Indonesian Journal of Tropical Aquatic (IJOTA) is open access publishes papers two times a year in February and Augst. IJOTA will publish the research results useful for the sustainability of fisheries. IJOTA is a scientific journal that discusses the results of research in science, technology, marine and freshwater fisheries that have not been published. Articles should be created in a language that is easily understood by non-specialist readers in the topic of the article itself, but interested in research. This scientific article includes the results of research on Aquaculture (Fish Nutrition, Fish Health and Diseases, Water Quality, Fish Genetics Improvement and Breeding, Fisheries Engineering and Biotechnology), Aquarium Sciences, Aquatic Ecology (Marine, Brackish, Freshwater), Conservation of Aquatic Resources and also Coastal Management. A journal script should be written in English.

Abstract

In this study, the effects of using vegetable oils solely in finfish feed on nutritional status as well as lipid damage were evaluated. Polyene index (PI), atherogenic index (AI) as well as hypocholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic fatty acids were assessed. Also, n-3/n-6 and n-6/n-3 ratios were assessed. In all, 32 articles were used for this study after carefully assessing them. Eighteen (18) articles had studied Freshwater species (FWF) whiles fourteen (14) had studied Marine species (MF). TI, n-3/n-6, and n-6/n-3 were significantly higher in fish-fed saturated fatty acids (SFA), n-3, and n-6 dominant vegetables. We document that using vegetable oils without supplementing fish diets with fish oil does not compromise the nutritional status as well as lipid damage. This work provides important information about the effect of using 100% vegetable oils in fish with respect to the nutritional composition of the final product.

Abstract

Catfish farming is growing rapidly because the cultivation and marketing technology is relatively easy for the community to master, and the required business capital is relatively small. Pond water waste originating from fish metabolism and dissolved food waste is toxic to fish. One of the efforts that can be done is fish farming that is integrated with plants through an aquaponics system. Research to determine the effect of AB Mix addition on the growth of African catfish and lettuce cultivated by the aquaponics system. The research method used was an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments and three replications. The addition of AB mixed nutrition did not differ in the growing significance of catfish and lettuce. However, the increase in growth occurred with an increasing dosage of AB mix with the best treatment with AB Mix 3 mL L-1. This treatment resulted in absolute growth in fish of 20.52 g and 4.62 g of watercress. The use of a dosage of AB mix higher than 3 mL L-1 may result in better growth.

Abstract

Small pelagic fish resources in the Java Sea, especially Banyuwangi, are dominated by catches of Decapterus sp, which are mostly landed at the UPT of the Coastal Fisheries Port Muncar. This study aimed to provide information on CPUE trends (Catch Per Unit Effort) and the seasonality of flying fish in the Coastal Fisheries Port Muncar as an effort to encourage effective and sustainable in using of fishery resources. The method used in this study was a survey. The research data was obtained through secondary data including time series of the production of catches of flying fish, and trip data of purse seine, payang and bagan from 2015 to 2019 collected by Coastal Fisheries Port Muncar. The analysis used the CPUE analysis by comparing catches to capture attempts. The results showed, from 2015 to 2019, the highest CPUE of flying fish occurred in 2019, amounting to 13 365.5 kg/trip, while the lowest CPUE occurred in 2016 amounted to 1 050.6 kg/trip. The trend of CPUE flying fish from 2015 to 2019 experienced a fluctuating increase with an average of 7 327.5 kg/trip. A good season for flying fishing occurs from May to December, and shares a peak in December, while famine occurs in January.

Abstract

The estuary of the Seletreng river is located in the Banyuglugur area of the Situbondo Regency and is directly adjacent to the shrimp pond area. The estuary of this river is widely used by local residents to look for fish, crabs. The existence of shrimp ponds near the mouth of this river has made many changes to the surrounding ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to determine the diversity index of macrozoobenthos and to determine the uniformity of macrozoobenthos. This research was conducted in February-March 2019, located in the waters of the mouth of the Seletreng Banyuglugur river, Situbondo district. Uses 5 stations with 3 repetitions. The diversity index value at the five stations, namely at station 1 is at a value of 0.66 which is categorized as low, at station 2 it is 0.36, at station 3 is 0.53, at station 4 is 0.65, at station 5 is 0, 25 wherefrom all stations the diversity index value is less than 1 and categorized as low diversity. The uniformity index value at the five stations, namely at station 1 is at a value of 0.37, at station 2 is 0.18, at station 3 is 0.24, at station 4 is 0.40, at station 5 is 0.12 wherefrom all stations diversity index value less than 1 and categorized on uniformity depressed.

Abstract

A purse seine is a fishing tool made of nets which are operated by circling the hordes of fish to a bowl-shaped tool at the end of the fishing process and is commonly used to catch pelagic fish by fishermen at UPT PPP Pondokdadap. The purpose of this study was to determine the technical aspects and income of the purse seine vessels in Sendang Biru village and to analyze the feasibility of the purse seine fishery business in the Sendang Biru village. This research was conducted from May to June 2019 at UPT PPP Pondokdadap, Sendang Biru, Malang Regency. The research sample was taken by purposive sampling. Data analysis using descriptive analysis and business financial analysis. The results of the calculation of the business analysis and investment on the purse seine ship found a profit of IDR 1,394,798,872, R/C of 43, PP of 13 months, ROI of 92, NPV of IDR 90,337,780,072, IRR of 633.8 %, and Net B/C is 61. The results show that the purse seine fishery business meets the requirements and is still feasible to be implemented.

Abstract

Kramian Island is located in the north of the Masalembu Islands, East Java. This area has good sea cucumber resources, but the rules on the prohibition of overfishing of sea cucumbers have not been implemented by the government in the Kramian Islands, so that fishing activities carried out by fishermen, continuously regardless of the type and size of sea cucumbers, can cause sea cucumbers in the wild to run out and the impact of sea cucumbers will be extinct. The research was conducted with the aim of knowing the fishing location, fishing method, sea cucumber species, number of catches, and benefits of sea cucumber catch. This research was conducted in March-June 2020. The method used in the study was observed with fishermen. The results of the discovery of the location of sea cucumbers using GPS, there were 3 types of sea cucumbers, namely Tanduk (Stichopus variegatus), Kapuk (Stichopus variegatus), and Susu (Holothuria rigida). Sea cucumber catch in March (253.4 kg), April (261.1 kg), May (124.1 kg), June (733.6 kg). The highest sea cucumber catch data occurred in June, while the lowest catch occurred in May.

Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is a popular freshwater commodity with high market demand in Indonesia, especially in Central Kalimantan. Kapuas Regency, there is a group of farmers who utilize the productivity of peatland to be used as a medium of cultivation of snakehead fish through a biological approach. This research aims to analyze the efforts of members of the fish cultivation group Bahtera Handal Dadahup (BHD), Kapuas Regency based on business analyze to determine the net profit value (π), R/C ratio, Payback Period (PP), and Break Even Point (BEP). BHD group obtained a value ranging from Rp 11 935 000 to Rp 46 022 500; R/C > 1, i.e. ranging from 2.96 to 4.29. Payback Period or return period of capital (investment) lasts for 5 to 10 months; and break even point (BEP) values range from Rp 9 318.3 kg-1 to Rp 13 477.7 kg-1. Based on the calculation of the analysis of the business, the business of fish cultivation group Bahtera Handal Dadahup, deserves to be run and developed.

Abstract

The high demand of botia fish (Chromobotia macracanthus) in the market lead to its sustainability in nature being threatened. The purpose of this technical report is to describe the broodstock and spawning techniques of botia fish carried out at the Research and Cultivation Center for Freshwater Ornamental Fish (BRBIH) Depok, West Java. This activity was carried out from December 2019 to January 2020. This study used two female cows with a spawning ratio of 3 : 1. The average length of the female parent is 9.5 cm with an average weight of 33.5 g, while the length of the male parent is 15.3 cm with an average weight of 56.3 g. Spawning is done artificially using ovaprim. The result of this study was the fecundity value of an average of 8 453 eggs / ind. The average FR was 86.15 %, and the average HR was 78.15 %.

Abstract

Viral nervous necrosis (VNN) is a disease that often infects groupers. It has caused mass death in more than 34 species of marine fish. DNA vaccination might become a solution againts the infection. The construction of the pmBA-CP DNA vaccine consisting of the beta-actin promoter of medaka fish (Oryzias latipes) and capsid protein (CP) encoding VNN RNA2 has been made in previous studies. This study aimed to test the efficacy of the pmBA-CP DNA vaccine for VNN. The experiment consisted of two stages, namely (1) detection of anti-VNN antibody induction in vaccinated fish using ELISA, and (2) challenge test for fish vaccinated with the VNN virus. Grouper (body length 8 cm to 10 cm) were divided into two groups with a density of 5 fish 60 L–1. The fish in the first group were vaccinated with pmBA-CP intramuscularly at a dose of 12.5 µg per fish, while the second group of fish were not vaccinated. Antibody titer testing was carried out before treatment, and 1 d, 7 d, 14 d, 21 d, 28 d, and 35 d after vaccination. The challenge test was carried out on the 60th day after vaccination. The results showed that the S / P ratio in the vaccinated fish serum was higher than unvaccinated fish at 21 d to 35 d post-vaccination. DNA vaccination was able to induce anti-VNN antibodies of grouper. The results of the challenge test for vaccinated fish using VNN virus titer 103.5 FID50/0.2 mL showed 60% of survival rate. Thus, the pmBA-CP DNA vaccine could be useful for increasing grouper immunity, and support production of grouper.
