Abstract

This research analyzes the effectiveness of the murottal method in enhancing both the speed and long-term retention of Quranic memorization among adult participants in private tahfidz programs. Utilizing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, the study involved eight adult learners aged 26–35, randomly assigned to either an experimental group employing the murottal method with structured audio listening or a control group using traditional manual techniques. Memorization was assessed through rigorous oral testing, evaluating fluency, tajwid accuracy, and makhraj. The findings reveal a marked superiority of the murottal approach: the experimental group successfully memorized 100% of the target verses (20 verses) and retained 92.5% of the material after one month. In stark contrast, the control group achieved only 60% memorization with a retention rate of 45.83%. Statistical analysis confirmed these differences were significant. These results demonstrate that the murottal method, which actively engages auditory memory and utilizes melodic reinforcement, is a substantially more effective strategy for adult memorization. Therefore, the study strongly advocates for the formal integration of this method into tahfidz curricula to improve pedagogical efficiency and learning outcomes for adult students.

Abstract

The family is the primary educational environment for the formation of children's values and character. Islamic Religious Education teachers hold a strategic position because they play a dual role as formal educators at school and role models of religious and social values within the family. This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing religious and social values in the parenting patterns of Islamic Religious Education teachers' families in Negeri Besar District, Way Kanan. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with 12 purposively selected families of Islamic Religious Education teachers as subjects. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results show that internalization of religious values is carried out through the habit of routine worship, moral education based on the dalil (theoretical principle), and consistent parental role models. Meanwhile, social values are internalized through children's active involvement in community activities, concrete practices of social concern, and reflective dialogue to foster empathy. The dominant parenting style is democratic-authoritative parenting with a foundation of Islamic values, characterized by two-way communication and clear yet flexible rules. This finding confirms that a professional background as an Islamic Religious Education teacher is an important cultural asset in forming structured parenting strategies, even though it still faces contemporary challenges such as the influence of digital technology and parents' limited time.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the integration of religious humanism values in digital learning within schools and madrasahs, focusing on the process of meaning transformation experienced by teachers and students. The development of educational technology offers both opportunities and challenges for Islamic education, where religious humanism combining respect for human dignity with spiritual dimensions needs to be systematically embedded in digital learning practices. Transformative Learning theory serves as the primary analytical framework, while Care Ethics and al-Attas's ta'dib concept reinforce the affective, moral, and spiritual aspects. This research employed a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design in three schools and two madrasahs in Tulungagung, East Java. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, then analyzed through reduction, categorization, and theory driven interpretation. The study identified five key findings: (1) shared understanding of religious humanism, (2) value-based digital learning strategies, (3) institutional policy support, (4) integration of values into daily practices, and (5) technical, pedagogical, and cultural challenges addressed through adaptive strategies such as teacher training and digital module development. The resulting conceptual model integrates the primary and supporting theories in a synergistic relationship. The integration of religious humanism values in digital learning has been proven to foster profound meaning transformation, strengthen teacher-student relationships, and enhance the moral and spiritual dimensions of Islamic education, thereby contributing theoretically to contemporary Islamic education development and offering practical guidance for educators and policymakers.

Abstract

This study examines Muhammad Arkoun’s thesis on the historicity of the Qur’an, focusing on its epistemological basis, the historical validity of Qur’anic transmission, and its methodological implications for contemporary Qur’anic studies. Arkoun proposes a fundamental dichotomy between the Qur’an as prophetic discourse and the written muṣḥaf as a historically constructed corpus subjected to canonical closure and interpretive authority. This study employed a qualitative library research design with a critical–interpretive approach and historical verification through classical ʿulūm al-Qur’ān literature and contemporary Qur’anic manuscript studies. The findings showed that: (1) Arkoun’s dichotomy lacks strong transmissional and historical grounding, as Qur’anic preservation has operated through a system of double authentication (oral–written), validated via muʿāraḍah, ḥifẓ, and communal codification (jamʿ tawthīqī); (2) the canonization of the muṣḥaf is more accurately conceptualized as closure by authentication, rather than closure by domination as assumed through Biblical canon-formation analogies; and (3) the core issue in Arkoun’s thesis lies not in the use of historical criticism itself, but in its transformation into an ontological claim that relativizes revelation converting historicity as method into historicity as ontological status. This study emphasizes the need for a critical-constructive framework in Qur’anic studies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of Abu Zaid al-Balkhi’s psychological educational framework to the psychological education practices implemented at Pesantren Daarul Muwahhidiin, Tanah Datar. As a prominent figure in the classical Islamic psychological tradition, al-Balkhi offers a comprehensive approach to mental health through the concepts of cognitive–emotional balance, internal and external therapies, and preventive measures against psychological disturbances such as anger, acute fear (panic attack), depression, and obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study design through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate a significant alignment between al-Balkhi’s concepts and the pesantren’s psychological education practices, particularly in emotional regulation, spiritual cultivation, counseling services, and cognitive strategies for managing anxiety and impulsive behavior. The pesantren applies several preventive and interventive measures, including counseling programs, religious instruction, spiritual habituation, Islamic-based cognitive therapy, as well as spiritual practices such as Qur’anic recitation and dhikr. The study concludes that al-Balkhi’s psychological insights are highly relevant and can serve as a foundation for developing an Islamic psychological curriculum, strengthening teacher capacity, and enhancing integrated cognitive–spiritual counseling services in pesantren. This research recommends the development of a systematic Islamic psychology curriculum and further empirical studies on the effectiveness of cognitive–spiritual interventions within Islamic boarding school settings.

Abstract

This study examines hadith compilations from the pre-Kutub al-Sittah period—such as Al-Muwaṭṭa’, Musnad al-Syāfi‘ī, and Musnad Aḥmad—to the six canonical collections of Kutub al-Sittah (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Jāmi‘ al-Tirmiżī, Sunan al-Nasā’ī, and Sunan Ibn Mājah) in order to understand the systematic development of hadith text (matan) verification. Using a qualitative method and library research approach, the study reveals that classical scholars did not assess the sanad alone but also examined the matan based on its consistency with the Qur’an and mutawātir Sunnah, rational coherence, internal consistency, and historical context. The findings affirm that matan criticism constitutes an integral and enduring part of the scientific methodology of hadith studies. This research recommends strengthening the study of matan authenticity through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates historical, linguistic, and social dimensions, as well as reinforcing hadith studies curricula in Islamic educational institutions to enable future scholars to interpret hadith both textually and contextually while preserving the authenticity of the Prophet’s teachings

Abstract

This study aims to explain the essence of organizational theory and concept from an Islamic perspective as a conceptual foundation for the development of Islamic educational management. In modern organizational theory, the emphasis on rationality, efficiency, and structure often neglects moral and spiritual dimensions, creating the need for a value-oriented alternative paradigm. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes classical to contemporary organizational theories and compares them with Islamic principles such as tawhid (unity of purpose), justice, trustworthiness (amanah), and consultation (shura). The findings indicate that Islamic organizational theory is value-oriented, humanistic, and spiritual, where every structure and decision within the organization is viewed as a collective trust and act of worship. The integration of knowledge and values within Islamic organizational theory produces a holistic paradigm that unites rationality, morality, and spirituality as the basis for just and ethical organizational management. This study contributes to strengthening the model of Islamic educational organizations that emphasize not only performance efficiency but also social benefit and divine blessing.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of intolerance, hate speech, and socio-religious polarization in Indonesia highlights the urgent need to reaffirm Qur'anic ethical values in social relations. This study examines QS. Al-Mumtahanah [60]:8 as a normative foundation for tolerance grounded in al-birr (active social goodness) and al-qisth (proportional justice), a verse that has received relatively limited focused attention in Qur'anic tolerance studies. Employing a qualitative approach with a thematic-contextual (maudhu'i-contextual) method, this research treats QS. Al-Mumtahanah:8 as the primary data, supported by classical and modern Qur'anic commentaries. The analysis integrates linguistic, historical (asbab al-nuzul), and comparative approaches to the interpretations of Muslim exegetes. The findings demonstrate that tolerance in this verse is not conceived as passive conflict avoidance, but as an active ethical commitment to benevolence and justice toward those of different faiths who do not engage in hostility. This study proposes a constructive and applicable model of Qur'anic tolerance relevant to Indonesia's multicultural society and contributes to the strengthening of religious moderation and inclusive Islamic literacy.

Abstract

The development of digital media and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought fundamental changes to various aspects of human life, including education, da’wah, and religious practices. On the one hand, digital technology provides easier access to information, learning efficiency, and opportunities for the transformation of Islamic education. On the other hand, it also g presents serious challenges in the form of ethical crises, moral degradation, dehumanization, and the potential distortion of spiritual values. This article aims to analyze the integration of Islamic values in the utilization of digital media and AI in the modern technological era as an effort to maintain a balance between technological advancement and human values. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by examining primary and secondary sources, including the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Islamic texts, and contemporary scholarly literature related to Islamic ethics and technology. The discussion reveals that Islamic values such as tawhid, trust (amanah), justice, responsibility, and noble character, grounded in the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, can serve as an ethical foundation for the development and utilization of digital media and AI. The integration of these values is essential to ensure that technology functions as a means of public welfare rather than merely a tool of technical efficiency, thereby remaining aligned with Islamic spiritual and humanitarian objectives.

Abstract

The moral and spiritual crisis that occurs in the midst of scientific and technological advances shows that there is an inequality in the modern educational process that emphasizes too much on the intellectual aspect and ignores the spiritual dimension of humans. In the Islamic view, human beings have a complete essence, including elements of the body, intellect, spirit, and nafs that must be developed in a balanced manner. This research aims to analyze the concept of human nature from an Islamic perspective and outline its implications for the philosophy of Islamic education. Using a qualitative approach based on literature study, this study found that human nature is the ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundation for Islamic education. Islamic education is ideally directed to form kamil people through the integration of intellectual, moral, and spiritual development. The implications of this study emphasize that the philosophy of Islamic education must be oriented towards the formation of people who are faithful, knowledgeable, and civilized, so that they are able to answer the challenges of the times while supporting the development of superior human resources and character within the framework of monotheistic values.
