Abstract

Background: Indonesia experiences extremely high traffic accident rates, with motorcyclists and young drivers disproportionately affected due to prevalent human factors, insufficient safety education, and peer-influenced risky behaviors. Objective: In response, this community service initiative integrates comprehensive theoretical instruction with driving simulations to enhance road safety awareness and improve cognitive driving behaviors among adolescent students, specifically those at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur. Method: This community service initiative employed a methodology that integrated theoretical instruction based on the Theory of Planned Behavior with virtual driving simulations, assessing its impact on adolescent drivers' road safety awareness through pre- and post-tests and participant satisfaction surveys. Results: The combined theoretical and simulation-based intervention was highly effective in enhancing adolescent drivers' perception of safety, as evidenced by a 32%, 32%, and 33% increase in their correct answer rates for Attitude, Subjective Norms, and Perceived Behavioral Control, respectively. Conclusion: The combined theoretical and simulation based intervention effectively improved road safety attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control among young, inexperienced male high school drivers with a history of incidents, consequently promoting cognitive and attitudinal shifts toward safer road behavior.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major public health problem, accounting for approximately 13% of total mortality and causing around 8 million deaths each year. It is highly prevalent among the elderly (aged over 60 years), with rates ranging from 60% to 80%. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research, hypertension cases in Indonesia continue to rise, affecting 63.2% of individuals aged 65–74 years and 69.5% of those aged 75 years and above. Objective: This program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of elderly individuals in managing hypertension through acupuncture therapy and self-care training. Method: In collaboration with Puskesmas Kowel, the program involved socialization activities, workshops, and a one-month acupuncture therapy service conducted by traditional medicine therapists from Universitas Airlangga. Pre-test and post-test evaluations were administered to assess knowledge improvement and the effectiveness of the therapy in reducing blood pressure. Results: The program successfully enhanced the elderly participants’ understanding of hypertension and acupuncture therapy, as well as their ability to perform self-acupressure techniques. It also strengthened the role of Puskesmas Kowel as an educational and acupuncture therapy center for elderly care in Pamekasan. Conclusion: This initiative provides a foundation for improving the quality of life among the elderly through sustainable complementary therapy practices.

Abstract

Background: The rate of child marriage in Jember Regency, particularly in Sumberkejayan Village, remains high and continues to negatively affect children’s physical, psychological, social, and economic well-being. Comprehensive reproductive health education from the elementary level is crucial; however, teachers often face limitations in delivering this material through engaging and context-appropriate media. Objective: This program aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of interactive learning media using Articulate Storyline to improve elementary students’ understanding of reproductive health and to strengthen teachers’ competence. Method: The program employed a Research and Development (R&D) design following the ADDIE model. A total of 112 students from four elementary schools in Sumberkejayan Village participated. The instrument consisted of 10 Likert-scale items (1–5) administered as pre- and post-tests, and the results were analyzed using the N-gain score. Results: The effectiveness test yielded an average N-gain score of 0.66 (moderate category), demonstrating a significant improvement in students’ understanding. Teachers also reported increased competence in developing and applying interactive media. Conclusion: The use of Articulate Storyline proved effective as a technology-based tool for reproductive health education in elementary schools and enhanced teachers’ pedagogical competence. This program offers a preventive and educational strategy to help reduce the incidence of child marriage through innovative, interactive learning.

Abstract

Background: Many individuals in the Yasinan group report experiencing pain in their knees and back, and they also have a history of elevated uric acid levels. Uric acid is a waste product generated from the metabolism of purines, primarily filtered by the kidneys and excreted through urine. Excess uric acid accumulation in the body, known as hyperuricemia, can lead to the formation of sharp uric acid crystals in the joints, tissues, and other organs, causing inflammation and discomfort. Objective: This community service initiative aimed to enhance the understanding of the Yasinan group in Tlogo Village, Blitar Regency, East Java, regarding the use of red guava as a non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce uric acid levels. Method: The socialization activity was carried out with thirty-three participants from the Yasinan mothers’ collective. Educational materials were delivered through informational brochures and red guava samples. An evaluative assessment was conducted via post-intervention uric acid analysis to monitor changes in uric acid levels following a seven-day intervention period. Results: The findings indicated that after seven days of red guava consumption, there was an average decrease in uric acid levels of 1.128 mg/dL among participants. Conclusion: The socialization program demonstrated that the consumption of red guava fruit for seven consecutive days may contribute to a reduction in uric acid concentrations, with an average decline of 1.128 mg/dL observed.
