Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of POE (Predict-Observe-Explain) learning models on students' science process skills on the coordination system concept. This research was carried out in SMA Negeri 9 Tangerang Selatan in the 2017/2018 school year. This research method is quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The study sample consisted of 73 students:  37 experimental group and 36 control group. The research instrument used is a test of science process skills in the form of a description test and observation sheet. The results of data analysis of students' science process skills using ANACOVA, showed that there were significant differences between the experimental and the control group. This shows that there was an effect of the application of the POE (Predict-Observe-Explain) learning model on students' science process skills on the concept of coordination system.

Abstract

The aim of research is to obtain the teaching materials based on Learning Cycle 5E Model that are feasible to increase the student’s critical thinking skill and learning outcome. The type of research is a developmental research because this research was to develop the teaching material consisting of lesson plan, student’s worksheet, and knowledge assessment instrument. The development of teaching materials was using four D model. The feasibility of teaching materials includes the validity, practicality, and the effectiveness. The data collecting used observation, test, and questionnaire method. The data analysis technique that is utilized is descriptive qualitative analysis and descriptive quantitative analysis. According to the observational data showed some finding as follows: (1) the validity of teaching materials were valid category; (2) the practicality of teaching material was shown by implementation of the lesson plan categorized as good, student’s based activity was dominant, and the obstacle in learning process could be solved; and (3) the effectiveness of the teaching materials shown by positive student’s response to implementation of learning process, developed critical thinking skill increased as high category, and the student’s learning outcomes on Gnostic aspect increased, the average student’s attitude aspect is B+ and the average of the student’s skill aspect was A-. Based on these result, it can be concluded that developed teaching materials using learning cycle 5E model are feasible to be used to increase critical thinking skills and students learning outcomes

Abstract

PO2E2W learning model (problem orientation, observation, explanation, elaboration, and write in science) assisted by PhET media is a learning model that is oriented towards self regulated learning which in the process of physics learning activities is carried out with the help of PhET media. The purpose of this study was to analyze the practicality of the PO2E2W model assisted by PhET media in improving the physics problem solving skills of high school students. This research was carried out at Kemala Bhayangkari 1 High School (Surabaya, Indonesia) for students of class XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2 and XI IPA 3. Criteria for practicality of learning devices in this study were based on (1) the implementation of the learning implementation plan (RPP) during one meeting in class XI IPA 1 and the implementation of the learning plan (RPP) for five meetings in class XI IPA 2 and XI IPA 3, (2) obstacles during learning activities. The number of observers in this study is two observers. The aspects observed consisted of introduction, core and closing activities. Based on the results of the practicality study of the PO2E2W model assisted by PhET media, the results obtained (1) the average assessment of two observers in class XI IPA 1 was 3.30 with good category with a percentage of agreement 96.75%, XI IPA 2 was 3.71 in very both with a percentage of agreement 95.84% and in class XI IPA 3 was 3.76 in very good category with a percentage of agreement 96.85% (2) obstacles during learning activities that can be overcome properly. Conclusion based on the results of the study of the freeness of the PO2E2W model assisted by PhET media is practically applied in learning to improve the physics problem solving skills of senior high school students.
