Abstract

Ambient air pollution is one of the problems that have an impact on public health globally. Dust (PM10 and PM2.5) is one that has a major contribution to health. The concentration of dust will affect public health, especially short-term respiratory system disorders. This research aims to measure dust concentration in Bandung Regency and its risks to public health. This dust concentration measurement was carried out for 3 time periods (morning, afternoon, and evening) in 3 sub-districts based on differences in land use (agricultural, residential, and industrial). Public health data were obtained based on a questionnaire on perception of respiratory system disorders suffered by the community. The results of the measurement of dust concentration showed that the concentrations of dust respectively the highest were industrial sector, agricultural sector, and residential sector. In the industrial sector, PM2.5 and PM10 obtained were considered to exceed the quality standard, while the agricultural and residential sectors still met the quality standard. Correlation analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between dust concentrations on perception of respiratory system disorders. Comparative analysis of dust concentrations showed a significant difference between dust concentrations in one sector and another. Based on prevalence ratio analysis, it was found that the concentration of dust increased the possibility of respiratory system disorders by 1.091 times. HQ calculation showed 1.835 which indicates there is a possibility the adverse effects of dust concentration in the area will occur.

Abstract

In Indonesia, water refill stations expanded as private entrepreneurs sought to provide drinking water while making a profit. Refilling stations must guarantee that the drinking water meets quality and sanitation hygiene requirements. This paper attempts to link the perceptions and behaviours of refilled water vendors with the physical quality of the water they sell. The study is focused on 66 refill stations in urban Bandung, Indonesia. We measured total dissolved solids (TDS) as a proxy of the physical quality of refill water (Y). We also assessed the producers' perceptions (X1) and behaviours (X2) using questionnaires and a sanitary checklist. To determine the correlation of producers’ and X2 with Y, a Rank Spearman analysis was conducted using SPSS IBM© ver.26. The results show that there is a significant relationship and negative correlation between the respondent's behaviours and the physical quality of the refill drinking water it produces (Y) (p = 0.010; r = -0.314). Targeted education on refill water station owners will be beneficial in maintaining and improving their perceptions of the good practices of drinking water production, which will enhance the quality of water produced to safeguard public health.

Abstract

Indonesia have achieved 79,53% access to improved and safely managed sanitation in 2020. The government has mandated an improvement in sanitation access to 90% through National Mid-Term Development Plan in order to fulfill 100% access to water and sanitation as stated in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The province of Bali was able to achieve improved sanitation access up to 89%, but it is not yet safely managed. One of the government's efforts to achieve safely managed sanitation is through the implementation of septic tank regular desludging program named the Scheduled Faecal Sludge Service (SFSS) system. This research aims to formulate SFSS implementation strategy by assessing user aspect (Willingness to Pay/WTP and Ability to Pay/ATP), financial aspect, and technology aspect. The research methodology used are interview using questionnaires for user aspect; Interactive Septage Management toolkit for financial aspect; and technology audit method combined with pairwise comparison method for technology aspect. Strength-Weakness-opportunity-Threat (SWOT) analysis was used to provide recommendation for implementation strategy. Questionnaires were given to 100 respondents who live in Kuta District and it was found that 87.13% strongly agree with SFSS program, WTP is Rp. 9.110,- and ATP is Rp. 30.050,-. Financial aspect analysis result shows service rate of Rp. 9.722,- per month and 37 desludging trucks are needed to serve Badung Regency and Denpasar City. Technology audit consist of technoware, humanware, infoware and orgaware (THIO) variables and involved 13 key informants. The overall performance of Suwung FSTP was 81.46%, which indicates good performance with the performance of the THIO variables is 72.22%, 86.67%, 90.28%, and 76.67% consecutively. Scenario analysis shows that should SFSS has been implemented in the study area, the FSTP performance can be increased to 89.79%. SWOT analysis result shows that implementation strategy include establishing partnerships with the private sector, combining data management with a centralized system, improving services and making regulations that support the SFSS program.

Abstract

Biological treatment is one of the effective treatment methods for degrading organic compounds by utilizing microorganisms to treat complex compounds in the effluent water into simpler substances. Thus microorganisms have important roles in biological process. Bacteria that are used can be in the form of non-indigenous bacteria of waste environment or indigenous bacteria. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to identify bacteria species within Biomembrane effluent (wastewater treatment reactor in Cikacembang River) using analytical method by performing series of biochemistry tests. Bacteria identification on this Biomembrane effluent was conducted because it was indicated that those bacteria have potencies to degrade wastes in river water. In addition, we also calculated the bacterial growth rate. The isolated bacteria belonged to Gram positive bacteria in which two bacteria were categorized as the member of Bacillus genus, meanwhile another bacterium was categorized as the member of the Corynebacterium genus. In this research, it was successfully identified several species of the isolated bacteria, namely Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus licheniformis, and Corynebacterium striatum that had growth rate of 139.28 mg/l/h, 130.35 mg/l/h, and 112.13 mg/l/h, respectively.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease that first appeared in December 2019 in Wuhan. The rapid spread of the disease causes this disease to be categorized as a pandemic. The disease COVID-19 is changing the focus of healthcare worldwide. Studies report that the onset of the pandemic contributed to the use of antibiotics. This study focuses on changing patterns of antibiotic use and the factors that influence antibiotic use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was conducted in the city of Bandung which consists of 30 sub-districts. The data collection method used in this research is a questionnaire with a snowball sampling technique. From the research conducted, it was found that the COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant increase in the frequency of antibiotic use (p < 0.05). The sources of information for consuming antibiotics are mostly from doctor's prescriptions. Regarding the habit of providing antibiotics, generally the people of Bandung City do not store antibiotics as supplies either before the COVID-19 pandemic or with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, people who store antibiotics as supplies get the most antibiotics by buying them directly from pharmacies. Based on statistical tests, it is also known that the knowledge and attitude variables are simultaneously significant towards the use of antibiotics both before the COVID-19 pandemic and with the COVID-19 pandemic. Regarding the relationship, there was a straight relationship between the variables of knowledge related to antibiotics, attitudes in using antibiotics, and practices in using antibiotics.

Abstract

Groundwater has potential because in terms of the role and function of groundwater as a source of clean water that is needed and influences human survival over time. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality and status of groundwater quality standards, hydrogeochemical types and the influence of landform on hydrogeochemical types in the study area. The data used is in the form of landform data to determine the distribution of landforms in the study area, groundwater sample data of 10 samples, namely 8 samples from dug wells and 2 samples from drilled wells to analyze groundwater quality and quality standard status based on physical and chemical parameters with the RI Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017 for sanitary hygiene purposes, and determination of the hydrogeochemical type of groundwater based on the Stiff diagram method with the classification Stuyfzand (1993). The quality standard status of groundwater samples where there are 2 adequate groundwater samples and 8 less feasible, but if groundwater treatment is carried out it is possible for 10 groundwater samples to become feasible. The hydrogeochemical types of groundwater in the study area from groundwater samples show varying types of properties. From the alluvial plains landform, the types F*-NaHCO3 Ø, F0-NaHCO3 Ø, F0-CaHCO3 +, F2-CaHCO3 +, and F4-CaHCO3 + were obtained. Furthermore, in the folded hills landform, the types F*-MgCl Ø , F2-MgHCO3 +, and F3-CaHCO3 + were obtained. Meanwhile, the coastal landform has types F4-CaHCO3 Ø and B4-NaCl + . Groundwater aquifers and landforms influence the quality and hydrogeochemistry of groundwater from environmental conditions, aquifer constituent rocks and substances contained in minerals, landform aspects and human activities in the study area.

Abstract

Fertilizer is the main ingredient for plant growth, one of which is organic fertilizer. Organic fertilizers are fertilizers derived from animal parts, livestock waste, dead plants or other organic wastes. Materials for making compost generally use cow dung. This study uses the method of literature study. Literature study aims to support and increase a clear understanding of research objects and ideas so that they can analyze research results properly. Secondary data was collected to determine the scope of information in terms of research that has also developed recently, generalizations based on previous research were carried out to achieve the desired citation. The results of the research show that organic fertilizers are very beneficial for the community and can increase the economic efficiency of the community. The fertilizer processing process becomes more effective with the addition of EM4 as a bioactivator. Organic fertilizers have the advantage of being able to improve the chemical and physical properties of the soil, although they require a larger amount than inorganic fertilizers for the same area. Livestock manure in the form of manure contains nutrients or nutrients which are very beneficial to the soil. The organic fertilizer results obtained are expected to be applied to agricultural land to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

Aktivitas manusia dari waktu ke waktu meningkat sesuai dengan kebutuhan hidupnya. Hal tersebut menyebabkan terjadinya lonjakkan kebutuhan air bersih sekaligus menurunkan kualitas air bersih. Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan dikembangkannya pengolahan air dari berbagai sumber. Salah satu sumber air yang melimpah dan tidak dapat digunakan yaitu air payau. Air payau memiliki kadar garam tinggi atau salinitas yang lebih dari 0,5 ppt. Sehingga, agar dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai air bersih diperlukan pengolahan. Metode yang digunakan yaitu desalinasi dan elektrokoagulasi. Desalinasi merupakan metode pengolahan air untuk mengurangi kadar garam dan berbagai macam mineral. Pada penelitian ini, metode desalinasi yang digunakan yaitu desalinasi dengan menggunakan tanaman mangrove (Avicennia alba) dan dikombinasikan dengan metode elektrokoagulasi menggunakan elektroda stainless steel. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi antara metode desalinasi menggunakan tanaman mangrove (Avicennia alba) dan elektrokoagulasi menggunakan elektroda stainless steel dapat menurunkan parameter TDS, kekeruhan, pH dan salinitas.
