Abstract

This paper presents proposed handover scenarios for a heterogeneous network comprising mobile worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access and Wireless Local Area Network segments. Homogenous handover scenarios for a mobile WiMAX network are also considered to allow a comparative analysis. A mobile node supporting voice traffic is analysed, when operating in a half-cell overlap coverage scenario, for both pedestrian and vehicular speeds. All proposed handover scenarios are assessed and validated through system-level Media Independent Handover network simulations. Results for both homogenous and heterogeneous handover show that the handover delay and jitter are within the acceptable values published by the WiMAX Forum. For heterogeneous handover, the packet loss is negligible for all cases; however, there were significant occurrences of packet loss in throughput for homogenous handover at vehicular speeds. This is due to the fact that the implementation of an adaptive channel scanning algorithm to allocate scanning intervals can limit communication disruptions.

Abstract

Cloud computing is a new computing and business paradigm with flexible and powerful computational architecture to offer universal services to users via Internet. Web service is one of the most active and widely adopted implementation in cloud computing. The performance of the scheduling system influences the benefits of both sides in this computing paradigm. In this paper, we present an intelligent scheduling system for web service, which considers both the requirements of different service requests and the circumstances of the computing infrastructure which consists of various resources. We have validated our hardware based server WSVP by conducting a performance comparison to the traditional Apache and Nginx servers. The results demonstrate that our WSVP equipped with intelligent scheduling system has immense potential as it offers better performance while consumes much lower energy.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i6.2118

Abstract

Aiming at the new-generation video compression standard being formulated—HEVC, a kind of sub-pixel interpolation filtering algorithm is proposed (luminance: 1/4 precision, chrominance: 1/8 precision). Based on the algorithm, a hardware design with pipeline structure and high degree of parallelism is put forward. The hardware overhead is reduced by multiplex Wiener filter and the reduction of the size of register array. And the interpolation order of vertical priority is adopted to reduce the reading bandwidth of the storage. It is indicated from the performance analysis that this interpolation structure possesses better performance and smaller hardware overhead. This design also takes full consideration of the balance between speed and area, meeting the requirements of processing standard definition and high definition video image. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3676

Abstract

Due to rapid growth of unstructured data in contemporary information world, there is an essence of big data infrastructure for many applications spread across domains, due to the different source information type and huge volume, data ingestion and data retrieval is important activity during this process data security is a vital to protect user data, in connection with this, authors proposed a big data security architecture using split and merge security method in big data environment using hadoop. This work will help Data security professionals and organizations implementing big data projects.

Abstract

Active Shape Models (ASM) are applied to the attachment hooks of several species of Gyrodactylus, including the notifiable pathogen G. salaris, to assign each species to its truespecies type. Linear (i.e. LDA and K-NN) andnon-linear (i.e. MLP and SVM) models are used to classify Gyrodactylus species. Speciesof Gyrodactylus, ectoparasitic monogenetic flukes of fish, are difficult to discriminate andidentify according to morphology alone and their speciation currently requires taxonomicexpertise. The current exercise sets out to confidently classify species, which in this example includes a species which is a notifiable pathogen of Atlantic salmon, to their true classwith a high degree of accuracy. The findings from the current exercise demonstrates thatimport of ASM data into a MLP classifier, outperforms several other methods of classification (i.e. LDA, K-NN and SVM) that were assessed, with an average classification accuracyof 98.72%. Abstract

This paper presents a review of an adaptive overcurrent protection scheme in a distribution network with the integration of distributed energy resources. The rapid integration of distributed energy resources brings challenges to the existing overcurrent protection system. The impacts are change in fault current magnitude and direction of current flow from radial to the multi-source dynamic network, which causes changes in network topology, inaccurate fault detection, and loss of coordination among protection systems. In this paper, the solution identified for reliable operation of overcurrent protection in the distribution network are network topology estimation, fault detection, and adaptive coordination.

Abstract

High dimensional data is usually produced by the source that only enjoys a limited number of degrees of freedom. Manifold leaning technique plays an important part in finding the correlation among the high dimensional data datasets. By making use of manifold alignment, the paired mapping relationship can be explored easily. However, the common manifold alignment algorithm can only give the mapping result of the training set, and cannot deal with a new coming point. A new manifold alignment algorithm is proposed in this paper. The benefit of our algorithm is two fold: First, the method is a semi-supervised approach, which makes better use of the local geometry information of the unpaired points and improves the learning effect when the labeled proportion is very low. Second, an extended spectral aggression trick is used in the algorithm, which can produce a linear mapping between the raw data space and the aligned space. The experiments result shows that, the correlation mapping can be precisely obtained, the hidden space can be aligned effectively, and the cost of mapping a coming point is very low. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i4.4808

Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to configure a cluster computing system to improve performance over that of a single computer, while typically being much more cost-effective than single computers of comparable speed. High performance computing more and more issued in all kinds of fields. But, for the common user, there are several questions on implementing the process of competing on the specialized clusters: such as expense high, management difficulty and operation complex and so on. To overcome these problems, this article designs and realizes the high performance computing environment based on Linux cluster after studying the key technology of cluster and parallel computing. Finally, the performance of system environment is tested by interactive version of CPI algorithm. Before discussion on HPC the cluster computing system with its classification, the advantages and application of clustering system will also be discussed here. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i3.7798

Abstract

Based on the two-dimension cellular automaton traffic flow model (BML model), a mixed traffic flow model for urban traffic considering the transit traffic is established in this paper by using the Don't block the box rules. We have investigated the influences of the transit traffic ratio, and found that, in most cases, the urban traffic flow exhibited jam phase. Moreover, focusing on the traffic lights cycle, it is found that the average flow has the periodic fluctuation phenomenon, and we have explained this periodical oscillation change under different boundary conditions. The comparison to practical measured data shows that our stimulation results are accordant with the changes of real traffic flow, which confirms the accuracy and rationality of our model. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i8.1627

Abstract

To increase the accuracy and the efficacy of client satisfaction degree of railway statistic information system, we give an AHP-based comprehensive assessment about satisfaction degree of information system, hoping to solve problems about evaluation difficulties of multi-index, multi-criteria and multi-level. Since the conventional AHP-based method is affected by subjective factors, we develop an enhanced AHP method to decrease limitations of conventional methods. Our method, still based on expert scoring, perform cluster analysis of scoring data, apply the clustering method of Euclid Distance with Weight to eliminate scores with the largest divergence, and utilize the AHP method and Function of Weight Average to obtain weight of evaluation index, which is useful to improve the accuracy and efficacy and can enhance effects of the more pivotal evaluation index on results. Finally, we prove its rationality and reliability in an evaluation of client satisfaction degree of railway statistic information system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.3409
