Abstract

Non-occlusive blood pressure measurement method is developed to avoid the use of discontinuous and uncomfortable cuff-based methods. In this research, Pulse Transit Time (PTT) and Photoplethysmogram Intensity Ratio (PIR) is used to measure blood pressure. Two photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensors that are placed on the wrist and one of the finger joints both on the left hand is used to get the PTT and PIR. The name of the device is ARTSEN. During measurement, there is a measurement error caused by the hydrostatic effect when the device position is not inline with the heart. To minimize this error, this research proposes an automatic continuous blood pressure monitor. The device will conduct measurement only when the height of the device is inline with the heart. Accelerometer and gyroscope are used to detect the height of the device. There are 30 subjects that are involved in this research. To evaluate the performance of the device, there are two measurement conditions, during lying in the bed and sit down position. The blood pressure measurement is conducted using ARTSEN and sphygmomanometer (as the gold standard of blood pressure measurement). The average error of systolic blood pressure is 8 mmHg with standard deviation 5 mmHg, and average error of diastolic blood pressure is 8 mmHg with standard deviation 4 mmHg.

Abstract

Intrinsic values associated with ICT services activities in productive ageing. Given the advances made in ICT services that have been widely used, elderlies need to be equipped with the knowledge in using the services. The lack of ICT usage among elderlies is because of the low motivation to use the ICT applications. This in turn could be due to the lack of intrinsic values associated with the use of ICT applications among elderlies. This study explores further the features of ICT services needed to support intrinsic values activities. Brainstorming sessions is conducted in this study where it involved six ICT experts in order to identify ICT services features to support intrinsic value activities. Intrinsic motivation features are significant features in ICT services to support intrinsic value activities for productive ageing. There are five intrinsic motivation features identified in this research, which are autonomy, competence, relatedness, altruism and curiosity. The ICT services to support intrinsic value activities model comprises of the ICT services characteristics that are transactive, community-based with online communication channels, and incorporated with intelligent agents.

Abstract

Cantilever energy harvester has become the main structure in piezoelectric energy harvester. There are two different methods to build their model. One is lumped parameter model; the other is distributed parameter model. By building their govern equation and solving them, amplitude-frequency characteristics, power and natural frequency of the model are obtained. Comparison of model frequency and amplitude are made between two models. Problems, scope of application and correct method for energy harvester are also given which provides reliable theoretical reference and makes solid foundation for energy harvester design.

Abstract

Social integrity deficiency has become the main obstacle and prominent bottleneck to the construction of a harmonious society. Under this serious circumstance, paying attention to the problem and finding a solution has become an important issue we are faced with contemporarily. Former studies by some scholars have mainly centered on the basis of regime and education and some conclusions have been made. This paper, from the perspective of Multi-agent system, analyses the behavioral mode of the social integrity system and describes the process of emergence from the micro level to the macro one. Based on the Multi-agent system stimulus-response principle, it constructs the basic behavioral mode of social integrity; based on the adaptive-learning theory, it constructs the whole behavioral mode; and based on the evolution of agent, it constructs the level-emerge mode, which will provide a new point of view for the research of the social integrity system. According to this, some resolutions can be achieved to the issue mentioned above, which builds scientific reasonable policy basis and gives theoretical guidance for the central and local government in solving the widespread lack of social integrity. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i6.2645

Abstract

We report that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be improved by the stochastic resonance (SR) in a tristable system. The system is driven by Gaussian white noise and a sinusoidal signal, and studied by using the second-order Runge-Kutta method. We find that the SNR gain exhibits the stochastic resonance behavior, and greatly exceeds unity on some occasions. This result is the latest development of the tristable stochastic resonance, and has potential applications in the signal detection, processing and communications.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3712

Abstract

Human behavior is essentially social and humans start their daily routines by interacting with others. There are many forms of social interactions and we have used mobile phone based social interaction features and social surveys for finding human stress behavior. For this, we gathered mobile phone call logs data set containing 111444 voice calls of 131 adult members of a living community for a period of more than 5 months. And we identified that top 5 social network measures like hierarchy, density, farness, reachability and eigenvector of individuals have profound influence on individuals stress levels in a social network. If an ego lies in the shortest path of all other alters then the ego receives more information and hence is more stressed. In this paper, we have used TreeNet machine learning algorithm for its speed and immune to outliers. We have tested our results with another Random Forest classifier as well and yet, we found TreeNet to be more efficient. This research can be of vital importance to economists, professionals, analysts, and policy makers.

Abstract

This work derives new results for the anti-synchronization of 4D identical Rabinovich hyperchaotic systems by using two strategies: active and nonlinear control. The stabilization results of error dynamics systems are established based on Lyapunov second method. Control is designed via the relevant variables of drive and response systems.  In comparison with previous strategies, the current controller (Nonlinear control) focused on the minimum possible limits for relevant variables. The better performance is realizing the anti- synchronization by designing a control with low terms. After obtaining analytical results of the proposed controller, numircal simulation is carried out using Matlab. The graphical results prove validity and applicability of proposed control without know any parameter. The proposed control has certain significance for reducing the time and complexity for strategy implementation.

Abstract

Due to the impact of pollution, environment and so on in actual scene, it is difficult for the traditional single feature recognition model to obtain a higher accuracy of the license plate recognition. The paper proposed a new license plate image recognition model. First, the structural features and gray level features of the license plate, such as the contour and stroke order are extracted. Then, the principal component analysis is used to carry out the fusion, dimensionality reduction and redundancy removal processing for the two kinds of features, and a fuzzy fusion model for differentiated features is introduced to ensure minimal loss for the feature in fusion. Finally, the final result of the license plate image recognition is achieved in accordance with high degree of confidence criterion when the slope interference of the license plate is considered fully. Simulation results show that the license plate image recognition model based on multi-feature combination can solve the problem of the single feature recognition model, improve the accuracy of license plate recognition which is up to 99%. Moreover, the model has a faster recognition speed and can be applied to the actual license plate recognition. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4307

Abstract

This paper introduces a new algorithm based on machine vision for the recognition of hand gesture. In step 1, the Microsoft Kinect sensor is used to capture color images and depth. User’s hand detected by eliminating the background and rescaling image. In the next step, “Scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT)” algorithm is used for the feature extraction. The extracted feature vectors are built in vocabulary tree with K-means clustering. Finally, Hand gesture is recognized by a recognition high-level method called stochastic context-free grammar (SCFG). SCFG is used for syntactic structure analysis that is based on hand gesture recognition, that is combined postures can be analyzed and recognized by a set of production rules. SCFG is most effective in disambiguate. By this approach, we are able to recognize various gestures in 30 frames per seconds (fps) and with more than 90 % accuracy. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v15i1.8091
