Abstract

Traditional knowledge and local wisdom related to the utilization of natural resources of the forest developed as a multi-disciplinary in the study of ethnobiology, ethnoecology, ethnoforestry, to ethno-conservation. Unfortunately, in ethnobotany studies, there are publicity gaps in documenting ecological (biological) and cultural (social) aspects in Papua related to community-based conservation management. Therefore, it is important to conduct a study related to the documentation of community-based conservation knowledge in West Papua. The purpose of this research study is to construct ethno-noconstruction of palm plants as material for making traditional bubu by the Maybrat tribe in West Papua. The results of scoping of local knowledge of bubu making and sero making techniques of the Maybrat are part of cognitive symbols that are classified as individual life skills where the conditions are highly dependent on the state of the environment in which they live and the potential of forest resources. The use of palm trees as natural resources and the local knowledge construction process of making traditional bubu as a manifestation of the Maybrat etnotecnoconservation are closely related to people's livelihoods as active and passive fishermen. Local knowledge in the use of palm trees in the process of its formation is not merely a cognitive dimension, but also the dimension of local conservation values in maintaining an environmentally friendly and sustainable fish capture system that should need to be maintained.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the customary community forest of Soug tribe of Arfak in using customary forest resources surrounding Tobou forest. Through the study, how the forest assessed, local culture, forest preservation, transfer knowledge, accessibility, and infrastructure towards the existence of Tobou customary forest. The descriptive method was used to qualitative data. In order to obtain data, interview, and field observation was applied. In terms of customary forest use around Tobou, there were numbers of conserving land types such as garden opening, extracting both, timber and non-timber forest products, important value and trust, co-benefit interaction among social and biophysical co-benefit as a whole ecosystem component and customary role community. It turned out that social bonds among community strata were glaringly seen through customary roles as it has been indicated strongly in Arfak ethnic.

Abstract

Gunung Meja Nature tourist Park is one of the low land tropical forest ecosystems in Manokwari which had various potention of its flora and fauna. The flora potention had relation or complex population, one of them is association between tali kupu-kupu (Bauhinia acuminata Blume.) with its host tree. The purpose of the study was to describe the asociation of B. acuminata with its host tree and its habitat at the low land at Gunung Meja Nature Tourist Park. The method used description with survey technique. The resluts showed that the total population of the trees associating with B. acuminate. There were 10 species i.e. Pometia coreacea, Pometia pinnata, Alstonia scholaris, Artocarpus incissus, Pimelodendron amboinicum, Pterocymbium beccarii, Antiaris toxicaria, Streblus elongate, Medusanthera laxiflora, and Pterygota horsfieldii which dominated by Pometia pinnata 11 trees. The association relation level of B. acuminata with the host tree P. pinnata was very close (2.506 %) while association relation level of B. acuminata was quite close with the host tree of A. scholaris (0.911 %), P. amboinicum (0.911 %), and the association level B. acuminata was not close with the host tree P. coreacea (0.683 %), P. beccarii (0.228 %), A. toxicaria (0.228 %), A. incisus (0.683 %), P. horsfieldii (0.683 %), S. elongata (0.456 %), and M. laxiflora (0.456 %).

Abstract

This study was focusing on identifying types of epiphytic orchid species through field survey by establishing plots and tracks for observation. The main parameter in the study was morphological characteristic of epiphytic orchid that covers shape, root, stem, leaf, fruit, and flower as well as its growing habitat. From the result standpoint, 6 epiphytic orchid species were identified that consisted of Dendrobium bifalce Lindl, Dendrobium mirbelianum Gaudich, Dendrobium schulleri J.J.Sm, Grammatophylum scriptum (Lindl.) Blume, Grammatophylum speciosum Blume, and Pomatocalpa sp aff Marsupial. In addition to their hosted plant, the result found several species of plant such as Mangifera indica, Alstonia scholaris, Baringtonia asicatica, Pometia sp, and Terminalia catappa which their growth was mostly sticking to the main stem and branch.

Abstract
