Abstract

In this era of universal electronic connectivity, communication is no more confined to transfer of data from one end to the other; rather it aims at secure data transfer. Communication sector has developed beyond this traditional boundary of data transfer and is now working on ways to provide data from the intended senders to the intended receivers in an unaltered form. Considering all these conditions, the data transfer needs to follow the principles of authentication, confidentiality and integrity. The former two have been addressed using digital signatures and encryption schemes respectively, while the solution to the later is the use of Message Authentication Code. This paper presents a Message Authentication Code scheme, which uses the biological characteristics represented by Deoxyribonucleic acid combined with the output of Blum Blum Shub Random Number Generator, as a secret key along with a novel hash algorithm. This Message Authentication Code structure is evaluated on the basis of National Institute of Science and Technology test suite for random numbers, avalanche criteria and network attacks. The results reveal that the proposed scheme performs well under all the criteria and thus is capable of preserving integrity; this increases its applicability in any data sensitive environment.

Abstract

Rough set theory is used in data mining through complex learning systems and uncertain information decision from artificial intelligence. For multiple attribute decision making, rough sets employ attribute reduction to generate decisive rules. However, dynamic information databases, which record attribute values changing with time, raise questions to rough set based multiple attribute reduction. This paper proposes a dynamic attribute based dominance degree for rough-set-based ranking decision. According to the dominance relations between two objects in dynamic information table, we propose three judgments and their judging values to get a dominance degree value, by which we can deny or approve of the dominance relations. Then we use the dominance-degree-based rough set to make dynamic attribute reduction. We applied this method in ranking popularity of network service resources. and extract ranking decision rules. Experiments show comparison between the searching engines with and without the ranking function and the efficiency of rough set ranking by our proposed dominance degree value.

Abstract

In reverse engineering applications, there is a problem of precise alignment from measured data to a CAD model. This paper presents a new method where the measurement points can be precisely aligned with its corresponding CAD model. Initially, the measured data is aligned approximately through a least-square method with the minimum distance principle. Based on this initial alignment result, the precise alignment is completed through the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm and the Simplex method. The experimental results show that the alignment algorithm proposed in this paper possesses an accuracy of 0.055m and spending less processing time than the genetic algorithm. Therefore, the proposed method is effective for the measured data alignment to the original surface model. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2310

Abstract

A novel method of Peak–to-Average–Power-Ratio reduction is presented in this paper using  WPT  for multi carrier modulationand Riemann matrix for phase sequencing in SLM. Wavelet Packet Multicarrier Modulation(WPM) is a betteralternative to the existing multicarrier transmission system,OFDM system which suffers from high PAPR.Further reduction in Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR)is achieved by using Wavelet Packet Modulation(WPM) with SLM technique. Classical SLM uses random phases for phase rotations which  suffers from the additional load  of transmitting SI(side Information) to receiver. So to overcome a novel method is proposed here  which uses  the principle of varying the phases of the subcarrier data block to be transmitted ,using rows of the normalised Reimann matrix as phase sequence vectors for the Selected Mapping (SLM)Technique. The generated WPM frame with minimum PAPR is selected and transmitted .The proposed system achieves a significant improvement in PAPR reduction over the OFDM-classical SLM and WPM-classical SLM.

Abstract

The size, structure, and composition of a population are affected by the fertility rates at any point of time. Many researchers took the opportunity to exploit the fertility rates in obtaining better fertility patterns for their country. The curve for the age specific fertility rate is consistent, and this feature allows the curve to be matched with a mathematical model. This paper aimed to identify the best mathematical model that fits the recent age specific fertility rate in Peninsular Malaysia. This study fitted the fertility data of Peninsular Malaysia from 1996 to 2014 to the four mathematical models, which were Hadwiger, Gamma, Beta, and Gompertz models. From the comparisons of the four models, it was found that the best fitted mathematical model is Hadwiger model. In relation to the data of early 21st century, there was an inclination for the best fitted mathematical model from Hadwiger model to Beta model. Hence, the best mathematical model for each year can be used to convert a fertility schedule classified in a five-year age group into a fertility schedule for a single-year of age in Peninsular Malaysia. This model also can be helpful for population projections by using limited and defective data.

Abstract

In Ocean investigations, particularly those deployed by the Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, underwater object detection and recognition is an essential task. Edge detection places a key role and considered one of the pre-processing techniques for several deep learning applications. In an underwater environment, the illumination of light, turbulence in the water, suspended particles present in the seafloor are challenging issues to acquire the quality image. The two major problems in underwater imaging are light scattering and color change. In the former case, the vision sensors connected to the underwater vehicles or dive lights used by the divers themselves cause light dispersion and shadows in the seafloor. In the latter case, the occurrence of color distortion is mainly due to the attenuation of the light, hence the images are having dominant colors in the latter case. The conventional techniques are failed to detect the quality edges in the case of underwater images. Our mechanism focused, instead of applying the edge detection algorithm on the input image directly, it is better to apply edge detection algorithm after color correction and contrast enhancement using L*A*B model. Qualitative and quantitative test results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism is giving better results compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract

Word semantic similarity is the foundation of semantic processing, and is a key issue in many applications. This paper argues that word semantic similarity should associate with domain knowledge, which traditional methods did not take into account. In order to adopt domain knowledge into semantic similarity measurement, this paper proposed a sensitive words sets approach. For this purpose, we also propose a new approach for sememe similarity calculation. This method distinguishes three different positional relationships between two sememes, and the results have shown that our method overperformed than other methods based on a Chinese knowledge base ‘HowNet’. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.4416

Abstract

This paper deals with a comparative analysis of various converter topologies for Power Factor Correction (PFC) in BLDC motor drives. A power factor corrected converter is required for improving power quality at the AC mains of an inverter fed BLDC motor drive. Conventionally, the BLDC motor is fed by a diode bridge rectifier (DBR) which results in highly distorted supply current and a poor power factor.  A new bridgeless single-phase ac–dc Cuk derived topology has been introduced for power factor correction. This bridgeless topology uses minimum number of switches and thus reduces the less conduction losses compared with the conventional PFC rectifier. There are three cuk derived configurations for power factor correction. In this paper, all the cuk derived topologies are investigated and compared. The best topology is identified and recommended for PFC in BLDC motor drive.
