Abstract

The research titled “The Effect of Palm Sap Bioethanol Composition as an Additive in Pertalite RON 90 Fuel on the Performance of a 4-Stroke Gasoline Engine” was motivated by the increasing demand for energy and the high dependence on fossil fuels, which contribute to environmental pollution. Therefore, the utilization of renewable energy has become one of the solutions that can be developed, one of which is through the use of bioethanol derived from sugar palm sap as an alternative fuel. Sugar palm sap bioethanol has a sufficiently high alcohol content, making it a potential additive in gasoline to improve combustion quality. This study aims to analyze the effect of palm sap bioethanol blend compositions in Pertalite RON 90 fuel on the exhaust gas emission characteristics of a four-stroke gasoline engine. The research method employed was an experimental approach, involving RON (Research Octane Number) testing and exhaust gas emission testing on a gasoline engine using various fuel blend variations. The tests were conducted using a gas analyzer to measure exhaust emission parameters, including carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon dioxide (CO₂), oxygen (O₂), and the lambda value, which indicates the air-to-fuel ratio in the combustion process. The results of the study indicate that adding palm sap bioethanol to Pertalite fuel tends to reduce CO and HC emissions, suggesting more complete combustion within the combustion chamber. Additionally, the increase in CO₂ and O₂ levels indicates improved oxidation during combustion as the percentage of bioethanol in the fuel mixture increases. The lambda values obtained are within a range close to stoichiometric conditions, indicating a better balance of the air-to-fuel ratio during the combustion process. Based on these research results, it can be concluded that sugar palm sap bioethanol has the potential to be used as a more environmentally friendly fuel additive in gasoline engines without requiring significant engine modifications. Keywords: palm sap bioethanol, Pertalite RON 90, exhaust emissions, gasoline engines, alternative fuels.

Abstract

This study aims to utilize Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) and Leucaena leucocephala leaves (Leucaena leucocephala) as raw materials for making environmentally friendly liquid organic fertilizer (POC). This study examines the effect of the composition of raw materials of Moringa leaves and Leucaena leucocephala leaves, as well as fermentation time on the quality of the resulting POC, which is tested based on parameters of pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), macronutrient content (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), and C-organic content. This study was conducted with variations in the composition of Moringa leaves and Leucaena leaves at a ratio of 1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1, as well as varying fermentation times for 7, 12, 17, 22, and 27 days. The results of the study showed that the combination of Moringa leaves and Leucaena leucaena leaves at a ratio of 1:1 and fermentation for 17 days produced POC with optimal nutritional content, namely Nitrogen (0.31%), Phosphorus (0.17%), Potassium (0.25%), and C-organic (0.42%). In addition, this study also showed that fermentation time had a significant effect on the quality of POC, with an increase in POC quality on the 17th day of fermentation. The results of this study can be used as an alternative in making liquid organic fertilizers with local, environmentally friendly raw materials, as well as contributing to sustainable agriculture through the use of more efficient and affordable fertilizers. Keywords: Liquid Organic Fertilizer, Moringa Leaves, Leucaena Leaves, Fermentation, Plant Nutrition.

Abstract

Developments in the cosmetics industry, particularly in hair care products, have driven the creation of innovative, natural-based formulations that are safe and environmentally friendly. One of the most popular products is pomade, especially among men. However, many pomades available on the market still contain synthetic ingredients that can cause long-term side effects. This study aims to formulate pomade using natural active ingredients, namely virgin coconut oil (VCO) and aloe vera (Aloe vera L.), and to evaluate the effect of varying the volume of these two ingredients on the physical characteristics and total antioxidant content of the product. VCO was used in volume variations of 0; 5; 10; 15; and 20 ml, while aloe vera was used in variations of 0; 2.5; 5; 7.5; and 10 ml. The parameters tested included pH, melting point, ash content, homogeneity, organoleptic properties, and total antioxidants using the DPPH method. The results showed that the addition of VCO and aloe vera affected the physical properties and antioxidant content of the pomade. The best formula was obtained from a combination of 15 ml of VCO and 10 ml of aloe vera, with a pH of 6.5; melting point of 43°C; ash content of 0.08%; and the highest antioxidant content of 1.5350 mg of vitamin C equivalent per gram. Most samples were homogeneous and organoleptically acceptable, except at the highest concentration, which showed heterogeneity. The combination of VCO and aloe vera proved effective in producing a stable pomade. Keywords: Aloe vera, Antioxidant, Natural cosmetics, Pomade, Virgin coconut oil

Abstract

Peat water is brown in color, acidic, and contains high levels of organic matter, meaning it does not meet clean water standards. This study used kaolin-based microfiltration ceramic membranes and activated carbon for peat water purification. The membrane composition varied from kaolin (80, 85, 90, 95, 100)% and activated carbon (20, 15, 10, 5, 0)%, sintering at temperatures of 900, 950, 1000, 1050, and 1100°C to determine the effect of composition and sintering temperature on membrane characteristics and filtration performance. Characterization was performed through density, porosity, flux, surface morphology (SEM), and water filtration tests for pH, TDS, and turbidity. The best results were obtained with a membrane composed of 90% kaolin and 10% activated carbon sintered at 1100°C, with a porosity of 40.08%, density of 1.40 g/cm³, flux of 272.38 L/m²·hour, and pore size of 0.56–3.44 µm. Filtration tests showed a 94% reduction in turbidity, an increase in pH from 4.5 to 6.8, and a 41% reduction in TDS. Keywords: Ceramic Membrane, Kaolin, Microfiltration, Peat Water, Sintering

Abstract

Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is generally used for its flesh, while the white part of the rind (albedo) is rarely used and often becomes waste. Albedo contains high levels of pectin, making it suitable for processing into food products such as sheet jam, which is an innovative thin sheet of jam that is practical to serve. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in pectin concentration and heating time on the physical and organoleptic characteristics of watermelon albedo sheet jam. The experimental design used a two-factor factorial: pectin concentration (0.5%; 1%; 1.5%; 2%; 2.5%) and heating time (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 minutes) with 25 treatment combinations. The parameters observed included moisture content, pH, syneresis, hardness, and organoleptic properties (color, aroma, taste). The results showed that an increase in pectin concentration and heating time had a significant effect on reducing moisture content, increasing hardness, reducing syneresis, and altering sensory perception. The best treatment was found in the 2.0% pectin and 5-minute heating sample, producing a firm but not too hard texture (247 g), low syneresis (1.82%), moisture content of 17.79%, and pH of 4.7. Watermelon albedo has the potential as a raw material for sheet jam with the right pectin and heating formulation. Keywords: Heating Time, Pectin, Physical Characteristics, Sheet Jam, Watermelon Albedo

Abstract

Hand and body lotion is a cosmetic preparation used for skin care. Butterfly pea extract (Clitoria ternatea L.) was selected due to its anthocyanin, flavonoid, and phenolic content, which act as natural antioxidants. This study aims to formulate hand and body lotion based on Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), coconut oil, and butterfly pea extract, and to evaluate its physical, chemical, and antioxidant properties. The extract was obtained through maceration using 70% ethanol with a yield of 37.28%. Lotion formulations were prepared with various ratios of VCO:Coconut Oil (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, 0:1) and butterfly pea extract additions of 1–5 mL. The results showed that all formulations met SNI 16-3499-1996 standards with pH ranging from 5.0 to 6.6, viscosity between 43,000–47,000 cP, and specific gravity between 0.95–1.03 g/mL. Organoleptic tests indicated that the VCO:Coconut Oil ratio of 1:0 with 1– 3 mL extract was the most preferred by panelists. Antioxidant activity analysis yielded an IC50 value of 1.54 ppm, indicating very strong activity. The study concludes that the combination of Virgin Coconut Oil, coconut oil, and butterfly pea extract significantly affects the physical and antioxidant characteristics of the produced hand and body lotion. Keywords: Antioxidant, Butterfly Pea Extract, Hand and Body Lotion, Coconut Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil

Abstract

Kabupaten Aceh Tenggara, located within the Leuser Ecosystem, carries a high risk of hydrometeorological disasters. This study aims to map landslide hazard level zonation using the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF)-Japan through Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. The parameters used include rainfall, land use, slope inclination, soil type, geological type, and landform. Analysis was conducted using overlay and scoring techniques. The results show that Southeast Aceh Regency has three hazard level categories: low (7.19% or 306 km²), moderate (89.78% or 3,806 km²), and high (3.03% or 130 km²). Areas with a high hazard level are dominated by forest areas with steep slopes (15%) and high rainfall (3,500 mm/year). This mapping is expected to serve as a foundation for spatial planning policies and disaster mitigation in the region. Key words: Landslides, MAFF-Japan Method, Aceh Tenggara, Geographic Information System, Mitigation
