Abstract

Taking self portrait is one form of self-expression that is currently favored by people around the world. The development of Internet technologies as well as the technologies provided by gadgets allow the users to take a very good picture quality due to the high quality of the camera. The people need of self expression can be used to attract the crowd in a event organised in public places. Provision of Photo Kiosk facilities - a computer kiosk equipped with a camera, will be able to attract the visitors to try this activity. Results of the photo displayed on the screen in large measure around the location will also increase interest in using the application. This application was developed using web technology with three-tier system, using HTML, CSS, Jquery on the client side, and using PHP and MySQL on the server side. This applications tested in an event at the mall, where applications run well, although the image quality is closely related to the quality of the camera as well as the lighting conditions in the area of the exhibition site.

Abstract

Inventory is known to be one of the most an important factor to ensure smooth sales process. Hence the company must ensure sufficient supplies so that the sales process is not hampered. A good inventory management is needed in order to ensure the sufficiency of inventory item. Common problems found in the inventory management are (1) delays, (2) limited stock, (3) and unfavorable stock items. Through seamless integration of inventory management systems, procurement, and sales processing, company can monitor the condition of the inventory, distribution of goods, monitoring the position of the goods with no difficulties. This study took U.D. Sejahtera as implementation object which previously had inventory management problem. After implementing the inventory management system, they managed to streamline their procurement, inventory and sales process effectively and efficiently. The impact of the implementation were owner and managers able to focus on business expansion rather than trapped in daily routine problems.

Abstract

Technological developments had an impact on all aspects including in business. There is a problem when technology can’t be regulated properly cause a negative impact, this called big data. The solution for this problem is business intelligence which providing additional value in the data. When BI implemented, businesses can perform an analysis of the business and can be used as a strategy formulation. On the other hand, the development of technology in the business world also began in Indonesia. One of the applications most used by user is accurate. Due to the target market of accurate application of general market, accurate doesn’t have some special features that are required by the company. The purpose of this research is expecte to create busineess accurate intelligence on an architecture that can provide additional value for the company. This research focuses on the design and manufacture of business intelligence applications query the data that converts data from the database accurate data is ready to be analyzed. Making an application using Visual Basic programming language and database firebird. The process of needs analysis was conducted by interview, application studies, comparative studies and database studies. Based on the analysis, accurate database is mapped into four major subjects, namely sales, purchase, inventory and the person who becomes the source of the data from business intelligence made. For the test, the research uses a database of real companies that have used accurate application. From the test results, can disumpulkan that the application has successfully made the analysis based on source data that has been created.

Abstract

Medical Check Up is the important part to control people’s health. By checking up the health in laboratory can help to know someone’s health level. But, sometimes it is too difficult to read the result because the patient does not know the meaning for every items in the result. It means that patient can not conclude the result whether it is good or bad. Another problem faced by patient is the progress for the health level. Sometimes, patients do not have access to the earlier check up result. Visualization is a step to give a illustration to the people about specific description or exposure. Medical and Laboratorium Data Visualization is one step ahead to give the description about patients health level and condition. Thus, the the result can be delivered well. In this research, visualization method will be implemented to the laboratory result, especially for the numeric result. This study make the system which can visualize the patient laboratory result. Patients are also able to know and search the earlier result. The laboratory result is presented in graphical presentation in order to give the patients some description about health level. The system are able to ease the patient know their health condition.

Abstract

The motorcycle as transportation vehicles have a fairly high number compared to other transportation vehicles. A lot of motorcycles are manufactured with a variety of brands, types, color, etc. No wonder, the motorcycle shop owners tend to be confused determining the attributes of motorcycles such as brand, type, color and production year which meet the market demand. To solve the problem, we build a system that can calculate the value of the attributes of the most influential in the sale of used motorcycles based on the available data. In this research, the authors used C4.5 algorithms to be implemented into the system. This system will calculate the total value of the gain of each attribute on motorcycle sales data. This research resulted a system that can record sales and purchases transactions to be used in the calculation of the gain of each attribute of motorcycle using C4.5 algorithms. The output of this system will show the value of the gain of each attribute (brand, type, color and production year). The highest position of the attribute means the highest value of the gain that also means it meets the market demand.

Abstract

Nowadays cloud computing is becoming a trend on big data processing. Google created MapReduce model to simplify the complex computation of big data processing by configuring and splitting the data into key/values pair to be processed in parallel, usually within a network of computers, then merge the results. However, MapReduce model has its limitations. Researchers have been trying to improve the model resulting in some newer models, such as Mantri, Camdoop, Sudo, and Nectar model. Each model exploits the different characteristics of MapReduce model to create improvements in different way and cases. Challenges and improvements still remain within these enhanced models, which open new possibilities on area of research.

Abstract

The assessment within the teaching process may take many form, such as written test, exam, assignment, etc. Grading are done manually on the exam or test sheet paper. For the assignment of 3D Model Subject, the grades are written on a form glued under the assignment result. This generates problem for teacher when storing the grades in the computer. The adjunct lecturers don’t have any place to store the hardcopy for 2D or 3D assignment. This research designed and developed a system that helps storing the grades, where data (grades) captured automatically based on predetermined percentage for each exam, test, assignment, etc. This can minimize human error factors in storing process. Surveys (interview, questionnaire and direct observation) are done to several teachers that have this problems, followed by generates system requirements, design and implementation of the software. Our system has been tested and shows promising result. The software run on Android based mobile phone and take a photo of preprinted form that attached on the assignment, read the data, and store it. The grades will stored based on their percentage in the database. With this system, grading form/sheet can be stored easily, fast, efficient and effectively; and can shows detailed information for each grades. This system provides minimal error rates, faster grades storing process and increased user –teachers and students- satisfaction.

Abstract

Physics theory such as the theory of thermal expansion and contraction found difficult and less motivating for some students. Multimedia technology seen as an opportunity to resolve those kind of problem in physics education. Multimedia technology has the capability to show subjects in different lights such as show process which is unseen, provide simulation to explain subject more clearly and divide complex explanation into chunks. Phases of interview, analyzing and design had been conduct in order to build a digital media to assist student to learn independently.

Abstract

The Government, from year to year, always monitor and evaluate the empowerment of small to medium industries. Those industries are the backbone of the National Economic. Those small to medium industries have significant contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the main provider of job vacancy, and the source of the nation’s income through the export activities. One of the popular small to medium industries in East Java are the shoe manufacturing industries. The Ministry of Industry also has established a policy that the development of small to medium industries is done through the cluster approach. The problem faced by those industry clusters is the lack of collaboration among the cluster stakeholders that leads to insufficient synergy among them. This research aims to overcome those problems by developing the e-collaborative business application that could act as the solution to increase the effectiveness of the collaboration among those industry clusters.

Abstract

Algorithm and Programming (Alpro) is the first programming course for the students in the Informatics Engineering department of the University of Surabaya (Ubaya). Unfortunately the failure rate for this course is still high. In the Second Semester, all students that take Alpro are the ones that must retake the course. In general the students that retake Alpro have a low learning spirit and self confidence. The content of the course and the possibility to achieve the highest grade are no longer attractive to them. In this condition it is necessary to find a different teaching approach that is different from the one that is used for regular class. The teaching approach that was applied in the Second Semester of academic year 2014/2015 is to strengthen the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of the students in general. In addition, there was also a role playing that was applied to some students that joined it voluntarily. As a result of the approaches, the failure rate of the students that retake the Alpro decreased significantly from 40% in the Second semester of academic year 2013/2014 to just 14.8% in the Second semester of academic year 2014/2015. In addition, a stronger intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of the students that joined the role playing make them to have a good performance. The average final mark for the students that join the role playing is 81.7. This final mark is higher than the average final mark for the students that did not join the role playing, that is 70.56. This research shows a positive contribution of the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to the students’ performance. The failure rate of the course can be decreased if the teacher can increase the students’ intrinsic and and extrinsic motivation. Some general strategies to increase the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are presented in this paper, as well as a specific strategy in the form of a role playing. The success approach that is performed to decrease the failure rate of the students that retake Alpro can be developed to become a general approach by applying the approach to other courses or to the same course in the other University.
