Abstract

Introduction: The use of hormonal contraception is one of the most popular contraceptive methods among women. However, it has side effects. Mastalgia is a side effect experienced by 70% of women of childbearing age. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between hormonal contraceptive use and the incidence of mastalgia in hormonal contraceptive users. Methods: This study employed an analytical correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 73 hormonal contraceptive acceptors. Using simple random sampling, 62 respondents were selected for participation in the study. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of respondent characteristics, contraceptive history, and mastalgia complaints. The questionnaire was reviewed by experts to establish content validity before data collection. then tabulated and analyzed using the test contingency coefficient with significance level (P-Value) = < 0.05. Results: Most respondents at Muhammadiyah Kedungpring Primary Clinic used injectable hormonal contraceptive methods. 3 months combination, Most respondents experienced mastalgia and there was a relationship between the use of hormonal contraception and the occurrence of mastalgia with (P-Value) = 0.000 (0.000 < 0.05) This means that there is a relationship between the use of hormonal contraception and the occurrence of mastalgia in hormonal contraception acceptors at the Muhammadiyah Kedungpring Primary Clinic with a correlation value of 0.422 (moderate/sufficient). Conclusion: Based on the research results above, it can be recommended that every health worker who provides hormonal contraception can inform the patients about its impacts, especially mastalgia, so that they can adapt to these complaints. Abstract

Introduction: Syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness caused by a transient reduction in cerebral blood flow and is commonly experienced by adolescents in school settings. Syncope may result in injuries due to falls and requires prompt and appropriate first aid management. Youth Red Cross (Palang Merah Remaja/PMR) members play an important role in providing first aid at school; however, their knowledge and practical skills in managing syncope vary considerably. This study aimed to analyze the effect of syncope first aid training on the knowledge and practice of PMR students. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 25 PMR students from SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondanglegi selected through total sampling. The intervention was syncope first aid training delivered through lectures, demonstrations, and practical simulations. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire, while practice was evaluated using an observation checklist based on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for syncope first aid. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α < 0.05. Results: Prior to the training, most participants demonstrated a moderate level of knowledge (44%) and a passing level of practice (56%). Following the training, the proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 20% to 44%, while the proportion achieving a passing practice score increased from 56% to 72%. The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant effect of the training on both knowledge (p = 0.000) and practice (p = 0.004). Conclusion: Syncope first aid training was effective in improving the knowledge and practical skills of PMR students in managing syncope incidents. Educational programs combined with practical simulations are recommended to enhance students’ preparedness and competence in providing first aid in school environments. Abstract

Introduction: Menopause occurs in women between ages of 45 and 55. It’s normal phase for women, marked by cessation of menstruation due to decreased estrogen and progesterone levels. This causes blood vessels to become less elastic and triggers an increase in blood pressure. Hypertension can occur in menopausal women due to hormonal changes. One contributing factor is a history of hormonal contraceptive use. This study aims to determine the relationship between a history of hormonal contraceptive use and the incidence of hypertension in menopausal women. Methods: This study used an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. Population was 134 postmenopausal women with a history of hormonal contraceptive use. Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique, with 101 menopausal women selected. Variables studied were the type and duration of hormonal contraceptive use and the incidence of hypertension. The research instruments were questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Spearman test with SPSS 25 software. Results: The study showed a significant association between the type of hormonal contraceptive (p=0.000; r=0.618) and  incidence of hypertension in menopausal women. Variable duration of hormonal contraceptive use (p=0.000; r=0.513) was associated with the incidence of hypertension in menopausal women. Therefore, hormonal contraceptive use (type and duration of use) is associated with the risk of hypertension in menopausal women. Conclusion: Health education regarding contraceptive method selection, especially hormonal contraception, and duration of use is crucial. Health workers play a role in assisting in the selection of appropriate contraception. Keywords: Contraception, Hormone, Hypertension and Menopause

Abstract

Introduction: Menarche is a significant milestone in female adolescent development, often accompanied by unpreparedness and anxiety due to limited knowledge and understanding. Such anxiety may negatively impact psychological well-being and daily functioning. This study aims to examine the effect of health education delivered through animated videos on readiness and anxiety related to menarche among 4th–6th grade female students. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed. The population consisted of all 49 female students in grades 4 to 6, with 36 participants selected using purposive sampling. Instruments included a menarche readiness questionnaire and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), with data analyzed using the paired t-test. Results: Prior to the intervention, all participants (100%) were unprepared to face menarche. Following the intervention, 66.7% of the students were categorized as prepared. In terms of anxiety, 88.9% of students initially experienced severe anxiety, whereas post-intervention results showed that 66.7% exhibited no anxiety symptoms. Statistical analysis revealed a significant increase in readiness and a reduction in anxiety levels, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that animated video-based health education had a significant effect. Conclusion: This method proved effective in enhancing students’ preparedness and reducing anxiety regarding menarche. As such, it is recommended as an engaging and accessible educational strategy at the primary school level. Keywords: Animated Videos; Anxiety; Health Education; Menarche; Readiness
