Abstract

Emesis gravidarum is excessive nausea and vomiting that commonly occurs in pregnant women in the first trimester. This condition can disrupt daily activities, reduce nutritional intake, and impact the health of both the mother and the fetus. The use of non-pharmacological therapies such as ginger aromatherapy is considered safer and more effective because ginger contains active compounds like gingerol which have the ability to prevent or reduce nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. This study aims to determine the effect of ginger aromatherapy on reducing emesis gravidarum in pregnant women in the first trimester at PMB Morina Neri Deli Serdang in 2025. This type of research is quantitative with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 20 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observation sheets using the PUQE Score (Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis) before and after the treatment of ginger aromatherapy for 5 consecutive days. The results of the study  showed that after conducting the Wilcoxon test with a P value of 0.000 < 0.05, it indicates that there is an effect of ginger aromatherapy tretment on reducing emesis gravidarum in pregnant women in the first trimester at PMB Morina Neri Deli Serdang in 2025. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of ginger aromatherapy on reducing emesis gravidarum in pregnant women in the first trimester at PMB Morina Neri Deli Serdang in 2025. It is expected that at PMB Morina Neri Deli Serdang, ginger aromatherapy can be utilized as a safe supportive therapy in midwifery services, particularly in handling complaints of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.

Abstract

Infant development according to their age shows that 52.5% experience gross and fine motor disorders. Lack of stimulation in infants can cause developmental delays that impact subsequent stages. Several factors influence gross motor development, including biological, environmental, health, and psychosocial factors. The recommended stimulation is baby massage. This study aims to determine the effect of baby massage on gross motor development in infants aged 3-6 months at Midwife Sehati's Private Practice. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach without a control group. The population of this study consists of 30 infants aged 3-6 months, and the sample includes 15 infants selected through purposive sampling. Baby massage is performed for 4 weeks with a frequency of twice a week. Data analysis in this study uses the Wilcoxon test. The study of the results showed that before the intervention, 15 infants (100%) had motor development categorized as questionable. After the baby massage intervention, 13 infants (86.7%) were categorized as normal, and 2 (13.3%) were questionable. The Wilcoxon test results with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) indicated that the hypothesis was accepted, suggesting that baby massage has a significant effect on gross motor development in infants aged 3-6 months at PMB Sehati Medan in 2026. The conclusion, baby massage performed by the researcher can support gross motor development in infants. It is suggested that healthcare professionals provide baby massage counseling to support gross motor development in infants.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the combination of cucumber infused water (Cucumis sativus) and peppermint leaves (Mentha piperita) in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women at Klinik Prima Melati Medan in 2026. Design/Methods/Approach: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with a control group approach. The sample consisted of 30 first-trimester pregnant women with nausea-vomiting complaints, divided into 15 intervention groups and 15 control groups by purposive sampling. The intervention group received cucumber and mint infused water 250 mL three times daily for 7 days. Nausea-vomiting was measured using the PUQE (Pregnancy Unique Quantification of Emesis) scale. Findings/Results: There was a significant reduction in PUQE scores in the intervention group (pre-test mean 11.47 vs post-test 5.13, p = 0.000), while the control group showed no significant change (p = 0.312). The independent t-test confirmed a significant difference between groups (p = 0.000). Conclusions: The combination of cucumber and mint infused water is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in first-trimester pregnant women. This non-pharmacological intervention is safe, easy to implement, and affordable, making it a viable complementary therapy in antenatal care.
