Abstract

The present article constitutes an update on the findings of earlier researchers. Its strong point lies in its interrogation of issues by employing social science theories of power in addition to theories of religion at appropriate places. In the process, triumphs and problems relating to da‘wah are revealed. There is also the incongruity between the commitments demanded by Islam and the existential truth of Muslims. This applies particularly to governance and democracy issues. Despite shortcomings, da‘wah continues apace. Possible solutions to these problems are presented at the end of this article.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the program implementation model conducted by Working Group IV, one of the Working Groups formed in SILE project of Makassar by considering the gender equality initiation of Cambaya’s community activities. One of the important results in ABCD approach is the establishment of Core Group derived from Cambaya own society. The group then organizes the society in advocating policies of institutions related to the public participation in public service. The entire processes of the activity stages are still controlled together by considering the aspect of gender equality. Generally, the practice of gender equality in the society has developed the awareness of respect and equality patterns in the societies’ daily activities and public services in the environment of Cambaya sub-district. The group was very actively in conducting the society mediation and mentoring related to the woman empowerment, the issues of domestic violence, the issues of child protection, and very actively help to mediate with the law enforcement officials when there were community members who had problems with the law.

Abstract

The Quba mosque which was constructed by Prophet Mohammed in 622 A.D constitute the best example of the mosque for the members of the Moslem community and for all the next generations. Its design features cover the following : Its construction was based on “Takwa” (devotion) to Allah. Simply, it means it was constructed by using local technology and local building material. There is clarity of function and objective in the plan, and its activities for ibadah (religious) and muamallah (social) function. But after the Prophet Mohammed passed away (633 A.D.), Mosques have been developed in a conventional manner not in accord whit what was exemplified by the prophet when he constructed the Quba mosque any more. Therefore, in designing a mosque, it should incorporate the Main basis Philosophy which is in accordance with Qur’an and Hadits. The most important is the construction of mosque should be based on “Takwa” (devotion) to Allah only.

Abstract

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach has gained popularity as one methodology used in Community-Driven Development (CDD) in approaching the desired change in our left behind local community in Indonesia generally and South Sulawesi specifically. UIN Alauddin as a higher education institution has one responsibility among the three assignments not only to teach and to do research but also to serve the community. In strengthening this function, UIN plans to implement more persistently students and teaching staffs community service with the ABCD approach. This paper discusses the ABCD approach and how it had been implemented for the above purpose. We evaluate how the assigned working group (pokja) from UIN had tried to implement this in Selayar Island and a student community service using this ABCD approach in the specific field of community health in Bantaeng. Finally we list the opportunities and challenges from the discussion to propose a better recommendation for future implementation of this ABCD for the local context in South Sulawesi.
