This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design to the eleventh grade students of SMK Harapan Mekar 2 Medan. The sample of this study was 27 students. The instruments used to collect the data are observation, interview, and questionnaires. The results of interview and observations are the lack of student motivation to learn English because they think English is difficult and boring. However, after the animation movie was applied, students' motivation to learn English was increased and they were enthusiastic in learning. Based on the results of the questionnaires, the researcher concluded that the motivation of eleventh grade students of SMK Harapan Mekar 2 Medan in learning English by using animation movie was at the 'reasonable' level who with an average student score of 73%. The data showed that only one student has an 'Extraordinary' motivation with a score of 88, eight students have a 'Good' score of 78-88, seventeen students have a 'fair' score of 64-75, and one student has a 'bad' score with a score of 61. Based on the results of the questionnaires, the students responses in learning English by using animation movie is very positive.

This research is discussing about the language that is used most in the names of advertisements on certain areas in Medan. In this era of globalization, many Indonesian people are already good in English, as English as a global language, so it is found some people use English in their activities. Many people use English for the names of their shops, restaurants, hotels, etc. as their advertisement to attract people to get their products. The writer is interested to know about the most language used in some certain areas in Medan. There are some purposes of this research. They are to get the certainty about the percent of Indonesian language usage on advertisements’ names; to get the certainty about the percent of English language usage on advertisements’ names; to get the certainty about the percent of both Indonesian language usage and English language usage on the same advertisements’ names. Here the writer found some results that there are advertisements that using Indonesian language, and some of them using English language and the rest are using both languages they are English language and Indonesian language. The writer is very happy for the result of this research that most of Medan people use Indonesian language for their advertisements.

The integration of learning in the classroom with character education is the main agenda of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. The development of learning methods in the classroom integrated with character education is a challenge for teachers today. Various researches on the development of character education have been carried out, but no one has specifically analyzed the integration of character education in Maritime English learning. The purpose of this study is to increase a top to bottom comprehension of character improvement as seen from the development of learning methods that have been integrated with character values. The research used is qualitative. The method used in this research was classroom action research (CAR). The conclusion from the results of this study is the improvement of the character of students in the classroom in Maritime English learning can be done by choosing the right learning method. On the other hand, the material in the syllabus and lesson plan (RPP) is very helpful for the teacher in arranging the methods, discussions, strategies and learning media needed while in the classroom. Students gave positive respond to changes in learning and learning methods used by teachers.

The objective of this study was to investigate whether listening to English songs significantly improve students’ English pronunciation by conducting Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was the second grade of SMP Swasta Harvard Martubung which consisted of 30 students and was conducted in two cycles. The instrument of collecting data was quantitative data Sound Production Test (Test Produksi Suara) and qualitative data (observation sheet). Based on data analysis, the score of students’ Sound Production Test improved in every test. In the result of students’ tests were showed that the mean score of pre-test was 52,3. The mean score of post-test in Cycle I was 65,7. The mean score of post-test in Cycle II was 81,2. Based on observation sheet, it was found that teaching learning process ran well. After giving the treatment by listening to English songs, the students’ English Pronunciation in pronouncing English words improved. It was concluded that listening to English songs can improve the students’ English Pronunciation.

This research was conducted at Mts AL-Washliyah Medan. The background of this research is base on the fact that the second grade of students AL-Washliyah Medan, teacher still used conventional methods and students achievement is still low and needs to be improved. The use of Puzzle Game as a method is very effective and can increase students motivation in learning. Students more interested and happy when learning English. The Objectives of this study were as follows: To describe the increase in students’ vocabulary by using Puzzle Game for seacond grade of Mts- AL-Washliyah Medan, to determine the increase in students’ vocabulary after using the Puzzle Game. And the results showed that in the pre-cycle the students score was 63,2. In cycle I the students score was 66,8. In cycle II, the students score was 73,2. There has been an increase in students’ vocabulary skills in each cycle. Using Puzzle Game can make students more interested and motivated in learning. The conclusion, Puzzle Game was effectived for improving students’ vocabulary.

The purposes of the research are to know the students’ error on using lexicogrammatical features in writing explanation text ability at the Fourth Semester of English Department of Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan and to know why the students made errors in using lexicogrammatical features in writing explanation text ability. The method which is used in this research is mixed method. The informants of this research are the fourth semester of English department which consisted of 15 students that was taken by using purposive sampling. Purposive sampling is used to get the informants by using certain criteria, where in this research the writer got the informants by error criteria. The instruments are used in this research are test, observation and interview. The lexicogrammatical features error analysis of students has done into three elements, they are: simple present tense, conjunction and passive voice. The result of data description shows that simple present tense was the error which most dominant that is made by the students. It took 63.0% of the total errors. Moreover, 23.0% error in conjunction used and 13.8% errors in passive voice. The causes of students’ errors in using lexicogrammatical features are lack of understanding about simple present tense, conjunction and passive voice; lack of awareness; interference of first language; carelessness (lack of motivation) and translation

The objectives of this research find out whether there is a significant effect of using genius learning strategy on student’s ability in writing descriptive texts. This research belongs to descriptive quantitative design to the eighth grade students of SMP Swasta Pelita Medan. The data was obtained using pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was given to both groups before treatment and post-test was given after treatment. The writer uses Genius Learning strategy as method to support students produce a descriptive text. The result of the study are; the value of the tobs was 9.741 the degree of freedom (df) is 28 at the level significance 0.05 is 1.701. It means the value of tobs is higher than ttable, the Alternative Hypotheses (Ha) is accepted and the Null hypotheses (Ho) is rejected. The researcher concluded that The Genius learning strategy significantly affects the ability of writing descriptive text to the eighth grade at SMP Swasta Pelita Medan.The writer suggests for the students of English Education Department should use the genius learning strategy as it has already been proven effective to improve student’s ability on writing.

Pandemic Covid-19 is still on going in all over the world right now. This influences many things, education system, one of examples. Therefore, teachers should deal with the distance learning because of the pandemic. So that this research addresses to explore the portrait of EFL teacher in online learning during pandemic Covid-19. The particant in this research is an English teacher and and the site of the research is in State Senior High School Number 8 Jambi. The researcher uses case study qualitative research method design. Researcher collects the data through in-depth interview and uses interview protocol to guide the interview. The form of the questions is semi-structured interview which meant that researcher can prolong the interview question during its process of doing the interview with the participant. Findings of the research are explained through some primary themes, they are 1) Teacher’s burnout in online learning, 2) Teachers’ challenges and difficulties in online learning, and 3) Teachers’ solutions to overcome the problems appeared in online learning. Also, there are both positive and negative portrait of online learning in terms of the systems, students’ motivations, and students’ learning objectives.

This study was intended to find out whether or not there was any significant difference between the students who were taught by using chart game and those who were not. The population of this research was the fifth graders of One State Primary School Banyuasin academic year 2018/2019 with the total number of 58 students. For the sample, the writer took two classes by using purposive sampling based on the same amount of students: V A (29 students) and V B (29 students). The method used in this study was quantitative with quasi experimental method design. Then, the data were collected from vocabulary test. Researcher did 10 meetings along the research, 1 meeting for pre-test, 8 meetings for treatment, and the rest 1 meeting for post test. Post test result showed that mean of experimental group was 79.10 and mean of control group was 68.14. After being calculated by using independent sample t-test, it was found that value of t-obtained 5.564. It was higher than the critical value of t-table 2.003. Meanwhile, the values of significant (2-tailed) was .000. It indicated that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, there was significant difference between the fifth graders who were taught by using chart game and those who were not.
