Abstract

It can be studied in this paper that a cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) helps device-to-device (D2D) communication system through base station (BS). In particular, we investigate BS selection scheme as a best channel condition for dedicated devices where a different data transmission demand on each device is resolved. The analysis on amplifying-and forward (AF) relay is proposed to evaluate system performance of the conventional cooperative NOMA scheme. Under the realistic assumption of perfect channel estimation, the achievable outage probability of both devices is investigated, and several impacts on system performance are presented. The mathematical formula in closed form related to probability has also been found. By implementing Monte-Carlo simulation, the simulation results confirm the accuracy of the derived analytical results. Also, the proposed D2D cooperative NOMA system introduces expected performance on reasonable selected parameters in the moderate signal to noise ratio (SNR) regime.

Abstract

MOOC or Massive Online Open Course is increasingly adopted by Universiti Teknologi MARA as one of the e-learning methods. It is estimated that 900 courses will be offered by end of 2018, in line with the Malaysian Government’s push for better utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. This creates an opportunity to introduce MOOC as a legitimate full alternative to lecture classes. However, learners in a MOOC setting are at a disadvantage when compared to conventional classroom in learner-learner and learner-instructor interaction. There is a huge temporal gap that exists by nature of how the courses are conducted. InSIDE is developed as a model that introduces synchronous interactivity and immersive component within MOOC. To facilitate interaction in this setting, InSIDE suggests a dedicated moderator to accompany the lecture. The model also utilizes a “go high and fail gracefully” approach to overcome the devices, connectivity and infrastructural challenge. In pursuant of the creation of a model that can be used in UiTM, interviews with UiTM’s MOOC facilitators and lecturers were conducted to gain insights on the behind-the-scene processes of creating and managing a course. In order to ensure that the model is feasible within existing infrastructure, a Proof of Concept was conducted with an actual lecture. InSIDE was also presented to three experts on MOOC in UITM. From the qualitative data obtained, 2 out of 3 experts agree that the InSIDE have the possibility to improve MOOC delivery, while one expert agree with reservation in regards required hardware and infrastructure required.

Abstract

Existing methodologies based on the request/response model for system software design, rooted in principles of object-oriented design, lead to tightly-coupled interactions, and lack coordination capacities. The publish/subscribe(P/S) paradigm is particularly suitable for loosely- coupled communication environment. A design of event and subscription models under an object- oriented environment was motivated by the idea of using P/S paradigm for an object-oriented environment. The P/S service is comprised of two subsystem-compiler and executor. In each subsystem, its form, working process, and typical algorithms are analysed from the point of object-oriented and technology of P/S paradigm separately. Experiment was simulated in the following two aspects: user’s model and middle code generation, and shows that using the P/S service improves the usability of P/S systems. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i6.5391

Abstract

There are two major types of trucks for freight car in Chinese railroad. One is the lower cross-braced truck; the other is the swing motion truck. To evaluate the different performance, diamond resistant rigidity of the lower cross-braced truck and the lateral stiffness of the swing motion truck are analyzed. To simulate the dynamics performance of the swing motion truck, an equivalent lateral stiffness is calculated. Then it is modeled as a lateral spring between side frames and bolstered to simulate the swing. After that, two typical freight cars’ models which use the two types of trucks are built in SIMPACK. The L/V Ratio and Wheel Load Reduction Ratio are chosen for evaluating running safety of the freight car. The simulation results are compared and they prove that the impact force between wheel and rail when the car passing curve can be reduced effectively as the swing motion truck has a better lateral flexible. Therefore, it has a lower L/V ratio under the same running and loading condition. However, the swing leads a larger lateral displacement of the car-body, so the gravity center of loaded car has a larger lateral displacement than the car with lower cross-braced truck; which results to a larger Wheel Load Reduction Ratio. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2204

Abstract

In this competitive scenario of the educational system, the higher education institutes use data mining tools and techniques for academic improvement of the student performance and to prevent drop out. The authors collected data from three colleges of Assam, India. The data consists of socio-economic, demographic as well as academic information of three hundred students with twenty-four attributes. Four classification methods, the J48, PART, Random Forest and Bayes Network Classifiers were used. The data mining tool used was WEKA. The high influential attributes were selected using the tool. The internal assessment attribute in the continuous evaluation process makes the highest impact in the final semester results of the students in our dataset.  The results showed that random forest outperforms the other classifiers based on accuracy and classifier errors. Apriori algorithm was also used to find the association rule mining among all the attributes and the best rules were also displayed.

Abstract

Intrusion Detection is an important aspect to secure the computing systems from different intrusions. To improve the accuracy and to reduce the computational time, this paper proposes a two-phase hybrid method based on the SVM and RNN. In addition, this paper also had a proposal to obtain a few sets of features with a feature selection technique in which the detection performance increases. For the two-phase system, two different feature selection techniques were proposed which solves both the linear dependency and non-linear dependency between the features. In the first phase, the RNN combines with the proposed Joint Mutual Information Maximization (JMIM) based feature selection and in the second phase, the Support Vector Machine (SVM) combines with correlation based feature selection. Extensive simulations are carried out over the proposed system using two different datasets, NSL-KDD and Kyoto2006+. The performance is measured through the performance metrics such as Detection Rate (DR), Precision, False Alarm Rate (FAR), Accuracy and F-Score. Furthermore, a comparative analysis with few recent hybrid frameworks is also enumerated. The obtained results signify the effectiveness of proposed method.

Abstract

The questions and problems of the formation of knowledge bases of intelligent man-machine decision support systems are considered. The neuron-fuzzy model used in the work is described. The need for increasing the efficiency of the neuron-fuzzy model in the formation of knowledge bases is being updated. The task is to develop methods and algorithms for presetting and optimizing the parameters of a fuzzy neural network. To solve difficult formalized tasks, it is necessary to develop decision support systems - expert systems based on a knowledge base. ES developers are constantly faced with the problems of “extraction” and formalization of knowledge, as well as the search for new ways to obtain it. To do this, use the extraction, acquisition and formation of knowledge. Currently, the formation of knowledge bases is relevant for the creation of hybrid technologies - fuzzy neural networks that combine the advantages of neural network models and fuzzy systems. The analysis of the efficiency of the fuzzy neural network carried out in the work showed that the quality of training of the NN largely depends on the choice of the number of fuzzy granules for input drugs. In addition, to use fuzzy information formalized by the mathematical apparatus of fuzzy logic, procedures are required for selecting optimal forms and presetting the parameters of the corresponding membership functions (MF).

Abstract

Motor speed can’t change suddenly during the operation of motor because of inertia. In the short process of motor being not driven by motor controller, the operation of motor can be thought of as a uniform motion process. Making use of this property, it can be estimated next or next several cycles by measuring previous one or several cycles of motor. So the motor speed can be Figured out according to measured cycles. The phase angle can be estimated by zero crossing point of induced electromotive force produced in the running process of motor. Then the magnetic field position is estimated, and the angle measured by position sensors can be replaced by estimated angle. At last, bench test proves that this method can improve the reliability and safety of the motor control and has a good fault tolerance so as to be used as an auxiliary control method in motor control of electric vehicle and realize multi-mode control. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.4005

Abstract

As two fundamental requirements to ensure secure communications over an insecure public network channel, password authentication and update of password have received considerable attention. To satisfy the above two requirements, Islam et al. proposed a password authentication and update scheme based on elliptic curve cryptography. They claimed that their scheme could withstand various attacks. Unfortunately, He et al. found Islam et al.’s scheme is still vulnerable to off-line password guessing attack and stolen-verifier attack. In this paper, a security enhanced scheme is developed to eliminate the identified weaknesses. The analysis shows that our scheme can not only overcome the security vulnerability in Islam et al.’s scheme, but also has better performance than their scheme. Then our scheme is more suitable for practical applications.

Abstract

There is need to fill the gap between two entities which use different languages  to communicate which can be done either via human translation or machine translation means. The world has over 7000 living natural languages, thus making it costly if human translation route is taken hence need for machine translation. There is need to know the available machine translation approaches and their requirement in order to decide which one suits for particular languages or not, hence the motivation for this survey. The survey provide overview and architectures of the three major techniques available namely: rule based translation, corpus based translation and hybrid based translation plus their subcategories available in each approach.
