Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) culture produces waste in the form of leftover feed that can reduce water quality. One approach to improving water quality is the use of the aquatic plant Lemna sp. for phytoremediation. However, Lemna sp. growth requires sufficient nutrients; therefore, liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from goat manure was applied. This study aimed to determine the optimal dose of goat manure LOF for Lemna sp. biomass production in snakehead fish culture water. The study was conducted from September to October 2025 at the Integrated Laboratory of Marine Sciences, Universitas Riau. A completely randomized design with five treatments and three replicates was used. Treatments were P0 (control), P1 (0,5 mL/L), P2 (1,0 mL/L), P3 (1,5 mL/L), and P4 (2,0 mL/L). The results showed that goat manure LOF significantly affected Lemna sp. biomass (P < 0.05). The best treatment was P4, producing the highest biomass (362.58 g/m²) and specific growth rate (6.56%). Application of goat manure LOF also supported snakehead fish growth, resulting in a final mean weight of 3.20 g, mean length of 3.88 cm, daily weight gain of 2.60 g/day, and survival rate of 98%. In total organic matter ranged from 16.43–55.72 mg/L, nitrate 0.1813–10.0229 mg/L, phosphate 0.6991–5.1416 mg/L, CO₂ 5–18 mg/L, DO 4.10–5.21 mg/L, pH 6.2–7.4, and temperature 27.1–28.9°C. These findings indicate that goat manure LOF at 2.0 mL/L effectively increases Lemna sp. biomass, promotes phytoremediation, and improves snakehead fish growth and survival.

Abstract

The growth of gurami fish larvae (Osphronemus gouramy Lac.) is often hindered by a limited supply of natural feed such as silkworms. Fermented paste feed supplemented with moringa leaf meal (Moringa oleifera) is expected to serve as an alternative feed that can reduce dependence on silkworms. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of fermented paste feed supplemented with moringa leaf meal (MLM) on the growth and survival of gurami fish larvae. The study was conducted over 40 days using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of six treatments with three replicates: P1 (0 g/kg MLF), P2 (20 g/kg MLF), P3 (40 g/kg MLF), P4 (60 g/kg MLF), P5 (80 g/kg MLF), and P6 (Tubifex sp.). The results showed that the addition of moringa leaf flour had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on absolute weight gain, absolute length gain, specific growth rate, and survival rate of gurami fish larvae. The best results were obtained in treatment P4 (60 g/kg TDK), with an absolute weight gain of 0.37 g, an absolute length gain of 1.58 cm, a specific growth rate of 8.36%/day, and a survival rate of 88.87%. Water quality parameters during the study remained within the optimal range, with temperatures ranging from 26.1–27.9 °C, a pH of 6.6–7.1, and dissolved oxygen levels of 5.2–6.6 mg/L.

Abstract

This study was conducted from May to July 2026 in the Panai Hilir and Panai Tengah subdistricts of Labuhanbatu Regency. The objective of this study was to analyze the sustainability status of mantis shrimp (Harpiosquilla raphidea) resource management in the waters of Labuhanbatu, North Sumatra Province, using the . The research methods employed included secondary data analysis and a sample survey. The data were analyzed using Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) through the RAPFISH (Rapid Assessment Technique for Fisheries) approach. Analysis of the sustainability status of mantis shrimp resource management using RAPFISH-Hamdangtis revealed that the average sustainability index value for mantis shrimp, based on five dimensions (environmental, mantis shrimp resource, facilities and technology, social and economic, and institutional and governance). The mantis shrimp resource in the waters of Labuhanbatu is considered unsustainable, with a value of 42.82 (<50). The environmental dimension showed the lowest score, indicating that habitat quality and ecosystem conditions are priority areas for management intervention. A plan to improve the sustainability of mantis shrimp management in the waters of Labuhanbatu, North Sumatra Province can leverage dimensions classified as relatively sustainable such as substrate deposition, hydro-oceanographic conditions, coastal degradation, until relevant regulations to address and improve less sustainable aspects

Abstract

The african catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is one of the freshwater aquaculture species susceptible to ectoparasite infestations. This study aimed to identify the types of ectoparasites and determine the infestation levels in african catfish farmed in Sungai Raya Subdistrict, Kubu Raya Regency. The study was conducted from February to March 2026 using a survey method with purposive random sampling. A total of 95 catfish from five aquaculture sites were examined for mucus, fins, and gills using wet mount preparation and microscopic observation. Data were analyzed descriptively by calculating prevalence, intensity, and dominance. The results showed that African catfish were infected by three types of ectoparasites Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp., and Trichodina sp. with a total of 209 parasite individuals. Dactylogyrus sp. was the most dominant ectoparasite, with prevalence values ranging from 26.32–36.84% and dominance values ranging from 36.17–64.52%. Ectoparasite intensity values ranged from 2.33–6.00 individuals per fish, indicating a low to moderate level of infestation. Water quality parameters during the study remained within the optimal range for catfish farming. The presence of ectoparasites is believed to be influenced by environmental conditions and farming management practices. The results of this study can serve as baseline information for monitoring fish health and controlling diseases in African catfish farming
