this burden and protect HCWs' mental health.

Abstract

Stunting is still an unresolved global health problem caused by inadequate nutritional intake, significantly affecting a person’s future development. Rebon-shrimp is high protein and inexpensive local food, but still underutilized. This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effect of supplementary feeding from Rebon-shrimp on serum albumin levels in stunting children aged 24-60 months. The intervention group (n=44) received rebon shrimp-based supplementary food for 90 days, while the control group (n=44) received a placebo. Measurement of serum albumin was carried out by the ELISA method using blood samples. The results showed a statistical difference (p<0.001) in serum albumin levels in the intervention group, while the control group did not differ statistically (p=0.363). The intervention group experienced an increase in albumin levels of 15.55 g/L, while the control group tended to experience a decrease in serum albumin levels of -1.92 g/L. There was no significant difference in serum albumin levels before the intervention in the two groups (p=0.180). Still, after the administration of rebon products, there was a significant difference in serum albumin levels between the two groups (p<0.001). Supplementary food made from rebon shrimp was beneficial for increasing the serum albumin level of stunting children.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought Asian Americans sharply into focus, revealing both the strengths and vulnerabilities within this community. Despite a myriad of studies on their experiences and health disparities during the outbreak, gaps persist in our understanding of their health literacy, beliefs, and healthcare behaviors. Leveraging the snowball sampling method, our study engaged 20 diverse Asian Americans, delving into facets ranging from English proficiency and health literacy to cultural health beliefs and preventive behaviors. Notably, participants exhibited high English proficiency and health literacy. Their health choices, shaped by their Asian heritage, showcased a proactive approach to combating COVID-19. Most did not defer or sidestep healthcare, underlining their commitment to well-being. These insights underscore the resilience and adaptability of the Asian American community. By decoding their health behaviors and beliefs, our study aims to refine public health strategies, ensuring they resonate not just with Asian Americans but potentially with other ethnic cohorts amidst global health crises.

Abstract

Food waste is food appropriate for human consumption but discarded in the retail or consumption process. In 2022, food waste accounts for 40.9% of Indonesia’s waste composition. Therefore, food waste community education is critical for reducing food waste. Community education can reach the young generation through workshops and social media. This research aims to evaluate various workshops and social media content in educating teenagers about food waste through community. The PRISMA guidelines become the foundation as a contribution to Sustainable Development Goals. We utilized databases such as EBSCO Host, SAGE, Taylor & Francis, and Wiley Online Library to search for relevant studies. This study’s approach is normative research including secondary data, comprehensive literature review such as workshops, social media, and food waste education journals in Indonesia. This systematic review examines food waste education content of workshops and social media in Indonesia also further content recommendations. This systematic review collected 52 papers, including journals and proceedings. The community education content in Indonesia focuses on recycling with 28.57%. Seminars/online campaigns dominate the education form with sustainable development goals (SDGs) achieved: climate action and zero hunger. This systematic review showed that it is essential to add actions toward food waste in the form of actual activities.

Abstract

Nowadays, one of the most time-consuming and complex study subjects is predicting working professionals' stress levels. It is thus crucial to estimate active professionals' stress levels to aid their professional development. Several machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods have been created in earlier articles for this goal. But they also have drawbacks, such as increased design complexity, a high rate of misclassification, a high incidence of mistakes, and reduced efficiency. Considering these issues, the objective of this study is to make a prognosis about the stress levels experienced by working professionals by using a cutting-edge deep learning model known as the convolutional neural networks (CNN). In this paper, we offer a model that combines CNN-based classification with dataset preprocessing, feature extraction, and optimum feature selection using principal component analysis (PCA). When the raw data is preprocessed, duplicate characteristics are eliminated, and missing values are filled.

Abstract

In West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, approximately 13.01% of individuals aged 15 years or older are affected by mental and emotional disorders, ranking it as the third highest among the 34 provinces. Excessive smartphone use has emerged as a potential influencer of mental health, associated with social networking addiction, shyness, and low self-esteem. This study aimed to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction and mental health issues in adolescents using a cross-sectional design. The sample included 283 randomly selected students aged 15-17 years. Smartphone addiction was measured using the smartphone addiction scale-short version (SAS-SV), and mental health was assessed using the strength and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ). The study revealed a significant association (p<0.001) between smartphone addiction and mental health problems among adolescents, with 72.1% of respondents experiencing smartphone addiction and 26.9% classified as having abnormal mental health. These findings emphasize the need for increased awareness regarding the negative impact of excessive smartphone use on adolescent mental health. Schools should play a vital role in addressing this issue through the provision of guidance and counseling services. Future research should investigate causal relationships using longitudinal designs and consider diverse populations to enhance the generalizability of the results.

Abstract

Ensuring proper care for older adults in their homes is becoming increasingly important as the older adult population grows. This paper investigates caregivers' perspectives regarding their care for older adults and their acceptance of e-homecare technology. This is a qualitative study with data collection through interviews with five caregivers representing a range of qualifications. A thematic analysis was conducted to gain insights into their experiences and preferences. The study reveals three primary findings that contribute to enhancing caregiving for older adults: i) the significance of meeting the basic needs of homecare technology, such as medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and nutrition management; ii) the caregivers' attitudes towards the acceptance and integration of e-homecare technology into their practices; and iii) the challenges faced in implementing and utilizing e-homecare technology effectively. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the fundamental requirements of e-homecare and overcoming the obstacles associated with incorporating technology, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to older adults in their homes.

Abstract

Two-dose primary vaccine administration was the best strategy to reduce the prevalence and severity of COVID-19. Improved immunity and antibody response to the new variant virus by administering a booster vaccine is needed. Health workers are the main priority for administering the mRNA-1273 (Moderna) booster vaccination in Indonesia. This vaccine has high effectiveness, and safety, however, data and evaluation of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) is required. This study aimed to determine the AEFIs of mRNA-1273 booster vaccination in clinical clerkship students as an early adult age group. The research design was a repeated cross-sectional study using purposive sampling technique. There were 214 subjects who met the requirements. Subject filled out an online questionnaire containing evaluation of AEFIs. The most local AEFIs symptoms were pain at the injection site (79.0%), while the common systemic symptoms were headache, drowsiness, weakness, and fever (37.4%; 26.2%; 9.8%; 9.3%). Most AEFIs were felt within 30 minutes to three days. No respondents required hospitalization, experienced anaphylactic shock, became disabled, or died. The AEFIs did not have a significant relationship with gender, history of allergies, co-morbidities, or history of COVID-19. This information is used as a preventive or educational effort to support implementation vaccine in Indonesia.
