Abstract

Network on Chip (NoC) router plays a vital role in System on Chip (SoC) applications. Routing operation is difficult to perform inside the SoC chip. Because it contains millions of chips in one single Integrated Circuit (IC), in which every chip consists of millions of transistors. Hence NoC router is designed to enable efficient routing operation in the SoC board.  NoC router consists of Network Interconnects (NI), Crossbar Switches, arbiters, a routing logic and buffers. Conventional unidirectional router is designed by priority based Round Robin Arbiter (RRA). It produces more delay to find the priority, which comes from various input channels and more area is consumed in unidirectional router. Also if any path failure occurs, it cannot route the data through other output channel. To overcome this problem, a novel bidirectional NoC router with and without contention is proposed, which offers less area and high speed than the existing unidirectional router. A novel bidirectional NoC router consists of round robin arbiter, Static RAM, switch allocator, virtual channel allocator and crossbar switch. The proposed bidirectional router can route the data from any input channel to each and every output channel. So it avoids conflict situation and path failure problems. If any path fails, immediately it will take the alternative path through the switch allocator. The proposed routing scheme is applied into the coarse grained architecture for improving the speed of the interconnection link between two processing elements. Simulation is performed by ModelSim6.3c and synthesis is carried out by Xilinx10.1.

Abstract

The usage of multilevel inverter has increased in a drastic manner for the past years. These novel  inverters are useful in various mega power applications. As they are have the ability to change the output waveforms, they are having good harmonic distortions and better output results. This work proposes a novel five level asymmetrical  inverter which is incorporated with the zeta converter. Comparison is made with the existing multilevel inverter with the proposed system. The simulation results give the proposed system has less THD[1] when compared to the existing inverters. The main objective is that the number of switches and capacitors are reduced which in turn reduces the loss and the cost. From the output results is has been proved that the proposed topology gives reduced loss and high quality output when compared with the conventional methods.

Abstract

Various countries have been encouraged to adopt electronic voting because it can reduce operational cost and time spent for tabulation process. In the current research, it has been mentioned several problem arised in term of technical aspects, voters’ trust, machine vulnerabilities and privacy right in which experts argued the election system have been compromised. In short term, the certain faction will try to exploit the system weaknesses for their own benefit, while in the long term, it can create public distrust to the government, which decrease the voters turn out, break the participation willingness and downgrade the quality of voting. Thus, the government should deal with previous issues in the election before adopting electronic approach while at the same time align with voters’ expectation to provide better election in serve citizen through comprehensive analysis. This study provide initial step to analyse the readiness of electronic voting from the social perspective in response to how Indonesia view the initiative to adopt new tech in voting system.

Abstract

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication over the Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) networks has witness exponential growth and expansion in the last couple of years. This expansion has created an increase in the demand for high speed internet, multimedia messaging services, digital broadcasting etc, thus fuelling higher data traffic. The network operators in trying to meet this increasing demand injected more access points by deploying more Base Stations (BSs) to make the network denser. The BSs are the major consumers of energy in the wireless communication network due to the use of inefficient power amplifiers and therefore deploying more BSs into the network will increase the power consumption and the networks operational cost. The aim of this paper was to examine the power consumption patterns of the main elements in the BS, employ various techniques to reduce their power consumption, reduce the operational cost and improve the efficiency of the BS.

Abstract

Nonlinear conjugate gradient (CG) methods are widely used in optimization field due to its efficiency for solving a large scale unconstrained optimization problems. Many studies and modifications have been developed in order to improve the method. The method is known to possess sufficient descend condition and its global convergence properties under strong Wolfe-Powell search direction. In this paper, the new coefficient of CG method is presented. The global convergence and sufficient descend properties of the new coefficient are established by using strong Wolfe-Powell line search direction. Results show that the new coefficient is able to globally converge under certain assumptions and theories.

Abstract

This paper was conducted a survey of research findings related to decision-making in groups using weighting techniques This paper conducts a survey of research findings related to decision-making in groups using weighting techniques, therefore, a new weighting model can be proposed.. In order to make a decision, this model works based on the weighting parameters, criteria or decision makers (DM) to give ranking preference in the decision results. Weighting could be done objectively or subjectively by statistical calculations. Subjective weighting based on an understanding or expertise of the decision-making process, furthermore, a numerical value was needed to make it objective. The previous weighting models need to be modified for the development of group decision support systems (GDSS). It is required to accommodate the interests of all stakeholders to link the DM relationship. We formed several groups of weighting methods that currently use for the trend of group decision-making (GDM). It showed that the classical multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) models are still dominant in solving GDSS problems, therefore, it was necessary to apply hybrid MCDM with an approach method of stakeholders models and social networks (SN) to improve decision model that has been applied in the previous research.

Abstract

Abstract           There is a threefold increase in video traffic over internet. Due to this video compression has become important. Compression of video signals is quiet an interesting task but comes at the cost of video quality. After compression, two methods are scientifically applied to evaluate the quality of video; Subjective and objective analysis. In subjective approach the compressed video is shown to a group of viewers and their feedback is recorded Objective approach aims to set up a mathematical model which can approximate the results of subjective analysis. One such approach is based on the measurement of PSNR. When a signal is applied to the encoder for compression, too much of compression results in a signal with a smaller size but at the same time quality of the signal degrades. In this paper we will compare the quality of compressed video signals produced by H.264, Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 encoder based on the values of MSE and PSNR. Lower the value of MSE, higher will be the PSNR. Comparative plots of MSE, PSNR, SSIM and images for subjective analysis have been added at the end of this paper.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of the local insurance in Malaysia for the period 2014-2015. The major challenge in the insurance industry is increasing competition in this market. Besides that, problematic in performance measurement to evaluate performance is another challenge in insurance industry. 24 local insurance companies involved in this study using quantitative method of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) output-orientation CCR model. This study utilizes three inputs and three outputs; operating expenses, equity capital and commission as well as net premium, net investment income, and net incurred claim. The secondary data sources were derived from official data of local insurance companies’ annual report respectively. The DEA-Solver-LV version 8 tools were used to analyze the data that have been collected to evaluate the performance of local insurance company. This DEA model allows integration of the performance for the insurance companies and provides management overall performance evaluation. The results showed that there are 8 efficient companies in 2014 and 9 efficient companies in 2015. The average efficiency score in 2014 was increased from 78.9% to 79.1% in 2015. The findings from this study will benefit the insurance associations in Malaysia, management of insurances companies and policy makers.

Abstract

This paper proposes a modification of distribution factor methods for identifying the load contribute in a transmission open access, with regard to the load power factor. This method may be considered as the first pricing strategy to be proposed in bilateral transaction for transmission usage, based on the actual use of the transmission network. The merit of this method relies on the existence of a load power factor with GLDF  methods, which allocate the  transmission cost, not only based on the amount of power flow but also on the load characteristic. A case study utilizing the IEEE 30-bus system was conducted to illustrate the contribution of the proposed method in allocating the transmission usage to the user in a fair manner.

Abstract

Hashes are used to check the integrity of data. This paper modified SHA-1 by incorporating mixing method in every round for better diffusion. The modification increased the hash output to 192-bits. Increasing the output increases the strength because breaking the hash takes longer. Based on the different message types, avalanche percentage of modified SHA-1 showed better diffusion at 51.64%, higher than the target 50%, while SHA-1 achieved 46.61%. The average execution time noted for modified SHA-1 is 0.33 seconds while SHA-1 is 0.08 seconds. Time increases as the number of messages hashed increases; the difference is negligible in fewer messages. On character hits, that is - no same character in the same position, modified SHA-1 achieved lower hit rate because of the mixing method added. The modifications’ effectiveness was also evaluated using a hash test program. After inputting 1000 hashes from random strings, the result shows no duplicate hash.
