Abstract

The objectives of the research are to know how many types loanword and the most dominant loanword in compass daily news paper. The method used in this research is qualitative method to get specific data. The subjects of this research is  from compass news paper 2nd about education of april 2019. The data are collected and categoried based on loanword.  The result showed there are three types of loanword in the compas news paper, they are loanword that has been calculated there are loanword with complete phonetic substitution with the result percentage is 9,92%, rather then loanword without phonetic substitution is 1,18%, and loanword patial phonetic subtituion is 4,01%. Besides, the most dominant loanword used type loanword with complete phonetic substitution

Abstract

This research objects to analyze the relation of students’ reading motivation and reading comprehension among junior high school students in Cimahi, West Java Province, Indonesia. Participants of this research were 33 students of eight grade at SMPN 5 Cimahi, the research was conducted with a quantitative approach and performed in Cimahi, Bandung. Based on the result show that, there is no significant correlation in Students’ Reading motivation because the data show the significant is 0,736 more than 0,05 (> 0,05). The result also show that there is no significant correlation in Reading comprehension because in the data show the significant is 0,376 more than 0,05 ( > 0,05). Beside on the data obtained from 33 students showed that high motivation of reading is 3,3%, medium motivation of reading is 96,7% and not low motivation of reading.  Measurement of students reading motivation was done by using MRQ by Wigfeld, John and Guthrie (1996) and reading comprehension test used narrative text. However, the researchers give a suggestion for teacher to be able to create fun and interesting activity. Such as give interesting text book in reading comprehension, it will help the students to have high reading motivation to read more English text and understand the context.

Abstract

Reading is one of the basic communicative skills, but it has very complex process. It can be said that  reading is a process in which the reader gets message from the author in the written from. The objectivities of this research entitled “Teaching Reading Comprehension Using Previewing technique” was to find out whether or not the previewing as pre reading technique can improve students’ reading comprehension. The population was all the students grade XI of Ma Muslimin Cijenuk in the academic years 2017-2018,while the sample of this research was 34 students of XI science established through random technique. The Research used quantitative method. The instruments used in this research were pretest and posttest. The techniques in analyzing the data were using SPSS version 21. The result of data analysis showed that the value of the t-value is 21.185 is bigger than t-table at level 5%  2.042, it means that the hypothesis null is rejected. The results of the study show that teaching reading using previewing technique in second grade of MA Muslimin Cijenuk is able to improve students’ reading comprehensions.  Keywords:  Reading Comprehension, Previewing Technique

Abstract

In mastering English, students find problems dealing with language skill and language components, most students in Indonesia consider English as a difficult subject which make them frustrated. Writing is one of the four language skills that play a very important role in second language learning. Writing skill is more complex and difficult to teach, requiring the mater not only the grammatical and theoretically devices but also the conceptual. One of the equipment aids that can be used in learning writing is a diary. The main objective of this study is to find out whether writing diary improves students’ writing skill or not. In this research, the researcher used the quantitative method, with classroom action research design. The population of this study was all students of class 8A that consisted of 30 students. Observation, interview, and test as the instruments of this research. The researcher compared the achievement of pre-test to identify the effectiveness of using diary writing.

Abstract

This study is an attempt to analyze the tense and aspects found inside the ”Tangled” movie script. The data source is a sentence or speech the verb contains tense and aspects found on “Tangled” movie script. The study applied descriptive qualitative method.This study belongs to a descriptive research because it collects and analyzes the data, after that draws a conclusion based on the data. Then this research belongs to qualitative research because it involves analyzing and explaining the data. Additionally, this research is designed in descriptive qualitative research because the research examines the types of the language used of Tense and Aspects in "Tangled" Movie Scripts. In this research the data source is “Tangled” Movie Script.In “Tangled” movie script, there was 61 sentences that researcher found in the uses of tense and aspect. From the result above the dominant types on tense and aspect in “Tangled” movie script was simple future and present perfect. In the “Tangled” movie script the researcher didn’t find tense and aspect in past perfect progressive, future progressive, future perfect and future perfect progressive.

Abstract

Music dynamics is now infiltrated on the development of EDM (Electronic Dance Music) genre. Characteristics of those songs combine the beat, effects, and repetition of words. Those reasons make the EDM genre lovers dance. The genre is commonly found in bars, pubs, night clubs, performance and event venues (venues and appearances). This music genre is also found in radio and cable tv. Interestingly, the lyrics of the genre mostly use English. Although in this country, the lyrics sometimes are found in Bahasa. The lyrics in the EDM genre tend to be repetitive. Thus, the possibility of memorizing the lyrics in English may be higher. Memorize the lyrics in direct use when listening to the EDM genre, giving music lovers chance to produce acceptable pronunciation. The purpose of this study is to examine the mastery of English pronunciation through the lyrics of the EDM genre. The study involves three participants. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The result of this research is that all participants feel helpful in improving English pronunciation ability by using EDM genre.

Abstract

The idea translated is a concept or message that the author writes in his writings. Translating Books with religious nuances is more than just transferring the concept or storyline, because it has a high sensibility, which is loaded with sacred meanings that can only be understood well by adherents who really live the expression and means in earnest beside learn and explore the values of religion and belief earlier, but it should also be able to describe messages that can be affected by culture or literal. This article describes the authors' experiences when translating English religious nuances book containing personal experiences from MS. Asma Gull Hasan concerns grief as a minority Muslim group in America. Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tool using aid translators to edit, manage and store translations.

Abstract

Abstract Students should learn speaking skill to communicate as one of four major skills in learning English language. However, language anxiety will be experienced by students in learning speaking. The research is aimed to know students’ perception of language anxiety in speaking skill. The learners’ perception of language anxiety deserve a special mention as it is one of the parties directly involved in learning process. This study explores learners’ perceptions of language anxiety in speaking classes at one of the university in Cimahi. This study involved thirty five students from  Indonesian Language Department as sample. To collect the data the researchers used numerical likert scale in the questionnaire by Dornyeiand Taguchi (2010: 150) with thirteen questions. From the results, most of students felt the various anxieties when they speak; for example being laugh at by other students when they make mistakes, and most of students feel ashamed if they got bad grades in English. Keywords: Students Perception, Language Anxiety, Speaking.

Abstract

Dealing with the difficulties in writing can be carried out by implementing strategies in teaching writing. This research is done to know the benefits of using series of pictures in the process of narrative writing. It is expected that the research can be interesting and enjoyable ways. It is also expected by  the teacher to know  that using series of picture, the students can be stimulated to think cratively in gaining the ideas and learning the narrative writing well. The method of the research was quantitative method, or more specifically quasi-experimental design to see the effectiveness series of picture toward students ’writing skill in narrative text. The population of  this reserach was twelfth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Cijati Cianjur and the sample was class XII. The form of instrument in this research was narrative text writing test. The data was collected by using pre-test and post-test measurement on the control and experiment class and comparing the gained scores between both classes. The result presented that the picture series as media in writing narrative text is effective towards students’writing skill in narrative text. The result of calculation presented that in the significance degree of 5%,the value of t-test (to) >t-table (tt) (5.514> 1.992).According to the criteria of the test, the result showed that there is a significant diferrence between students’writing skill in narrative text by using picture series as media and without picture series.it means that, the picture series is effective and applicable as the media in writing narrative text.

Abstract

Teaching learning process will be effective when there are interactions between the teacher and students. Classroom interaction is one of the crucial factors in the teaching-learning process. Questioning has been recognized as the equipment of classroom teachers and profound to prominent teaching. The objective of this research is to identify the types of basic questions the teacher asks. The research method used descriptive qualitative design. The data were obtained by doing observation and interview with the educator and students as respondent. The population of this research was teacher and students of the second-grade students of SMK TI Garuda Nusantara Cimahi. The data were investigated by applying questioning strategies focused on the variety of teacher questioning. The result showed that entire teacher questioning that found the most frequently used. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the questioning from the teacher was more dominant than student questions.
