Abstract

This paper analyze the performance of partial observability in simultaneous localization and mapping(SLAM) problem. The study focuses mainly on the effect of having a decorrelation technique known as Covariance Inflation to the estimation. The matrix inversion will be the main element to be investigated through two conditions with respect to some defined environment namely as unstable partially observable SLAM and partially observable SLAM via matrix norm analysis. For assessment purposes, the Extended Kalman Filter estimation is referred as the estimator to understand how the conditions can influence the results. The simulation results depicted that, the matrix norm is able to determine the efficiency of estimation and is proportional to the uncertainties of the system.

Abstract

This paper suggests the theory of distance protection criteria in power distribution systems for power plant generation. Multi-developed countries have energy power plants that placed in remote areas which are far from the grid line. Hence, they should be coupled to the low power transportation systems necessarily. While higher-rating relays are adopted to preserve feeders at power substations, fuses are merely obtainable outside on feeder channel. The safe system process, space protection is dispatched to save feeders. In this review, feeders with distance relays are equipped, together with over-current protection relays and fuses. Energy power plant having distance protection system is designed the implemented system was a 6-MW unit of compressed power energy reproduction. The sample feeder was shortened to be equal four-bus experiment feeder for transmitting resolution. The fault currents have chances adopted to form protecting regions of distance relays. Protection of the power line through the designed power plants for distance relaying can decrease problem in relay location because of the impedance-based location of the distance relay.

Abstract

The energy management of electrical machine is significant to ensure efficient power consumption. Mismanagement of energy consumption could give impact on low efficiency of energy consumption that leads to power wastage.  This paper presents analysis of power consumption and electricity costing of the electrical machineries and equipment in High Voltage (HV) and Electrical Machine (EM) Laboratories at Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The electrical data are collected using Fluke Meter 1750. Based on the analysis, it is found that the estimated annually electricity cost for HV Laboratory and EM Laboratory are RM 392.00 and RM 3197.76 respectively. For prediction of energy consumption of the two laboratories, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm is applied as computational tool using feedforward network type. The results show that the ANN is successfully modelled to predict the energy consumption.

Abstract

In this paper, performance of relay assisted wireless link is evaluated using VBLAST in the presence of rayleigh fading where source is equipped with two transmit antennas, relay is equipped with multiple transmit and multiple receive  antennas, and destination has multiple receive antennas. The input information are modulated using QPSK or 16 QAM or 64 QAM modulator and modulated information are encoded using VBLAST and then split into streams which are simultaneously transmitted through transmit antennas of source.Relay decodes the rayleigh fading effected signal and re-encodes using VBLAST and forwards for destination. It is observed that relay with 2 transmit antennas and 2/3/4/5/6 receive antennas provides 9-11.5 dB gains compared to direct link. And there are around 3 dB to 11 dB gains for increasing number of receiving antennas at relay and destination from 2 to 3/4/5/ 6. DOI:  http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i8.6031

Abstract

Using a series arrangement of two vacuum interrupters (VIs) has been proved to be an effective way of developing higher voltage vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs), which are known as double-break VCBs. The uniform distribution of the transient recovery voltage (TRV) across each VI is very critical for the breaking capacity of double-break VCBs. In this paper, the TRV distribution characteristics of double-break VCBs was studied by the synthetic test and the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation based on a vacuum arc interruption model. The results show that the bias of the TRV distribution ratio is caused by the stray capacitance and the imbalanced post arc plasma characteristic in each VI, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the negative effect of grading capacitors was discussed. The results show that it is advisable to limit the value of grading capacitors to those ranges which can guarantee sufficiently improve the voltage distribution.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i6.2140

Abstract

In this paper, a novel watermarking technique in contourlet transform (CT) domain is presented. The proposed algorithm takes advantage of a multiscale framework and multi-directionality to extract the significant frequency, luminance and texture component in an image. Unlike the conventional methods in the contourlet domain, mask function is accomplished pixel by pixel by taking into account the frequency, the luminance and the texture content of all the image subbands including the low-pass subband and directional subbands. The adaptive nature of the novel method allows the scheme to be adaptive in terms of the imperceptibility and robustness. The watermark is detected by computing the correlation. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the imperceptibility and the robustness against standard watermarking attacks. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3663

Abstract

An active power filter implemented with a four leg voltage-source inverter using a predictive control scheme is presented. The use of a four leg voltage-source inverter allows the compensation of current harmonic components, as well as unbalanced current generated by single-phase nonlinear loads. A detailed yet simple mathematical model of the active power filter, including the effect of the equivalent power system impedance, is derived and used to design the predictive control algorithm. The compensation performance of the proposed active power filter and the associated control scheme under steady state and transient operating conditions is demonstrated through simulations and experimental results.

Abstract

This paper proposed the elimination of undesired harmonic in a Cascaded H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter by using Selective Harmonic Elimination-Pulse Width Modulation strategy with programmed Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. In Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width Modulation technique, PSO algorithim is used to determine the non-linear transcendental equation to precise obligatory switching angles for eliminate low order harmonics and reduce the Total Harmonic Distortion from the inverter output voltage waveform while maintaining the required fundamental voltage at the desired value. Computational results are validate that the proposed method does competently eliminate the low order harmonics and also resulted in minimum Total Harmonic Distortion value. The results exposed that the proposed method can achieve efficaciously to the optimal solution more rapidly than other algorithms. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7132

Abstract

Crowdfunding allows entrepreneurs raise fund to help subsidizing their project. In other country, crowdfunding platform has become famous. In the contrary, it is yet to be trend in Malaysia. Financing using internet still irrelevant among Malaysian citizen. Without a proper guideline and strong crowdfunding platform based in Malaysia as a benchmark, it is hard to convince entrepreneurs and funders to consider crowdfunding as an option to fund a project. This research thus proposed business model canvas which can be applied by the crowdfunding platform organizations to manage their business and operation more efficiently. Case study method has been employed with two techniques of data collection: interview and document review. Two crowdfunding platforms based in Malaysia participated in the case study. The findings show that both crowdfunding platforms have fundamental business model elements that made of a solid foundation as a crowdfunding platform. These results offer insight into crowdfunding environment and how it links to another necessary part of business for it to function as a successful business. Nine building blocks fits well in the crowdfunding platform business model elements namely partner network, core competency, key resources, value proposition, customer relationship, distribution channel, customer segments, cost structure and revenue stream. Interestingly, the findings revealed another imperative element that should be part of the canvas: risk management.

Abstract

Linear motors are strong candidates in electromagnetic launching technology for space-use. In this paper, two types linear motors, including parallel magnetic circuit linear permanent magnet brushless DC motor (PMC-LPMBDCM) and serial magnetic circuit linear permanent magnet brushless DC motor(SMC-LPMBDCM), have been presented for electromagnetic catapult. The rudimental configurations of these two-type of linear motors are researched respectively. Then the contrast of performance between PMC-LPMBDCM and SMC-LPMBDCM is investigated detailedly. The electromagnetic properties and thrust characteristics are researched by finite element analysis(FEA) and experiment.
