Abstract

Background. Indonesia based on its geographical, geological, hydrological and demographic conditions is prone to disasters. Pre-disaster preparedness in health services are very important phases in reducing the impact of a disaster. Nurses are health workers with the largest number in a hospital, and have an important role in a disaster. The purpose of this study was to explore nurses’ perception regarding disaster preparedness in referral hospitals in disaster-prone areas in Indonesia. Methods. This study was a cross-sectional study. The cluster random sampling technique was used in the recruitment of 217 respondents from 4 referral hospitals in Indonesia. Self-report questioner were utilized and it was modified from Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool (DPET) and Emergency Prepardeness information Questionairre (EPIQ). Univariate and bivariate analyses were applied to describe the data. Results. The mean age of the respondents was 37.6 ± 8.9 years and the average length of service was 14 years ± 9.6 years. Respondents were mostly female, had vocational education level, were married, worked in wards, worked as clinical nurse, had no disaster experience but worked in hospitals that had experienced disasters. The average of nurses’ perception of disaster preparedness is 2.68 ± 0.32. Respondents have attended 88.5% BHD training, 76.5% APAR, 60.8% fire simulation and 42.4% earthquake simulation. Disaster experiences and research locations influence the disaster preparedness of nurses in referral hospitals in Indonesia. There were no statistically significant differences in nurses’ preparedness for disasters on gender, education level, marital status, place of work, position. Conclusion. Nurses’ experience in dealing with disasters increases the perception of disaster preparedness among nurses. Therefore, regular training and simulations are required in the health services of disaster-prone areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background. Sleep is a basic human need that has to be fulfilled as a fundamental of physiological part, but mostly need of sleep not fulfil enough and have a bad sleep quality. There are numerous factors that affect someone sleep quality, those are age, gadget, nomophobia, and physical activity. This research purposed to predict the most influential variable of sleep quality among nursing students. Methods. This cross-sectional study aimed to predict the influential variable that affect sleep quality among nursing students. Regression analysis to 80 respondents that selected by simple random sampling from students batch 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 had done to examine the determinant of sleep quality nursing students. Results. From four predictors that used in this research, only nomophobia (p=0,001) which had a significant correlation to sleep quality by partial t test. Simultaneous F test indicated that all variable were significantly correlated with sleep quality (p=0,004) and coefficient determination 18,1% . Simple linear regression with nomophobia and sleep quality get significant result (p=0,001) and coefficient determination 0,171. Conclusion. Nomophobia is a determinant variable of sleep quality among nursing academic community. Sleep problem among nursing students around a fifth affected by nomophobia. It is suggested to nursing student aware of their anxiety to gadget because it might help for better sleep quality.

Abstract

Background. To date, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a major problem in all countries of the world. Indonesia registered as a country with a significant drop in cases. The highest percentage of outcomes in COVID-19 survivors were fatigue and shortness of breath. Medical rehabilitation therapy for COVID-19 survivors is critically needed to maintain and improve quality of life by preventing or reducing the development of functional impairment and disability and by ameliorating and reducing complications. Methods. Quasi-experimental research design with pretest-posttest design on COVID-19 survivors. The sample is 120 respondents consisting of 60 respondents in the Deep Breathing group and 60 respondents in the Prone position group. Results. The study showed that there was a significant difference in oxygen saturation value (ρ value 0.004 < 0.05) between the Deep Breathing and the Prone in COVID-19 survivors. Conclusion. There is a significant difference (ρ 0.004) in oxygen saturation values in COVID-19 survivors who are given Deep Breathing and Prone position.

Abstract

Background. The stress response can be experienced by anyone when something unpleasant, uncomfortable, or disturbing to someone's peace occurs. This is often experienced by some final-year students, who are required to be able to complete their final project (thesis) as a graduation requirement. Conditions felt by students such as feelings of anxiety, worry, lack of enthusiasm, excessive fatigue, feeling left behind by friends who are already at a faster stage, and difficulties in completing the final assignment (thesis) can cause a stress response. Aim. This study aim to identify the stress level of nursing students in the preparation of the final project. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) questionnaire. Data collection was carried out by filling out a questionnaire that consisted of 2 parts, namely demographic data and the stress level variable experienced by the respondent within the last month. The sample in this study was 131 students who were taking thesis courses. The sampling technique is total sampling. Results. The results showed that 23 students were completing their final assignment (thesis) with low stress (17.6%), 106 respondents with moderate stress (80.9%), and 2 respondents with heavy stress (1.5%). Conclusion. The majority of students who are completing their final project (thesis) experience moderate stress. This shows that they feel an inconvenience or a burden but must still complete their duties to achieve a bachelor's degree.

Abstract

Background: Health and intelligence are two important things to increase knowledge in education. The physical health will support psychology health to increase motivation. The aims of the research are to correlational analysis on aerobic gymnastics the students’ physical fitness and their learning motivation at STIKES Hang Tuah Surabaya. Method: the research design is correlational analysis with cross sectional approach. The number of population are 58 with a sample of 50 was taken by simple random sampling. Univariate data were analyzed usingg the frequency distribution. Bivariate data were tested by using spearman rank with alpha <0.05. Results: The statistical test with spearman ranks showed a significant relationship between the aerobic gymnastic and the students’s physical fitness with p value of 0.022. There is a significant relationship between the aerobic gymnastic and their learning motivation with a p value of 0.027 which is smaller than alpha 0.05. Conclussion: The aerobic gymnastic is able to optimize the suplly, intake and oxygen use in forming ATP which has an impact on students’s physical fitness and their learning motivation.
