Abstract

Public vehicles are predominantly the commonest and most widely used means of transport for humans in this current time. However, passengers who often commute with public vehicles mostly encounter the challenge of missing their destination primarily due to difficulties in communicating their destination to the driver, sleeping in the case of long-distance travel or the inability to recognize their destinations, and many more. In this paper, a fully functional and cost-effective passenger destination alert system for commercial vehicles (PDSCV) was developed. This designed passenger destination alert system provides solutions to the problems and as well meets the needs of some target groups such as the physically challenged. To solve these challenges, a GPS-based location module interfaced with a microcontroller unit was employed in the hardware prototype design. Destination stations were displayed and announced via an LCD and audio system respectively to generally alert all passengers on board the vehicle. The prototype also includes alert buttons beside every seat which were to be used by passengers in emergencies and to alert the driver to skip a particular terminal provided the bus is fully occupied and no passenger intends to alight. In addition to the hardware prototype, a software application was developed to provide further information to first-time travellers. The test and results from the entire system indicate a bridge in the communication gap between the driver and the passengers of commercial vehicles.

Abstract

Graduates from educational institutions within the foundation of the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School each year can be more than 1000 people. The potential for this critical data has not been supported by good data collection. The data collection process is still done manually. Therefore, the level of accuracy is still fragile. In this study, an index is applied to perform query optimization. The object of this research is the database of the graduate data information system at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Foundation. Data collection method using literature study and interviews. The experimental stage of this research is done by determining the target output by compiling query commands. Each query command is executed ten times to find the average execution time and runs on two different hardware platforms to determine the effect of hardware on the query process. The study results show that the index can be used for data query optimization but only if it is supported by good hardware specifications so that the command execution time is optimal. When only using the index application, the average difference in execution time is 0.5 seconds.

Abstract

Determining the quality of Gayo 1 coffee seeds with manual calculations can affect time efficiency because manual calculations often result in inconsistent and time-consuming calculations. A decision support system is needed to determine the quality of Gayo 1 coffee seeds with consistent and accurate calculations and processed through computational speed. Applying the AHP-WP method can determine the quality of coffee seeds of the Gayo 1 variety at IP2TP Gayo. The discussion that becomes the focus is the application of the AHP method to determine the weight of the coffee seed criteria. The resulting weight can be continued in the calculation of the WP method to determine the quality of the Gayo 1 coffee seed based on the alternative preference value or vector S. The results of the study provide information regarding the quality of coffee seeds that have been tested for quality.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. 80% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries whose fragile health systems are still grappling with a heavy burden of infectious diseases resulting in a duo burden of disease. While early detection increases the survival rate and ensures a favorable prognosis for most NCDs, about 80% of reported cases are detected at an advanced stage when little can be achieved in treatment. A few such patients are directed to palliative care in hospices. Some challenges include low awareness of NCDs' signs and symptoms, poor treatment, and inadequate early detection and monitoring services. Data collection was done through observation, personal experience, and interviews in the Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo population. The collected data was analyzed to identify the system requirements for a computer-based information system that supports the management of NCDs in rural areas. The findings propose an analytical application software that applies correlation and regression analysis techniques to analyze patients' vitals. This is to be used by community health workers/volunteers, administrators in health care facilities, and medical doctors to support the implementation of early interventions to prevent NCDs from getting worse at an avoidable rate. The system was developed based on an Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) approach using the V-Shaped system development methodology. Functional testing was conducted to test the system, and the result for each functionality was successful.

Abstract

The work presented in this paper focuses on developing a load-balanced user association scheme in a single Radio Access Technology (RAT) Heterogeneous Networks (HetNet). The optimization algorithm maximizes network capacity and optimal user association in a planned small cell deployment framework, considering Quality of Service (QoS) and network load balance. Planned deployment of small cells has many advantages, including controlled interference levels within the HetNet. The proposed Branch and Bound (BAB) based algorithms provide a more realistic interference scenario through the non-use of bias in the small cells. The proposed algorithm achieved higher load balancing than current schemes in literature and high spectral efficiency values.
