Abstract

Paper is regarded as a promising alternative for low-cost and biodegradable substrate. Paper can be a very good humidity detecting substrate due to its capability to absorb water vapour, thanks to its porous surface. This work explores the feasibility of developing a paper-based humidity sensor using simple and low cost fabrication process. Two type of electrode structures, namely interdigitated and parallel electrode, were formed by using two different pencil grade. The pencil grades used were 2B and 6B. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the fabricated device were measured under different relative humidity and its humidity sensing operation was analyzed. It was observed that the sensor with the 6B and parallel electrode configuration was the most responsive to humidity changes while the 6B interdigitated sensor was the second best. The sensors fabricated with the 6B electrodes are better at sensing humidity changes compared to the sensors fabricated using 2B electrodes.

Abstract

Precise hub angle positioning due to tip deflections, flexible motions and under various payloads is enormous tasks in the control of single-link flexible manipulators. In this paper, output-based command shaping (OBCS) was designed using the system output for tip deflections and residuals vibrations suppression, and this was incorporated with a linear matrix inequality (LMI) closed-loop control scheme for precise hub angle positioning.  The robustness of the hybrid control scheme was tested by changing the payloads from 0g to 30g, and 50g. Simulation results showed that endpoint residuals vibrations and tip deflections due to flexible motions were suppressed and hence precise hub angle positioning under various payloads was achieved. Integral absolute error (IAE), integral square error (ISE) and time response analysis (TRA) were used as the performance indexes. Hence, the hybrid control scheme is simple and robust.

Abstract

Smart and efficient agricultural production or smart farming using IoT sensors, big-data and cloud service has proven its value for a decade but the effect depends on the agricultural environment of the country or society. In Korea, the population of urban farmers who utilizes small, possibly shared area in farming. Urban farming uses rooftop of the building or even indoor for cropping and many urban farmers may not have sufficient professional farming experiences. However, with information technology like cloud service, many critical farming process can be automated and requires minimal human intervention in monitoring and controlling sensors. In this paper, we propose a smart urban farming model which modifies TTA smart greenhouse standard such that cloud service us integrated with IoT sensors. The hardware design of integrated controller and subsequent software services are specified. This new model can be used to enhance smart urban farming which is one of top 10 agricultural policy of the government.

Abstract

The recognition of Arabic handwritten is received at the same interest as other Latin languages. In optical character recognition (OCR), handwriting Arabic recognition is considered as one of the critical and difficult tasks in the various scientific area. The main issues of this matter were due to the lack of public Arabic handwriting databases and the cursive nature of Arabic writing. In this paper, a new benchmark database is built for the Arabic and English off-line handwritten digits Recognition. The original form is divided into three groups: Arabic digits, English digits, and word Arabic digits which written five times by 100 different academic staff and students of university writers. Our database contains 14500 images; divided into two subsets of training and testing to help researchers through evaluating and comparing results obtained from their systems.

Abstract

This research deals with the feasibility of a mobile robot to navigate and discover its location at unknown environments, and then constructing maps of these navigated environments for future usage. In this work, we proposed a modified Extended Kalman Filter- Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (EKF-SLAM) technique which was implemented for different unknown environments containing a different number of landmarks. Then, the detectable landmarks will play an important role in controlling the overall navigation process and EKF-SLAM technique’s performance. MATLAB simulation results of the EKF-SLAM technique come with better performance as compared with an odometry approach performance in terms of measuring the mean square error, especially when increasing the number of landmarks. After that, we simulate and evaluate a mobile robot platform named TurtleBot2e in Gazebo simulator software to achieve the using of the SLAM technique for a different environment using the Rviz library which was built on Robot Operating System in Linux. The main conclusion comes with this work is the simulation and implementation of the SLAM technique using two software platforms separately (MATLAB and ROS) in different unknown environments containing a different number of landmarks so a few number of landmark will make the mobile robot loses its path.

Abstract

The evolution of financial technology into digital payment has led to a new era of cashless society. In line with the global trend, the Malaysian Government has been committed to strengthen the agenda of a cashless society by actively promoting the use of e-Wallet through the establishment of the interoperable credit transfer framework (ICTF) policy in 2018. Although e-Wallet has been implemented since 2016, several previous studies have found that the level of acceptance is still relatively low while the main factors that influence the acceptance of e-Wallet in Malaysia still remain unclear. This study aims to identify the factors that influence the acceptance of e-Wallet towards establishing cashless society in Malaysia. Online survey using closed-ended questionnaires have been conducted among 400 respondents from students and employees of Malaysian public universities in Klang Valley. Collected data have been analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics which consist of Factor Analysis, Pearson Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression in statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). Based on the findings, four factors are found to significantly influence e-Wallet acceptance, which consist of performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC) and trust (T). facilitating conditions (FC) is the most influential significant factor behind the acceptance of e-Wallet among Malaysians.

Abstract

A thorough modal characterization, centred on the full vectorial finite element method (FEM) has been used to model and numerically investigate a porous core photonic crystal fibre (PC-PCF), which may potentially be integrated into Terahertz (1012 Hz) compact systems. The proposed fibre consists of a rotated hexagonal core surrounded by a conventional hexagonal cladding. It has been shown that effective material loss (EML), core power fraction and dispersion profile are 0.019 cm-1, 51.7% and 0.5 ± 0.04 ps/THz/cm within 1 THz bandwidth, respectively. Based on simulated results and noncomplex design, it is envisaged that the proposed fibre can be realised for industrial THz applications.

Abstract

This paper proposes a UE-controlled intelligent handover algorithm for natural disaster. In this handover algorithm, two variables known as modified received signal strength (RSSm) and left over power (LoP) are identified. The RSSm is an improved formulation from RSS where distance fraction coefficient has been introduced. The fraction coefficient of 0.2 is used where the affected areas is reduced so that the users can receive good signal quality due to its location near to the base station. Meanwhile, the LoP also has been investigated to control power consumption of base station. In this research, 80% RSSm and 20% LoP has been chosen for the proposed handover algorithm as it can maintain good quality of service (QoS) for all users and also can prolong battery life.  From the simulation results obtained, the average number of handovers for the proposed handover algorithm outperformed the conventional natural disaster handover algorithm.

Abstract

Hackers should be prevented from disclosing sensitive data when sent from one device to another over the network. Therefore, the proposed method was established to prevent the attackers from exploiting the vulnerabilities of the redundancy in the ciphertext and enhances the substitution and permutation operations of the encryption process .the solution was performed by eliminates these duplicates by hiding the ciphertext into a submatrix 4 x4 that chooses randomly from magic square 16x16 in each ciphering process. Two techniques of encrypted and hiding were executed in the encryption stage by using a magic square size 3 × 3   and Latin square size 3 × 3 to providing more permutation and also to ensure an inverse matrix of decryption operation be available. In the hiding stage, the ciphertext was hidden into a 16×16 matrix that includes 16 sub-magic squares to eliminate the duplicates in the ciphertext. Where all elements that uses were polynomial numbers of a finite field of degree Galois Fields GF ( ).  The proposed technique is robust against disclosing the repetition encrypted data based on the result of Avalanche Effect in an accepted ratio (62%) and the results of the output of the proposed encryption method have acceptable randomness based on the results of the p-values (0.629515) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) randomness tests. The work can be considered significant in the field of encrypting databases because the repetition of encrypted data inside databases is considered an important vulnerability that helps to guess the plaintext from the encrypted text.

Abstract

The effectiveness of game and recreational activity (GaRA) can be determined from the application of fuzzy conjoint analysis (FCA). The analysis was used due to fuzziness in determining individual perceptions. This study involved a survey collected from 1494 students who participated in a Mathematics Discovery Camp organized by a UKM research group. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of modules delivered to cultivate affection and confidence in Mathematics through different factors. There were 11 games conducted for the participants, and their perceptions based on the evaluation of six attributes were measured. A seven-point Likert scale method representing seven linguistic terms was used to collect students’ preferences to indicate their perceptions of each GaRA module. Scores of perceptions were transformed into degrees of similarity. Results found that interest, effort and team work were the strongest values obtained from GaRA as participants strongly agreed that these attributes fulfilled their preferences in most module. The evaluation using fuzzy conjoint model implicated the successfulness of a fuzzy approach to evaluate fuzziness obtained in the Likert-scale, and has shown its ability in ranking the attributes from most preferred to least preferred.
