Abstract

This research has purposed to see the opportunities of developing information services for the public with zero budgets available to deploy professionals. When the capability of library science graduate has questioned; especially for providing information services that require by the society and about the dedication they have to actively support family empowering program through ?Pos Pemberdayaan Keluarga/Posdaya? (Family Empowering Centre). This research will describe the strategy and action undertakes to achieve the effectiveness of information services given towards society information needs. Abstract

Homeschool or family-based education is one form of informal education recognized by the National Education Act in Indonesia. With a wide variety of families running a variety of homeschooling methods, portfolios can be one way to evaluate the learning process of their children at home. The key to build a portfolio is how the portfolio is structured and used in the recordkeeping process of the learning outcomes of everyday children. Therefore, this preliminary study was conducted to get an idea of how homeschool parents aged 7-15 years doing the process of recordkeeping their academic and non-academic activities. Data collection is done by a mixed method. A total of 68 parents responded to an online questionnaire distributed through Facebook and WhatsApp group with the majority having primary school age children (91.2%) and were previously schooled (67.6%) with their daily activities contain academic activities (79.4%) and non-academic (98.1%). In addition, in-depth interviews were also conducted with 6 (six) parents whose children have an interest in sports and the creative worlds. The results showed that almost all respondents recorded their activities by using camera photos for both academic (90.7%) and non-academic activities (86.6%), followed by writings (72.2%) for academic activities, and video recordings (64.2%) for non-academic activities. Obstacles perceived by the respondents generally are (1) consistency of recording and (2) grouping the results of the learning track record in their chosen storage. Although the process of recordkeeping has not been done from the beginning of planning, as the portfolio should be built, from the interviewed respondents, the results of the children>s learning record can be given as material for applying for jobs informally because of the network they have. Nevertheless, 92.6% of respondents stated that they need assistance in preparing the portfolio, such as consultation (76.5%), workshop (76.5%), and seminar (44.1%).

Abstract

Evaluation of the use of journal databases containing the same subject area is indispensable for budget efficiency. The evaluation of database utilization is closely related to the availability of information resources as a citation in the preparation of scientific papers. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The research method used is the method of documentation with the object of research citation/bibliography of Lecturer Research report FEB UGM year 2013-2015. The results showed that core journals majoring in Accounting is the Journal of Accounting and Economics with the largest citation frequency of 91 times; Department of Management Academy of Management Journal with citation frequency 65 times; and American Economics Review with a frequency of citation 21 times is the core title of the Department of Economics. In general, the utilization of EBSCO database ?Business Source Complete? and ProQuest ?ABI/INFORM Complete? as the citation for preparing the research report of FEB UGM lecturer for the period of 2013-2016 has been well utilized. The percentage of e-journal availability in the Business Source Complete database and the ABI/INFORM Collection database cited in the preparation of research report of FEB UGM majoring in Accounting as much as 703 titles (62.8%), Management Department available 655 titles (64.2%) and majors Economics is available 231 titles (44.6%). The ?Business Source Complete? EBSCO database and ProQuest ?ABI/INFORM Collection? are database aggregators that collect multiple journals from several publishers. In addition, the EBSCO Database ?Business Source Complete? provides more economics and business journals than the ProQuest ?ABI/INFORM Collection? database. However, ProQuest database ?ABI/INFORM Collection? is widely used by Lecturer of Management Department in preparing a research report.

Abstract

One aspect of library quality is as ?library as a place?. As the main aspect that influences customer satisfaction, the library as a place needs to get attention from the library including structuring the layout of library facilities. This study aims to determine the layout of library facilities according to the needs of the native digital generation at the Christian Petra University Library. If library facilities are arranged with a good layout, there will be an increase in productivity, work efficiency and will have an impact on customer satisfaction. The Head of the Library and/or structural officials were chosen as respondents because they were more aware of the relationship between the sections and understood the needs of the generation of digital natives currently served. The method used in this study is systematic layout planning by adopting the ARC (Activity Relationship Chart) technique to show the level of importance between departments/sections, and the results will be used as a replacement of flows between departments/sections. CRAFT is used as a computer simulation tool to improve facility layout (re-layout) by minimizing the moment of movement between facilities. The results showed that it was necessary to rearrange Petra?s UK library facilities on each floor, in which the results of this study was surely tested through a questionnaire for students who were digital native generation and were the largest users of the library.

Abstract

This study aims to find out models implementation of the technical interoperability applied and developed on the Digital Library Applications of the Library and Archive Analysis System version 1.0 (LARAS v 1.0) by the Center for Scientific Documentation and Information-Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PDII-LIPI). The other goal of this study is to determine why PDII-LIPI tries to develop LARAS v 1.0 and has changed the previous application of WINISIS. This study was done by using a case study method with qualitative approach. Data was collected by documents analyses and in-depth interviews. This result of the study shows that LARAS v 1.0 was created by developers at PDII-LIPI to avoid the obsolescence of information and technology communication (ITC), in this case, is the digital library application. In fact, the conflicts between the developers and the librarians in developing LARAS v 1.0 still exist. Models implementation of technical interoperability applied to LARAS is a combination of several levels of Level of Information System Interoperability (LISI) model. Nevertheless, in practice, LARAS v 1.0 is still not perfect, especially from the point of view of system development of metadata, encoding, communication protocol, databases, and indexing.
