Walasuji : Jurnal Sejarah dan Budaya is published twice a year and uses double-blind peer review. All submitted articles should report original, previously unpublished research results, experimental or theoretical that are not published and under consideration for publication elsewhere. The publication of submitted manuscripts is subject to peer review, and both general and technical aspects of the submitted paper are reviewed before publication. Manuscripts should follow the style of the journal and are subject to both review and editing. Submissions should be made online via Pangadereng journal submission site. Accepted papers will be available on line and will not be charged a publication fee. Abstract

This research aims to explain and describe the position of TNI-AD in the social stratification community in Koto Lanang Village, Depati Tujuh District, Kerinci Regency. The theory used to analyze the findings in this research is the social stratification theory proposed by Max Weber. According to Weber, the basis of social stratification is characterized by several dimensions, namely the power dimension, the privilege dimension (special rights), and the pretense dimension. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The technique of selecting informants uses purposive sampling. The total number of informants is 30 people. Data are collected through interview, observation, and documentation methods. The result of this research reveals that the position of TNI-AD in the social stratification community in Koto Lanang Village is seen from several dimensions, including: (1) the power dimension, TNI-AD is the spearhead in every activity in Koto Lanang Village. (2) the privilege dimension (special rights), members of TNI-AD are included in a capable and sufficient society seen from an economic field; and (3) the prestige dimension, the people as members of TNI-AD are awarded by their society.

Abstract

Incung letter is one of the scripts used in writing scripts or manuscripts in Kerinci by using various media, one of them is bamboo. The use of bamboo in the tradition of writing in Kerinci is only for texts using incung script. The manuscripts made from bamboo and using incung include mostly literary works in the form of lamentations (karang mindu) that use Kerinci Malay language which is very difficult to understand and very rarely used because few speakers who knows it anymore. Therefore, the author in this paper presents transliteration and translation of several lamentation texts as well as the contents and related meanings. In this paper, the texts with incung script that will be discussed is Wailing Tears Manuscripts collected by Bachtiar Anif Siulak and Manuscript of TK 182 which are analyzed through descriptive analytical methods and philological and codicological approaches. From this research, it can be known that the content of Wailing Tears Manuscript consists of two things, namely the fate of one's life and love lamentations. Both of these manuscripts are written directly by the person who is lamenting and some are written by others at the request of the weeping.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the origins and developments of charitable business for one of the biggest waqf agencies in Indonesia, namely Yayasan Badan Wakaf Sultan Agung (YBWSA). Waqf in Indonesia is not something new. Research on waqf in Indonesia generally issues on regulation and accounting aspects, the historical aspect is rarely issued. In relation to socio-economic problems, the most visible impact of the establishment of YBWSA is to help the government and contribute to improve the people's welfare and their living standard. The result of this research shows that YBWSA is one of the biggest waqf foundations in Indonesia which arose due to the concerns of Islamic leaders in Semarang regarding the education system implemented during the Dutch East Indies government. The waqf received by YBWSA is used for development of educational purposes and it has now expanded to health services

Abstract

This study is the research result which aims to examine the cultural values contained in the dance of pattudduq towaine, either related to the materials and equipment used or the dance movement reflections. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interview, library research as secondary data. The result shows that the dance of pattudduq towaine is one of dances in West Sulawesi which is performed by female dancers with graceful movements. This dance is famous in West Sulawesi and is often performed at various events, such as welcoming events, art performances, and cultural festivals. Several cultural values contain in the materials and equipment in the dance of pattudduq towaine, namely aesthetic value, artistic value (music value), cohesiveness value, and science/knowledge value. Meanwhile, the cultural values reflected on the dance movements of pattudduq towaine include entertainment value, cohesiveness/togetherness value, softness value, aesthetic/beauty value, religious value, personality value, and educational value.

Abstract

The national tragedy in 1965 claimed many victims, either parties related to the Movement of September 30th or their families. Yogyakarta is one of slaughtering acts of "left people" from other triangle areas, Bantul and Gunung Kidul. This study aims to reveal the local events -the Movement of September 30th 1965 in Yogyakarta- by emphasizing oral history so that the substance of history writing at the local level becomes more significant. This study uses qualitative analysis techniques and field research supported by interviews. The result of this study indicates that the destruction of the Movement of 30 September 1965 in Yogyakarta had begun since its inception, but it was still in the form of determination and enthusiasm, not in the form of physical action. However, after ABRI which led by Mayjen Soeharto, succeeded in freeing RRI, the destruction and pursuit of figures, actors, supporters and sympathizers of the Movement of 30th September 1965 was began.

Abstract

This research focuses on Human Rights in Yogyakarta. Seeing ASEAN in cooperation in promoting and protecting Human Rights with Non Government Organizations (NGOs) at the regional level. This research is a research in the discipline of international relations, but this research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques, namely observation and interviews. The results of the study indicate that this form of cooperation does not occur formally but occurs informally. Each organization has a special mechanism for promoting and protecting human rights. These findings constitute a long process of interpretive analysis so as to answer research questions and discover new findings. Cultural factors influence the process of socialization and cooperation in upholding each person's human rights.

Abstract

This study aims to find out one of the traditional series of Bugis marriage, namely mappacci as a medium of community messages in Bone Regency. Research method applied is qualitative research and data collection techniques are in the form of interview, observation, and library study. The result shows that the meanings contained in the process of mappacci are a form of hope and pray for the welfare and happiness of the bride and groom in a summarized word from nine equipment, namely pillow, silk sarong, jackfruit leaves, banana shoots, pacci leaves, rice, candle, pacci holders, brown sugar, and coconut. The Bugis-Bone community maintains their culture from their ancestor and it is hoped that the young generations can preserve the culture. The tradition of culture in Bugis traditional marriage ceremony in Bone Regency contains a life message values and meanings with a goodness. As one of the cultural heritages of archipelago, it is a duty of young generations to care for and preserve the Bugis culture by respecting and appreciating it, maintaining and filtering it from the outside cultures, and growing love to local culture in early ages.

Abstract

This research aims to provide an overview of Torajan social relationship, particularly in 1945-1947 when the Dutch took over the government. Toraja is an area with abundant social history, one of them is its social structure. The existence of society groups living in Toraja are related to one another. The relationship between society in their social life is very important, considering that in their daily lives they impose a class system in treating people in Tana Toraja, even it still survives until now. The method used in this research is the historical method ang the initial data collection uses archival and literature studies. The result of this research indicates that the traditional social life of Toraja with a class system, such as Kaunan or slaves and others, is still ongoing, even though the Dutch has abolished the status of slaves in their administrative areas. Besides, this research also shows that the government group is treated as a separate social group by the local people in Toraja.

Abstract

This article is the research result conducted in Kajang community, Bulukumba Regency, which aims to describe and to analyze the customary violations in marriage that are not in accordance with the rule contained on pasang (message). If there is customary violation in a marriage, the violators will be subject to material and social sanctions in accordance with their violations occurred. This research applies a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques through library study, interview, observation, and documentation. The result study shows that the forms of customary violations in marriage in Kajang community are silariang (eloping), nipitianangngi (pregnancy out of marriage), sexual harassment, and salimara (marriage with different social stratification). These customary violations in marriage are subject to customary sanctions of money and buffalo, while social sanction is nipassalai (excommunicated), either the pairs of marriage or their both family parties. The resolving rule of customary violations in marriage is carried out through customary deliberation attended by the traditional apparatus ammatoa, galla-galla, and the customary violators’ parties.
