Abstract

This study examines the process of Jam‘ul Qur’an during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions, focusing on the historical context of revelation, the system of collection, and the authenticity of the mushaf. The findings show that the codification of the Al-Qur’an began gradually during the Prophet’s lifetime rather than after his death. This process operated through the institution of revelation, with the Prophet as the authoritative recipient, Gabriel as the transmitter, the kuttāb al-wahy as scribes, and the companions’ collective memorization as guardians of oral transmission. During the era of the Khulafā’ ar-Rāshidīn, codification progressed through two major phases that is the initial compilation of the mushaf under Abu Bakar as-Ṣiddīq and the standardization of the text under ‘Utsmān bin ‘Affān. Using qualitative methods and both classical and contemporary literature, the study affirms the Al-Qur’an’s authenticity through dual transmission channels mutawātir memorization and written documentation. Unlike earlier studies that emphasize a single codification period, this research provides a historical synthesis across phases and connects modern textual criticism with the epistemology of Islamic revelation. It concludes that the Al-Qur’an used today is an authentic continuation of the ‘Utsmānī codex, whose integrity has been preserved throughout history.

Abstract

The phenomenon of harassment of kiai in a Trans7 broadcast on October 13, 2025, indicates a serious problem in religious ethics and public communication. As a figure of ulama and guardian of community morals, kiai holds a central position in the Nusantara Islamic tradition, so that respect for him is part of Islamic etiquette based on the values of the Qur'an. This study aims to analyze media representations of kiai figures and examine how the principles of Islamic etiquette can become a framework for criticism of communication practices that demean the dignity of ulama. The method used is descriptive qualitative through content analysis and maudhu'i interpretation of Quranic verses on the ethics of speaking, respect for ulama, and social ethics, combined with Stuart Hall's representation theory. The results show that the media encoding process reflects the logic of entertainment capitalism that normalizes jokes about kiai. Meanwhile, audience decoding is divided into three positions: dominant, negotiating, and opposition. The Qur'anic perspective assesses that this practice is contrary to the principles of etiquette in QS. Al-Baqarah: 83, QS. Al-Ahzab: 70, and QS. Al-Hujurat: 2, 6, 11. This study emphasizes the importance of Qur'anic ethics as a critical paradigm in building a civilized media culture and maintaining the dignity of scholars.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia has tended to change over time. In the pre-independence era, Islamic education consisted of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and halaqoh (religious study groups). During this period, the educational model remained classical and one-way. The kiyai, as the central teacher, taught his students through lectures in mosques, prayer rooms, or on the steps of the pesantren classrooms. However, with the advent of independence, the educational model of pesantren began to change to adapt to the times. This was especially true after the enactment of Law No. 4 of 1950 concerning Islamic Religious Education in Schools. Consequently, some Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) began reconstructing their learning models and curricula to align with government policies that allowed Islamic boarding schools to provide formal education, including junior high and senior high schools (SMP), MTs (Islamic junior high schools), and MA (Islamic junior high schools). This reconstruction also shifted the paradigm of Islamic boarding school education. The classical methods initially taught began to be updated with the addition of general subjects. However, there are certainly many challenges faced in the struggle for education in this Islamic boarding school. In this study, the researcher concluded that the Daarul Muwahhidiin Islamic boarding school provides an integrated education between classical and modern methods, which can be seen from the schools of thought that influence the development of the curriculum and the integrated curriculum structure in this Islamic boarding school. There are challenges in the form of difficulties in adapting for teachers teaching Islamic boarding school subjects when using learning media, while opportunities for Islamic boarding schools as character resilience amidst the decline in moral values of society. This study used a descriptive qualitative method by conducting interviews, observations, and documentation to obtain research data.

Abstract

The long-standing dichotomy between religious sciences and general sciences has created a significant epistemological gap that affects the development and relevance of Islamic education in the modern era. This article aims to comprehensively analyze M. Amin Abdullah’s integrative–interconnective paradigm as an alternative approach to bridging this separation and constructing a more holistic scientific framework. Using a literature-based method, this study examines the conceptual foundation, epistemological principles, and practical implications of an integrative model that harmonizes revelation, reason, and empirical reality. The findings indicate that Amin Abdullah’s “spider web of knowledge” encourages multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary dialogue, thereby overcoming fragmentation and generating mutually reinforcing scientific insights. These results demonstrate that the integrative–interconnective paradigm is not only a theoretical framework for reconstructing contemporary Islamic epistemology but also has substantial implications for curriculum reform, learning strategies, character development, and the strengthening of religious moderation. Thus, this approach provides a significant contribution to shaping Islamic education that is more responsive, adaptive, and relevant to the challenges of the digital age and the complexities of modern life.

Abstract

One form of divine education for humans is realized through the stories told in the Koran. The story of Ashabul Kahf is part of the Qur'anic narrative which is full of values of faith, steadfast principles, and divine protection for a group of young people who maintain monotheism amidst the pressures of an infidel environment. This research aims to reveal the thematic meaning of the story of Ashabul Kahf through a maudhu'i (thematic) tafsir approach, by tracing the verses of the QS. Al-Kahf: 9–26 and examines various interpretations from classical and contemporary scholars such as Ibn Kathir, Al-Maraghi, and M. Quraish Shihab. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method, with data collection techniques through literature studies that examine various relevant academic literature sources. The research results show that the story of Ashabul Kahf contains the main message about steadfastness of faith (tsabat al-iman), moral courage, and total surrender to Allah as a form of pure monotheism. This story also affirms God's power over time and human life, while also reflecting that God's protection and help will always accompany His faithful and consistent servants. The story's relevance in the contemporary context is evident in efforts to foster the character of the younger generation of Muslims, ensuring they remain steadfast in the values of faith and integrity amidst the challenges of modernity

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the semantic meaning of the term Rabb in the Qur’an and explain its implications for the concept of Islamic education, particularly within the framework of tarbiyah. The research employs a library-based method with a Qur’anic semantic approach through lexical analysis, contextual examination of verses, and semantic relation mapping. Data were obtained from primary sources consisting of Qur’anic verses containing the word Rabb, as well as secondary sources such as classical and contemporary tafsir works, tarbiyah literature, and studies in Arabic linguistics. The findings indicate that the term Rabb encompasses a broad range of meanings, including creation, nurturing, regulation, guidance, and the gradual perfection of human nature (fitrah). These results affirm that tarbiyah in the Qur’anic perspective is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but an integral and continuous process that involves spiritual, moral, intellectual, and social development. The study concludes that understanding the comprehensive meaning of Rabb provides a theological and philosophical foundation for a holistic Islamic educational concept that is gradual, character-oriented, and centered on the development of human fitrah toward maturity and piety. Abstract

This article examines the hadith concerning the request to live in poverty through the Ma‘ānī al-Ḥadīth approach, a method of hadith understanding that emphasizes the analysis of the meanings of lafaz, the historical context, and the moral objectives contained in the text. A hadith that literally appears as an encouragement to ask for a life of poverty is often misunderstood and creates debate among Muslim communities. This study employs a qualitative method with a library-research design, drawing sources from the Qur’an, primary hadith collections, classical commentaries such as those of al-Nawawī and Ibn Ḥajar, as well as contemporary literature including the works of Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī and various academic studies. The analysis shows that the request to live in poverty is not a normative command of the Prophet, but an expression of humility, simplicity, and inner freedom from dependence on worldly matters. A proper understanding of the hadith requires integrating linguistic analysis, comprehension of the socio-historical context, and the relevance of its values in modern life. This study affirms that Islam does not promote extreme asceticism or the romanticization of poverty; rather, it encourages a balance between spiritual piety and economic independence. The Ma‘ānī al-Ḥadīth approach proves effective in presenting a more proportional interpretation aligned with the guidance of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, enabling this research to contribute to scholarly discourse on hadith understanding and socio-economic ethics in Islam.
