Abstract

Education up to now is considered as a medium to build knowledge as well as the personality of children to become better human beings, so positive learning must be instilled in learning. Planting characters can be realized through cooperative learning type group investigation. This research is to overcome learning problems in class related to the character of social care, environmental care, responsibility, and cooperation. This research was conducted in two cycles, using a characteristic behavior observation sheet instrument. Descriptive data analysis by looking at the increase in the percentage of character behavior in students. The implementation of learning in the first cycle is 94% and the second cycle is 100%. Based on the results of observations in the first and second cycles there are positive character developments in students heading in a better direction than before. To build a positive character of character training students need to be carried out continuously so that their development is increasing and entrenched.

Abstract

Characters is something that shows how good someone is. Every human being has the characters since they birth. Characters can be developed on a macro or micro basis, one of which is micro ways with learning and teaching activity in schools. Selection method of learning is vey important to develop good character in students. One method student-centered learning is the Spot Capturing method. This research method uses a literature study method that wants to know the characters that can be developed using the Spot capturing method. The literature results show that spot capturing methods can develop several characters in their implementation such as curiosity, honesty, discipline, hard work, creative, responsibility, social care and communicative.

Abstract

Critical thinking skill is one of the skills that should be possessed by the students to compete in the global area. There are many ways to practice and increase critical thinking skills of the students by using model and media learning. In order to measure critical thinking skills of the students appropriately, we need the precise test instrument. The purposes of this research are to develop and validate of Multimedia Supported Critical Thinking Test (MSCiT Test) instrument in heat transfer learning material for senior high school students. MSCiT Test is a test instrument  that  optimizes  the  function  of  computer  by  presenting  media, simulation, video, and picture which describe the test that will be done by the students in an interactive dynamic content, a content that enables the students to feel as if they face the real phenomena in the test. MSCiT Test is adapted Halpern’s critical thinking framework which was developed by Tiruneh, involving four different categories, reasoning, hypothesis testing, argument analysis and problem solving and decision making. The research method employed in this research was the research and developmental 4-D model method adapted from Thiagarajan, involving four main steps, define, design and develop. MSCiT Test has been tested in terms of its validity. The validity test consists of construct, the analysis of construct validity was conducted by using Content Validity Ratio (CVR). And the result of value of CVR all of item in instrument are valid with value of CVR 0.722.

Abstract

Observation skills are one of the basic skills students must possess in science learning. Through observation skills, students are able to identify facts or initial knowledge before going on to the next stage of the science process skills. In science learning, student observation skills can be observed and measured through all learning activities both in the classroom and in the laboratory (practicum) by using the activity assessment sheet. Activity assessment sheet is a derivative form of performance assessment consisting of 1) student identity, 2) assessment instructions, 3) basic competencies, 4) assessment table (sub-material, observed observation skills, scores, and information), 5) formulation acquisition of final score, and 6) assessment rubric. The assessment sheet for this activity has been tested on 44 junior high school students and the average results reached more than 50% of students showing the highest score of observation skills. Thus, the activity assessment sheet can be said to be used to measure student observation skills.

Abstract

Membrane technology for gas separation applications are limited by a "trade-off" curve between permeability and selectivity. It show that permeability is high, selectivity obtained is low. This problem can be solved by preparation of Mixed-Matrix Membrane (MMMs) which can increase the value of permeability and selectivity. The MMMs with polysulfone polymers and zeolite fillers is more corresponding for gas separation. Addition of zeolite filler to polysulfone polymer in MMMs can improve the CO2 separation performance. In this review, mechanism of gas separation in MMMs was carried out in the application of CO2/CH4 gas separation. In addition, the effect of addition, size and pore of zeolite filler in MMMs for binary gas separation were also discussed in this review.

Abstract

Research has been conducted to determine the effectiveness of the guided discovery model based on the virtual lab PhET (Physics Education technology) on mastering students' concepts in the photoelectric effect material. The purpose of this study is describing the feasibility of learning, student activity, and the effectiveness of the model applied to the mastery of student concepts. This type of research is quantitative descriptive with the design of one group pretest-posttest. The data obtained were in the form of learning accuracy questionnaires, student activities, and the results of the pretest and posttest mastery of students' concepts. Analysis of data on implementation and activities of students used percentage of agreement, while mastery of students' concepts was analyzed descriptively quantitatively through homogeneity, normality, and N-gain test. Based on data and analysis, it was concluded that the implementation of categorical learning was very good, student activities were in good category, and guided discovery models based on virtual labs PhET were effectively used to improve mastery of students' concepts in the photoelectric effect material.
