Abstract

Background : Dysmenorrhea is a menstrual syndrome disorder that generally occurs in women of reproductive age before or during menstruation in a form of pain and discomfort around the pelvis, lower abdomen, and back. One of dysmenorrhea factors is the lack of daily physical activity (sedentary lifestyle). Sedentary lifestyle can cause ischemia that blocks the blood flow to the reproductive organs and the production of endorphins which help in reducing pain during menstruation. Objective: To find out the correlation between sedentary lifestyle and the dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students, Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University.Method: This study used a quantitative method by applying a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were 107 midwifery students. The sampling used a purposive sampling technique with the result of 85 respondents. The univariate data analysis used frequency distribution, while the bivariate analysis used Spearman Rank test with ????-value < 0.05.Research result : The result showed that the majority of midwifery students of Medical Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, with low sedentary lifestyle were 52 respondents (61.2%) and the majority of the students with low dysmenorrhea intensity were 53 respondents (63%). There was a significant and strong connection between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrhea intensity among midwifery students (ρvalue=0.000) and (r=0.930). The positive value of the correlation showed a unidirectional relation between two variables where the higher sedentary lifestyle was, the higher dysmenorrhea intensity that would be experiencedConclusion : There is a correlation between sedentary lifestyle and dysmenorrheaintensity. Keywords: Sedentary Lifestyle, Dysmenorrhea

Abstract

Background: Health workers are social beings who have personal perceptions and opinions about standards of sexual normality. Sexual minorities are vulnerable in accessing health services. Minority groups in Singapore are considered as criminals and are not generally accepted by society and health workers such as doctors. Whereas in Taiwan, although the government has legalized same-sex marriage, minority groups still experience rejection by the community and health workers such as nurses. This is due to stigma, homophobia and heterosexism. Aim: Reviewing literature that discusses health workers' attitudes of sexual minorities in providing health services. Methods: Preparation of the scoping review according to the framework of H. Arksey & L. O'Malley.  Results: Based on 3 selected articles with a cross sectional study design. The results of the study revealed themes that were grouped based on the factors supporting positive attitudes and causing negative attitudes of health workers in Taiwan and Singapore towards homosexuality. Conclusion: Health workers have two different attitudes towards sexual minority groups; health workers who have a positive attitude supported by adherence to the code of ethics, level of social tolerance, and religiosity status of health workers. And health workers who have a negative attitude caused by education level and age, religious status, and socio-demographic factors.

Abstract

Background: Bronchopneumonia, one of the variants of pneumonia that commonly affects the bronchi and alveoli, especially in toddlers, is often caused by exposure to cigarette smoke in the surrounding environment. In 2019, there were 2,157 cases of bronchopneumonia in toddlers in Aceh Province. The presence of family members who smoke increases the risk of bronchopneumonia in toddlers because cigarette smoke can disrupt lung defense mechanisms. This research aims to determine the influence of family members' smoking behavior on the incidence of bronchopneumonia in toddlers in the pediatric ward of RSUD dr. H. Yuliddin Away Tapaktuan, South Aceh. Methods: This research design is quantitative with a cross-sectional study approach. The study population consisted of 71 toddlers, with 41 respondents selected as samples using purposive sampling technique. The study was conducted from February 7 to 15, 2024, using interview instruments and examination sheets to assess bronchopneumonia criteria. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Results: The research findings indicate that the average family members of toddlers who smoked the most were the toddlers' parents, with a percentage of 56%, and smoking habits indoors reached 68.3%, while the proximity of smokers to toddlers reached 90.2%. The chi-square test analysis showed the influence of family members' smoking behavior on the incidence of bronchopneumonia in toddlers, with a p-value of 0.007 (< α = 0.05).Conclusion: The smoking behavior of family members can cause respiratory disorders in toddlers and thus increasing the risk of bronchopneumonia
