Abstract

In order to achieve high-precision clock synchronization among instrument nodes in distributed LXI bus test systems. A Hardware time stamping method for PTP messages is introduced in this paper. It is implemented in Linux systems, which runs on ARM9 S3C2440 processor. The special PHYTER DP83640 is used to mark the time of PTP messages in physical layer. The new socket option SO_TIMESTAMPING is used to obtain the hardware timestamps in user space programming. A clock synchronization test has been done after transplanting the open source protocol software PTPd on this platform. The results indicate that this method is feasible. It is able to achieve nanosecond level clock synchronization accuracy. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i9.3255

Abstract

In isolated type LLC resonant converters, transformer leakage inductances can be merged with the resonant inductor to extend the ZVS capability of the switches apart from isolation and voltage scaling. However, the transformer presents a resonant imbalance in the secondary side leading to secondary current unbalance, an increase in RMS value of the secondary current and increase thermal stress. This paper proposed a half-bridge non-isolated LLC resonant converter with a balanced rectifying current and stress in the rectifier diodes. The proposed converter can achieve the most advantages of isolated LLC converters, such as ZVS and low MOSFET turn-off loss. By the non-isolation method, secondary current and, transformer loss is significantly reduced. In addition, rectifier diodes operate with zero current switching and balanced rectifying current and stress over the entire operating range. The proposed non-isolated structure is verified by the experimental result with a 60W LLC resonant converter.

Abstract

For the current transformers (CTs) on the delta side measure the line current instead of the phase current, line current differential protection is adopted in transformers connected in wye-delta mode currently. However, the symmetry feature of inrush current in line current differential protection may invalidate the inrush current restrained criterion. A calculating method of current through delta windings according the measured current from CT is proposed in this paper. Using this calculated current, phase current differential protection can be realized. Based on the method an adaptive second harmonic restrained scheme for magnetizing inrush current is presented. The scheme not only adaptively adjusts the secondary harmonic ratio of restrained current but also guarantees the fast action when transformers with internal faults are no-load energized. Consequently the performance of transformer differential protection is greatly improved. Simulation results in Matlab/Simulink validate the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i6.1413

Abstract

Suitable diagnostic techniques for outdoor glass insulators are important for ensuring the reliablilty and stability of power system. The possibility of insulator flash-over increases, especially when the insulator is covered by pollution layers or has an internal defect. In this paper, a new technique to detect the pollution level and invisible damage by measuring the surface temperature of glass disc insulators is proposed. A high definition camera had been used to determine the surface temperatures of four glass insulators. The effects of applied voltage on the surface temperature and its distribution were studied. The results show the possibility of using the infrarad camera to detect the aging level and invisible damages of the glass insulators.

Abstract

A H.264 standard is one of the most popular coding standard with significant improvement in video broadcasting and streaming application. However it’s significant in compression but needs huge calculation and complex algorithm for providing better image quality and compression rate. In H.264 coding technique, designing of decoder is a key factor for efficient coding. In this paper we are designing a decoder using a complex input. We ensured several improvement like looping arrangement, buffer upgradation, buffer supplement, memory reusability and pipelining architecture. We have modified the memory structure also. Our designed decoder achieves a better frame decoding efficiency against state-of-art methods. The proposed approach also provides good area optimization with a maximum frequency of 355 MHz.

Abstract

When calibration model express camera status well, calibration result will be accurate. How to select optimal calibration model for different camera by program is significant to calibrate automatically. A method of selecting optimal calibration model was proposed in this paper. First, the models including enough possible status were selected from physical models and Chebyshev models. These models would be taken as the input of our method. Second, candidate calibration models were obtained by variance detection. Third, optimal calibration model was extracted by utilizing detection of minimum description length. Experimental results show that calibration residuals is lowest via optimal model, computation error of principle distance is no more than 0.2 pixels and variance lies in the bounds of 0.5 pixels. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i6.5447

Abstract

To solve the problem of the inaccurate segmentation for the gray image, a modified algorithm based on the mean shift is introduced. The modified algorithm constructs a novel kernel function histogram by combing the position information and the gray-scale information of a pixel, and then makes use of the mean shift algorithm with this new kernel function histogram to automatically detect the modes in the gray-scale image, which could be constructed fully by the kernel function defined above, filter and segment the gray image. Experiments based on a gray image with ground background are carried out by Canny, Sobel and the proposed mean shift method, and the results show that the mean shift algorithm could effectively extract not only bright object but also weak object, and the result of the introduced algorithm is more fit factual scene than that of the usual segmentation algorithm such as Canny and Sobel algorithm. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2223

Abstract

With a rapid growth in semiconductor Industry, complex applications are being implemented using small size chips, with the use of Complementary Metal Oxide Semi-Conductors (CMOS). With the introduction of new Integrated Circuit (IC) technology, the speed of the circuits has been increased by around 30%. But it was observed that for every two years, the power dissipation of a circuit doubles. The main reason for this power dissipation is leakage currents in the circuit. To reduce these leakage currents, we can reduce the width of the device. In addition to this, we can use lector techniques that use Leakage Control Transistors (LCT) and High Threshold Leakage Control Transistors(HTLCT). In this paper, we present a circuit technique that uses 130 nano-meter CMOS VLSI circuits that use two extra transistors to mitigate the leakage currents. The estimation of power and delay will be discussed using LCT’s and HTLCT’s

Abstract

Comparing fuzzy numbers is an essential process in deducing the output of many fuzzy decision making methods. One of the comparison methods commonly used is by using similarity measure. The main advantage of the similarity measure over other approaches is its ability to minimize the loss of information in the computational process. Several similarity measures have been applied effectively in fuzzy decision making methods. In this paper, a new similarity measure based on the geometric distance, the center of gravity, Hausdorf distance and the set theoretic similarity formula known as the Dice similarity index are incorporated into the Extended Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS) method particularly in calculating the closeness coefficients. This similarity measure is in favor of others as it is able to discriminate two similar shape fuzzy numbers effectively with two different locations. A validation process is carried out by implementing the proposed procedure of the Extended FTOPSIS with the new similarity measure in solving a supplier selection problem and the ranking outcome is then compared with the Extended FTOPSIS with other existing similarity measure. The result shows that the Extended FTOPSIS with the proposed similarity measure gives a consistent result without reducing any information in the computational process.
