Abstract

ABSTRACT The energy crisis has led to rising petroleum prices. To address this issue, alternative fuels need to be sought. This study aims to utilize oil from the Jatropha plant (*Jatropha curcas*) to produce biodiesel through a transesterification reaction. The research was conducted using Jatropha oil-to-methanol ratios of 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5, with transesterification reaction times of 2 hours, 2.5 hours, and 3 hours. The results showed that the optimum volume of methyl ester from the transesterification reaction was achieved with a 1:4 ratio and a reaction time of about 2 hours.Keywords: Biodiesel, Jatropha plant, transesterification reaction

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pengendalian korosi dengan menggunakan inhibitor merupakan salah satu metoda yang lebih murah untuk menghambat laju korosi dibandingkan dengan metoda yang lain. Penggunaan ekstrak daun tanjung sebagai inhibitor korosi untuk baja karbon dalam lingkungan garam klorida telah dilakukan di laboratorium menggunakan metoda perendaman dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak daun tanjung 1 ml/L, 2 ml/L, 3 ml/L, 4 ml/L, dan 5 ml/L dan waktu perendaman 4 hari, 8 hari, dan 12 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak daun tanjung dan semakin lama waktu perendaman maka laju korosi semakin rendah. Efisiensi inhibisi mengalami peningkatan dengan peningkatan konsentrasi ekstrak daun tanjung dan waktu perendaman. Efisiensi inhibisi maksimum sebesar 95,85 % diperoleh pada konsentrasi ekstrak daun tanjung 5 ml/L dan waktu perendaman 12 hari.Kata kunci : ekstrak daun tanjung, inhibitor, korosi, metoda perendaman.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Polyurethanes (PUs) are very versatile polymeric materials with a wide range of physical and chemical properties. PUs also have desirable properties such as high abrasion resistance, tear strength, shock absorption, flexibility and elasticity. Although they have poor thermal stability that however can be improved by using treated clay. The objective of the present work is to study the thermal stability of polyurethane, polyurethane/montmorillonite (PU CTAB-mont 3% wt) and polyurethane/montmorillonite that contain moca nanocomposites are based on palm oil polyol. The interest of investigating the synthesis of polyurethane/clay nanocomposites based on palm oil polyol is to explore the use of palm oil polyol to replace petrochemical based polyol partially. Polyurethane/clay nanocomposites were prepared by a pre-polymer method and were evaluated by fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) to determine micro-domain structures of segmented PU, PU CTAB-mont 3% wt, and PU Moca CTAB-mont 3% wt. The morphology of the nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (X-RD) and flame retardant was investigated with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The result showed that adding clay and moca demonstrated better thermal stability in comparison with the virgin polyurethane. Keywords: Nanocomposite, polyurethane, synthesis, palm oil polyol

Abstract

ABSTRACT In this study, we focused on detection of metal ions at low concentration in aqueous solution by using NIRS. New “aquaphotomics” concept (Tsenkova, 2007) has become a powerful strategy to understand the spectral changes related to small concentration of solutes in aqueous solution. To improve the model accuracy it is important to understand why it is possible to detect the object of interest using NIRS. Although detectable, metals have no absorption in NIR region (Sakudo,et,al, 2007). However it is perhaps due to their vibrational modes that are modulated by forming complexes with organic molecules containing C-H, N-H and O-H bonds. Therefore, alteration of the vibrational mode of water matrix caused by metal can be detected by NIRS. In this study, we present NIR spectroscopy link to aquaphotomics as a tool to predict low concentration (0-10.mg L-1) of Mg(II), Zn(II), Mn(II) and Cd(II).Keywords : NIR spectroscopy, spectral changes, absorbance

Abstract

ABSTRAK Ie kuloh sira merupakan larutan yang diperoleh dari limbah industri garam rakyat. Ie kuloh sira dapat dipakai sebagai bahan penggumpal dalam proses pembuatan tahu. Penambahan 50 ml Ie kuloh sira di dalam 50 liter susu kedelai dapat menghasilkan tahu dengan rasa yang enak dan aroma yang sedap karena di dalam ie kuloh sira masih tersisa garam NaCl yang tidak habis mengkristal. Kelebihan volume ie kuloh sira akan menyebabkan rasa tahu menjadi pahit dan warna menjadi coklat. Waktu pengendapan yang baik adalah 25 menit dengan kadar protein 32,9% dan rendemen 10.292,5 gram.Kata kunci: Ie kuloh sira, penggumpal protein, tahu.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Krisis energi menyebabkan harga minyak bumi semakin meningkat. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, perlu dicari bahan bakar alternatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan memanfaatkan minyak tumbuhan Jarak (Jatropha curcas) untuk menghasilkan biodiesel melalui reaksi transesterifikasi. Kualitas merupakan faktor terpenting untuk mendapatkan kepuasan konsumen. Kualitas akan lebih baik apabila proses tersebut berjalan dengan konsisten. Metode Peta Kendali (Control Chart) digunakan untuk melihat keadaan dari proses produksi yang berjalan, kemudian dilakukan perbaikan melalui pendekatan metode Taguchi. Perbaikan berawal dari pemilihan faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap karateristik kualitas tersebut beserta nilai level, yang kemudian menjadi dasar dalam pemilihan Orthogonal Array. Hasil analisa diolah dengan menggunakan noise signal to ratio (SNR) dan analysis of variance. Berdasarkan penelitian tersebut didapat hasil bahwa setting level terbaik untuk faktor kendali yang berpengaruh terhadap kontribusi nilai flash point dari biodiesel sebesar 71,704 % adalah dengan pengaturan rasio minyak jarak dan solven 1 : 3 pada level 2. Abstract

ABSTRACT Electrodeposition of nanocrystalline is a technologically viable production route to synthesize alloys and metal matrix composites both in bulk from and as coating. Particle concentration in plating bath strongly affects the particle content in the composites produced. The presence of particles in composites changes their characteristics, making them better or worse with respect to tensile strength, hardness or surface texture. With decreasing grain size, the hardness materials initially increase following the regular Hall-Petch relationship.Key Words: Electrodeposition,nanocrystalline, production route, alloys, tensile strength

Abstract

ABSTRACT Silken tofu is a type of tofu that has a soft and compact texture. Ie kuloh sira and ie acid sunti can be used as coagulants. The lack of this coagulant results in a tofu texture that is not compact. Therefore, cornstarch is added to the making of silken tofu to improve the quality of the resulting silken tofu texture. This study aims to determine the effect of the type and concentration of coagulant and cornstarch concentration on the characteristics of silken tofu and the shelf life of silken tofu. This research method uses the Response Surface Method (RSM) and the organoleptic method. Coagulant concentration (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%) and cornstarch concentration (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%). The results obtained for silken tofu with coagulant ie kuloh sira and cornstarch obtained the optimal value, namely at concentrations of ie kuloh sira 2% and cornstarch 10% producing a protein content of 8.45%, texture 4.5 mm/sec. The concentration of ie kuloh sira and cornstarch did not affect the color and aroma of silken tofu, but it did affect the taste of silken tofu. Meanwhile, silk tofu with coagulant ie acid sunti and cornstarch obtained the optimal value, namely at a concentration of 1.5% ie acid sunti and 15% cornstarch producing a protein content of 7.57%, texture 4 mm/sec. The concentration of ie acid sunti and cornstarch has an effect on the color of silken tofu, but has no effect on the aroma and taste of silken tofu. The shelf life of silken tofu with coagulant ie kuloh sira and ie asam sunti only lasted 15 hours at room temperature. Meanwhile, those stored in the refrigerator can last for 3 days with a coagulant ie kuloh sira and 5 days with a coagulant ie acid sunti.Keywords: silken tofu, namely kuloh sira, namely sunti acid, cornstarch, RSM

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan rosin dan alum terhadap sifat mekanik rotan. Variabel-variabel dari penelitian adalah konsentrasi rosin/alum dan temeperatur. Penelitian dilakukan dengan dua kali pengulangan untuk kekuatan tarik rotan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi rosin dan alum memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap kekuatan tarik rotan. Kekuatan tarik rotan cenderung bertambah dengan kenaikan konsentrasi rosin. Pada konsentrasi rosin/alum dengan perbandingan 1:3 memberikan hasil terbaik terhadap kekuatan tarik.Kata Kunci: pemutihan rotan, rosin, alum

Abstract

ABSTRACT Gluten is the protein in flour that gives the viscoelastic properties of dough. There are still inadequate understandings of the knowledge concerning gluten during the dough mixing and the unique properties that gluten posses. Gluten production was examined in terms of quantity and quality of gluten. Quantity of gluten was measured in terms of wet and dry gluten content. Wet gluten content was determined by weighing the gluten obtained from the dough washed under running tap water. The wet gluten was dried using air oven drying method to obtain dry gluten content. In terms of quality, the gluten was analysed in terms of volume expansion, extensibility and rheological characterisation. The volume expansion analysis was performed by frying the wet gluten in hot oil at 170oC in deep fryer for 15 minutes. The volume of fried gluten was measured using mustard seed displacement method and the difference between the volume of fried gluten and the volume of wet gluten is measured as volume expansion of gluten.Keywords : Gluten, rheological, wheat
