Abstract

Perspektif akan penuaan dan keadaan tua yang negatif akan memudar bila sejak muda ditanamkan pandangan positif. Penelitian ini bertujuan membandingkan pengetahuan dan mencari korelasi antara pengetahuan dan perspektif mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran (FK) dan Teknobiologi (FTb) mengenai penuaan dan keadaan tua. Penelitian ini merupakan studi analitik komparatif dan korelatif dengan metode potong lintang. Penelitian dilakukan di FTb dan FK Unika Atma Jaya periode Januari?Mei 2013. Pengetahuan mengenai penuaan dan keadaan tua diukur dengan Facts about Aging Quiz 1 (FAQ 1). Perspektif terhadap penuaan dan kondisi tua diukur dengan Anxiety about Aging  Scale (AAS) dan Aging Semantic Differential (ASD). Sampel sebanyak masing-masing 45 mahasiswa FK dan FTb. Data FAQ 1 memperlihatkan pengetahuan mahasiswa FK dan FTb mengenai penuaan dan keadaan tua kurang baik serta tidak ada perbedaan bermakna (p=0,199). Data AAS memperlihatkan kecenderungan responden tidak takut terhadap lansia, tidak khawatir dengan keadaan fisiologisnya, kurang memperhatikan penampilan fisik, dan tidak takut kehilangan. Data ASD menunjukkan kecenderungan responden merasa lansia akan lebih berguna, tidak bergantung pada orang lain, dan mampu menerima diri sendiri. Uji korelasi FAQ 1 dengan AAS dan ASD tidak menunjukkan hubungan sehingga dapat disimpulkan tidak ada hubungan pengetahuan dengan perspektif terhadap penuaan dan keadaan tua.Kata kunci: Keadaan tua, mahasiswa, penuaan Students? Knowledge and Perspectives on Aged and AgingAbstractThe negative perspectives on aged and aging will be diminished if positive perspectives on aged condition and aging have been introduced in young age. This study aimed to compare and test the relationship between knowledge and perspective toward aged condition and aging among medical and biotechnology students. This study was a comparative analytical and correlative study with a cross-sectional method in the period of January to May 2013 conducted at the School of Biotechnology and the School of Medicine Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Knowledge towards aged condition and aging was measured using the Facts about Aging Quiz 1 (FAQ 1). Perspective towards aged condition and aging was measured using the Anxiety about Aging Scale (AAS) and the Aging Semantic Differential (ASD). There were 45 students from each school.. Knowledge about aged condition and aging of the medical and biotechnology students was quite low. There were no significant differences (p=0.199) between the two groups. The AAS data showed that respondents did not have any fear of old people.They were also not really concern about physiological and physical appearances and were not afraid of lost. The ASD data showed that they tended to have positive views: the elderly people are useful, independent, and able to accept their condition. The correlation tests between FAQ 1-AAS and FAQ 1-ASD showed no correlation. In conclusion, there is no relationship between knowledge and perspective towards aged condition and aging.Key words: Aged, aging, students DOI: 10.15395/mkb.v46n4.339

Abstract

Populasi lanjut usia (lansia) di negara maju maupun negara berkembang akan meningkat dan menimbulkan masalah kesehatan. Banyaknya masalah kesehatan yang terjadi selama proses penuaan memerlukan sikap dan perhatian khusus terhadap lansia. Calon profesional yang terkait dengan bidang kesehatan perlu dipersiapkan untuk menyikapi dan memberi perhatian kepada lansia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan perbandingan pengetahuan dan sikap mahasiswa terhadap lansia antara mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran (FK) dan mahasiswa Fakultas Psikologi (FP) Unika Atma Jaya dari tanggal 1 Juli 2016 sampai 31 Desember 2016. Penelitian ini melibatkan 86 mahasiswa FK dan FP tingkat pertama, kedua, dan ketiga Unika Atma Jaya. Pengetahuan dan sikap mahasiswa terhadap lansia pada mahasiswa kedokteran dan psikologi diukur dengan alat ukur Pengetahuan dan Sikap Mahasiswa terhadap Lansia dan dibanding dengan menggunakan uji-t tidak berpasangan. Mahasiswa FK dan FP Unika Atma Jaya memiliki pengetahuan dan sikap yang tinggi terhadap lansia. Skor mahasiswa psikologi rata-rata lebih tinggi (33,47) dibanding dengan mahasiswa kedokteran (33,35), meskipun perbedaan ini tidak signifikan. Simpulan, tidak terdapat perbedaan pengetahuan dan sikap mahasiswa terhadap lansia antara mahasiswa kedokteran dan mahasiswa psikologi. Health concerns related to aging create a growing need for health workers to provide care to elder people. Therefore, health care workers must be prepared to address and care for elderly. The aim of this study was to compare medical and psychology students’ knowledge and attitude towards elderly in Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. This study was conducted from 1 July 2016 to 31 December 2016. A total of 86 of the first, second, and third year students completed a questionnaire referred to as Students’ Knowledge and Attitude toward Elderly Questionnaire (SKAEQ). The medical and psychology students’ knowledge and attitude was  compared using independent t-test. The results showed that medical and psychology students had high knowledge and attitude towards elderly. Although the mean score of the psychology students (33.47) was higher than the medical students’ (33.35), the difference was not significantly different. In conclusion, there is no difference in the knowledge and attitude towards elderly between medical and psychology students. Abstract

The Bloom’s taxonomy revision mainly consisted of curriculum,instructional design, and assessment. Educational development, socioculturalchanges, researches in neurosciences and educationalpsychology are the major influences those supported the revision.Civitas academia may find that the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy is veryhelpful in its application. The users would find technical and moreapplied instructions, including some examples. This article waswritten to describe briefly of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy as astepping point in considering its further application.

Abstract

Despite rise of self-perception towards eating balanced meals, obesity incidence remains high all over the world, reaching more than half billion people. It is worrisome since it leads to sedentary lifestyle that contributes to non-communicable diseases. Therefore, having adequate knowledge about healthy lifestyle, diet and eating habits from early age is crucial. Leveraging on the high usage of social media, educational intervention seems promising. In this study, we assess the impact of using social media campaigns through Instagram to raise knowledge and encourage behavioral changes. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were performed. Freshmen (n=144) were selected as respondents and divided to two groups through random sampling. Those in intervention group received various information via Instagram for four months. All respondents had to fill self-administered knowledge questionnaires and food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) each month as evaluation. To evaluate the on-going campaign even more, we also collected qualitative data by interviewing respondents (n=14). Data were analysed using constant comparative method (CCM). By the end of campaign period, there was only positive increasing trend in knowledge. Instagram was perceived as a suitable campaign media despite needing improvements. Overall, Instagram educational intervention had only successfully raised awareness and knowledge, not students’ eating habits.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to describe the application of collaborative learning to the teaching of undergraduate introduction to organic chemistry for the first semester of medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Atma Jaya Catholic University. It would be presented an overview of jigsaw and fish bowling methods, as collaborative approach, those can be done in a large class (more than 50 students). Sources for teaching were created on context-based material, which has been developed to teach the aspects of bonding in carbon catenation, functional groups, polymerization and simple alkaloids.

Abstract

Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya (UAJ) telah mengimplementasikan e-learning. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengumpulkan data terkait penggunaan e-learning, sikap pengguna, dan harapan pengguna terhadap e-learning di UAJ. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dan eksploratif. Kuesioner berisi pertanyaan tertutup dan terbuka didesain untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian. Kuesioner disebarkan kepada mahasiswa dan dosen. Klarifikasi dan konfirmasi Dilakukan melalui focus group discussions (FGD) yang beranggotakan mahasiswa dan dosen.Hasil penelitian menemukan 75% mahasiswa menjawab bahwa mereka menggunakan e-learning, sementara hanya 71% (N=167) mengetahui Moodle™ sebagai salah satu e-learning. Sebanyak 32% mahasiswa berpendapat tak satu pun mata ajarnya dalam satu semester menggunakan Moodle™, 32% menyatakan hanya ada satu mata ajar menggunakan Moodle™, dan 34% mengatakan ada dua mata ajar yang menggunakan Moodle™. Hasil ini tidak terlalu mengejutkan karena ada 62% dosen (N=50) yang mengakui menggunakan e-learning.Meskipun demikian, hanya ada 26%dosen yangmenggunakan Moodle™. Mahasiswa dan dosen setuju e-learning penting dan mereka menyatakan dalam tiga tahun UAJ perlu mengoptimalkan e-learning danmendeklarasikan sebagai kampus e learning.Untuk mencapainya, mereka menyarankan UAJ melakukan peningkatan pelatihan, akses, dan kebijakan terkait e-learning. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan bukti pendukung perlunya memajukan e-learning dan menghimpun rekomendasi bagi pemangku jabatan di UAJ.

Abstract

Interactive online learning requires students’ cooperation. Online cooperative learning focuses on learning activities on group cohesiveness to achieve the highest cognitive level. Students can improve their teamwork skills, problem-solving skills, social skills, self-confidence, academic success, and metacognition levels through online cooperative learning activities. The Online Cooperative Learning Attitude Scales (OCLAS) scale is a tool to measure students’ attitudes towards online cooperative learning. Education in Indonesia uses Indonesian as the language of instruction. Therefore, the adaptation of measurement tools such as OCLAS into the Indonesian language is crucial. This study aimed to adapt OCLAS into Indonesian by translating the original OCLAS into the Indonesian language and determining the instrument’s validity and reliability. The OCLAS has three main components: positive interdependence, individual accountability, and group processing for equal individual contribution. The original version contained 17 statements with responses using a Likert scale of five and seven points. We validated the OCLAS using the item-correlation method. The reliability was measured using the Cronbach’s Alpha method, which is useful for measuring internal consistency. The original OCLAS was translated into the Indonesian Language. A language center in a prominent university performed the verification of forward and backward translation of the Indonesian OCLAS. The Indonesian-OCLA was distributed to 59 students at a private university from the pharmacy and non-pharmacy study programs and 275 high school students. The validation results showed seven invalid items for pharmacy students, five invalid items for non-pharmacy students, and six invalid items for high school students. The Indonesian-OCLAS has Cronbach’s Alpha reliability with a value of 0.711 for pharmacy students, 0.791 for non-pharmaceutical students, and 0.702 for high school students. This study showed that ten out of 17 statements had good validity, and they were reliable. Therefore, we recommended the usage of the Indonesian-OCLAS toward high school and college students.

Abstract

Introduction. Writing centers (WC) as a writing consultation would help students complete their scientific writing and improve their non-technical skills. This study aimed to determine the effect of WC on students' teamwork abilities. Data Collection Methods. This research is a cross-sectional descriptive and explorative study. The quantitative method measured students' teamwork utilizing the Teamwork Skills Questionnaire at three points of collection. The qualitative method collected data from in-depth interviews. Both types of data came from peer-consultants (PC) and users of WC services. Data Analysis. Quantitative data analysis used the repeated measure of one-way ANOVA, and qualitative data analysis used the content analysis. Results and Discussion. We found that the p-value is 0.857 for the PC and 0.044 for the user from the data analysis. Results showed a significant increase in the user's teamwork ability. Although the quantitative results of the PC were not significant, from the qualitative analysis, PCs explained that the WC could train teamwork indirectly through communication skills, adaptation, leadership, and collaboration. Conclusion. The teamwork skills that students have before and after the WC program was categorized as high. WC had a subtle influence on the teamwork ability of the PC and its users. We suggest that the university elaborate the WC as one of the students' services.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menggali penjaminan mutu dalam pengelolaan SDM sebagai hasil praktik baik selama WFH, yang diharapkan berguna bagi pengelolaan SDM di perguruan tinggi (PT). Survei daring dilakukan untuk menggali opini, perspektif, dan praktik dari stakeholder. Hasil menunjukkan 90% responden berasal dari PTS dan 73% berlokasi di Jakarta (N=198). Responden (85%) setuju PT telah mempersiapkan WFH, penetapan kebijakan, virtual workspace, SDM, mekanisme monitoring dan evaluasi. Responden (80%) mengapresiasi persiapan dan pengambilan keputusan WFH. Responden (50%) memenuhi 51-75% tuntutan pekerjaan selama WFH. Responden (52%) menyatakan unitnya mencapai 51-75% target kerja. Responden (87%) mengapresiasi mekanisme monitoring. Apresiasi responden (82%) diberikan pada efektivitas WFH. Responden (88%) setuju WFH sebagai opsi cara kerja mendatang. Responden setuju (38%) 3+2 hari (WFH+WFO) per minggu. Responden setuju (35%) menukar 15-30% biaya transpor dengan WFH. Pertanyaan terbuka menunjukkan agar WFH didukung akses internet dan virtual workspace yang memadai. Penelitian ini menunjukkan praktik teladan sepanjang WFH yang dapat distandarkan menjadi penjaminan mutu pengelolaan SDM, di antaranya standar pengambilan keputusan, mekanisme monev, dan fasilitas daring.AbstractThis research aimed to explore the quality assurance in human resources management as best practices of WFH, that would be beneficial for HR management in higher education institutions (HEI). An online survey was done to seek opinions, perspectives, and meaningful practices among HEI stakeholders. Results show 90% of respondents are from private universities, and 73% are located in Jakarta (N total 198). Respondents (85%) agree there is preparation toward WFH, the policy, virtual workspace, HR, monitoring and evaluation mechanism. Respondents (80%) appreciate the WFH preparation and decision. Respondents (50%) complete 51-75% of the work during WFH. Respondents (52%) state their unit achieved 51-75% of the target during WFH. Respondents (87%) appreciate the monitoring mechanism. Their appreciation (82%) is given to the effectiveness of WFH. Respondents agree (88%) of WFH as an option for the future of working. Respondents agree (38%) of 3+2 days (WFH+WFO) per week. Respondents agree (35%) to exchange their 15-30% of transport fees to WFH. The open-ended questions show WFH should be supported by adequate access to the internet and virtual workspace. This research shows best practices of WFH, which could be standardized as QA toward HR system, including the standards of decision making, monitoring and evaluation, and online facilities.

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) has been implemented widely in most of faculty of medicine in Indonesia. Nevertheless, PBL as a learning method is still debated. This article tried to unravel the debate of PBL implementation in medical schools, as well as recommending important notes in order to find a well-defined PBL and to improve its implementation. PBL should be acknowledged as one of the student centered learning methods. Therefore, this condition would not rule out the possibility of the empirical progress in PBL implementation in faculty of medicine in Indonesia.
