Abstract

Lung cancer, a prominent global malignancy and a significant contributor to cancer-related deaths, was examined in Iraq from 2005 to 2019 using data from the cancer registry. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR), categorized by sex and age at diagnosis, were analyzed to identify trends, utilizing annual percent change (APC) and average annual percent change (AAPC). During the 2005-2019 period, ASIR was 18.339/100,000 for males and 5.861/100,000 for females. Lung cancer ASIR experienced a notable 48.027% increase, starting at 9.426/100,000 in 2005 and reaching 13.953/100,000 in the most recent year. The rates demonstrated significant growth, with AAPC values of +2.857% for both sexes, +2.495% for males, and +4.474% for females. The highest incidences of lung cancer were among the elderly (70+ years) in both sexes, particularly pronounced in females (8.961%) and males (5.601%). In contrast, the lowest rates were found in individuals aged 0 to 49 years, showing negative APC values: -1.359% (males) and -0.843% (females). The study underscores the escalating prevalence of lung cancer in Iraq, particularly impacting older females. Urgent and targeted efforts are necessary to mitigate the rising incidence rates.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students’ driving factors of eating behavior, namely eating-styles and palatable-eating-motives, and to determine clusters based on both. Conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, this cross-sectional study was carried out in response to the intervention program, the nusantara movement to reduce obesity rate (gerakan nusantara tekan angka obesitas (GENTAS)), launched by the Indonesian government to reduce obesity rate. Involving general population, 135 undergraduate students at a university in Bandung, Indonesia (the average age was 20.5 years, 71.9% of them were female) were selected using multi-stage-cluster-sampling. Data was collected through online questionnaires and was analyzed using SPSS 22.00 for Mac. Results indicated that participants’ eating behavior was generally more characterized by uncontrolled-eating-style, and participants’ eating palatable foods was more driven by the motive of reward-enhancement. This study obtained three clusters, including the cluster composed of emotional-eating-style and coping-motives, the cluster involving cognitive-restraint-eating-styles, and the cluster composed of uncontrolled-eating-style and all palatable-eating-motives. Findings about the clusters brought possibilities to develop new approach in eating behavior intervention for GENTAS’ implementation among students, focusing on tailored intervention based on the cluster of the individual participant, and utilizing the available channels at the institution. An online or hybrid intervention was an introduced choice that was relevant during COVID-19 pandemic and non-COVID period.

Abstract

Chia and quinoa seeds are novel sources of bioactive compounds that may improve lipid profile, blood glucose homeostasis, and body weight in diabetic rats. This work aims to study the effect of different percentages of chia and quinoa consumption, alone or in a mixture, compared to Metformin drug on regulating lipid profile, blood glucose level, and weight of male diabetic rats. The consumption of quinoa and chia seeds showed a significant decline in fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting insulin level, Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c), and Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin (HOMA-IR), while the best results were obtained with Metformin and chia seeds. A decrease in mean body weight, triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL-C), and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-C), and an increase in high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) occurred, which was significant when consuming chia and quinoa seeds rather than treatment with metformin. Chia and quinoa seeds could improve blood glucose homeostasis and lipid profile in diabetic rats. These research findings could promote the daily consumption of quinoa and chia as great functional foods that could improve blood glucose homeostasis and lipid profile.

Abstract

Machine learning (ML) improves operations in many industries, including medicine. It affects the prognosis of several disorders, including heart disease. If predicted, it may provide doctors with new insights and allow them to treat each patient individually. If anticipated, it may provide medical practitioners with valuable information. Our team uses machine learning algorithms to study heart disease risk. This research will compare decision trees, AdaBoost, support vector machines, artificial neural networks (ANN), and customized ANN. The study will include this analysis. The given model will leverage the dataset of general information and medical test results. Our model uses particle swarm optimization (PSO) and k-nearest neighbors (KNN). Algorithm for feature selection. The model reduces dimensionality using evolutionary algorithms and neural networks. We compared the numerous assessment criteria to the current models, our model, and earlier models. Because of this, the suggested model's suitability was rated with the highest accuracy.

Abstract

Mental health issues have been essential in formulating global health policies for 30 years. The campus community is inseparable from the problem of mental health disorders, which can affect the work either students, lecturers, or staff. This research aimed to describe mental health conditions among the campus community based on demographic factors as an opportunity to initiate a healthy campus program. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population was an academic community at a private campus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. There are 347 samples taken by accidental sampling. The mental health instrument used the self-reporting questionnaire. There, 60.81% of respondents experienced psychological disorders, and 73.49% of respondents needed to be referred to a mental health professional regarding addiction, psychotic disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). There was a significant relationship between demographic factors consisting of gender, age, type of work, employment status, education level, faculty, and emotional disorders with a p-value of <0.005. Moreover, age, gender, education level, type of work, and employment status related to mental disorders due to addiction, psychosis, and PTSD with a p-value<0.005. It is concluded that a large proportion of responders need a referral to a mental health expert. To promote a healthy campus, university officials should follow up with health promotion initiatives such as partnering with the local health office and public health center for additional treatment and improving policy support.

Abstract

In developing countries, the use of digital media for health information by expectant mothers is a relatively new phenomenon, in contrast to developed countries. This study explores whether emotional support and satisfaction are linked and how they affect the use of social media for healthcare information. A non-experimental survey design was employed in this study. Expectant mothers were surveyed in five hospitals in Ghana's capital from May to August 2022 using a questionnaire. After reviewing and cleaning the data, 580 usable responses were obtained. The collected data were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 structural equation modeling. The findings of the study indicate that expectant mothers' decision to adopt digital media for health information is influenced by emotional support on social media (ESPSM) and satisfaction with social media (SATSM). Furthermore, satisfaction with social media partially mediated the effect between ESPSM and social media health information usage (SMHIU). These findings highlight the importance of emotional support and satisfaction with social media platforms in promoting digital health information usage. In particular, emotional support plays a crucial role for women, especially during pregnancy. These discoveries provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals on how best to assist expectant mothers.

Abstract

Self-efficacy can speed up and improve quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but it will be difficult to achieve if using a bag-valve-mask (BVM) by a single rescue. This study aimed to compare the differences of self-efficacy when performing CPR in the lateral and over-the-head (OTH) positions using a BVM device in a single rescue. A quasi-experimental with a post-test-only group design approach. This study involved 100 respondents divided into two groups, namely 50 respondents in the lateral position and 50 in the OTH position. Respondents' self-efficacy was assessed using the resuscitation self-efficacy scale (RSES). The statistical test used was Mann-Whitney. The results of this study showed that the OTH group had a higher level of self-efficacy, 46 (92%), than the lateral group, 40 (80%). In addition, the results of the Mann-Whitney statistical test also obtained p-value=0.000 (α=0.05) and mean rank value (OTH=63.30, lateral=37.70), indicating that there was a difference in self-efficacy between the OTH and lateral positions, with the OTH group having higher self-efficacy compared to the lateral group. Therefore, if CPR is performed by a single rescue with a BVM device, it can be performed with the OTH position.
