Abstract

Cross infection is the transfer of microorganisms that can occur from individual to individual or an object. COVID 19 is an infectious disease that can cause cross-infection in dentistry. One example is making a working model of gypsum material which can cause cross-infection from patients to dentists or technicians, so it is necessary to control infection by mixing sodium hypochlorite disinfectant solution into type III gypsum material (dental stone). This study aims to determine the effect of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant solution on the compressive strength of dental stones. The reduction in the compressive strength of type III gypsum mixed with sodium hypochlorite can be associated with a reduction in cohesion between crystals which may also affect the ability of the crystals to interlock, causing improper braiding and a reduction in cohesion between the crystals themselves and the presence of changes. which arises due to the formation of salts with low solubility when in large concentrations so that it can change the crystallization nucleus and consequently can affect the product properties of gypsum, this occurs due to the administration of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant solution with high concentrations so that it can significantly reduce the strength press on gypsum type III (dental stone) Sodium hypochlorite solution is not recommended to be used with the mixing technique because it can reduce the compressive strength of type III gypsum material (dental stone) and a good concentration of sodium hypochlorite is 3%.

Abstract

Bioactive cements are used widely in dentistry, especially in restorative and endodontic field. Bioactive cement can induce response from living tissue, organism, or cells by hydroxyapatite layers formation when in contact with tissue fluid. Despite of its benefit, bioactive cements use as root canal medicament can caused dentinal collagen damage that can lead to tooth fracture. This literature study objective is to analyse dentinal flexural strength after bioactive cements exposure by literature study. Literature study results show that every bioactive cement exposure can decrease dentin flexural strength that can lead to root canal treatment failure. Bioactive cement composition that effect dentin flexural strength in long term use is Calcium Hydroxide. Long term clinical test of bioactive cement from different generation need to be evaluated on next study.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world’s resin producers with high species variability. During this time, natural resins that are widely used and circulating in the market are resin damar mata kucing and resin damar batu. Both of these resins damar come from different types of trees and harvesting methods. The research aims to determine the differences in the value of the hardness of the two resins, so that it can be considered of the resin damar uses as basic materials in dentistry. Hardness test was performed on 16 resin samples of resin damar mata kucing and 16 resin samples of resin damar batu using the Shore Hardness Tester (Shore D Durometer) method based on ASTM D2240. From the results of the study obtained an average value of resin damar mata kucing hardness is 35 Hard Durometer, while the average value of resin damar batu hardness is 43 Hard Durometer. Its can be caused by different types of trees and how they are harvested. Resin damar batu are fossilized sap and obtained from Shorea eximia trees by means of collection from the ground. In general, resin damar batu is blackish brown. Meanwhile, yellowish-clear resin damar mata kucing is a resin damar that has less ash and dirty content, because of the way of harvesting is done by tapping directly on the Shorea javanica trees. So, resin damar batu have a higher hardness value than resin damar mata kucing. It can be concluded that resin damar mata kucing and resin damar batu have different values of hardness, which have potentiality as basic materials in dentistry.

Abstract

The bond resistance of caries-affected dentin is questionable compared to healthy dentin. This is caused by partial demineralization resulting in loss of integrity of the hybrid layer by collagenolytic enzymes, namely matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). This enzyme is responsible for the degradation of the collagen matrix in the hybrid layer. Based on this, new strategies have been used in which the use of flavonoids as exogenous crosslinking agents has been suggested as a method to inhibit MMP activity, such as Quercetin, Hesperidin, Rutin and Naringin. In addition, partially demineralized dentine is remineralized to improve its mechanical or bonding properties using a remineralizing agent. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effect of pre-treatment of dentin using various flavonoids and remineralizing agents. The effects of pre-treated dentin will be discussed in this review both with flavonoids, remineralizing agents and their use together. Conclusion: The effect of pre-treated dentin using various flavonoids and remineralizing agents can increase the strength of the resin-dentin bond.

Abstract

The most important criteria for dental materials is durability and compatibility with opposing structures in using. Ceramics is used in making restoration due to obtain the estretic factor. There are several restorations obtained by using ceramics such as all porcelain crown, porcelain fused to metal, ceramic inlay, onlay dan veneers. Ceramics have brittle properties but however they have a good surface hardness properties. Ceramic restoration face the antagonist tooth or other restoration in the oral cavity during mastication. Higher surface hardness of ceramic restoration than the hardness of teeth or restoration materials causing wear of teeth or other materials used. Otherwise the lower surface hardness of ceramic will cause damage on ceramic restoration due to its brittle properties. In this paper the result of researchs related to the surface hardness of ceramics is also presented.
