Welding robot has played an extremely important role in the welding production of high-quality, high-efficiency. The paper designed the hardware structure and software of spot welding robot. The hardware design mainly includes the major modules of arm and base; the hardware design includes two parts: manual mode and automatic mode. Manual mode is generally used for the robot system installation, commissioning and troubleshooting, and the major modules are controlled by the start of the corresponding button; automatic mode is mainly used for production stage. The welding robot uses PLC for controlling; the system runs faster and has a short production cycle. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i11.2899

Capacitor bank is a collection of power tools in the form of a capacitor that serves as a tool that can reduce or improve reactive power into the power grid. The load on the electricity network in general is an inductive load. If the average power factor (cos ϴ) is less than 0.85, the State Electricity Company will provide the reactive power in KVAR fines usage charges on customers. An effort should be done to reduce the reactive power. An installation of bank capacitor is suitable to be implemented in an industry AC loads. It will reduce the reactive power and improve the power factor. In the case of 380 V, 50 Hz, 500 kW AC loads are improved the power factor from 0.7 to 0.93 using genetic algorithm, thus the AC loads current and reactive power will be decreased. It is suitable that the AC loads current is inversely proportional to the power factor, and the reactive power is proportional to the AC loads current.

Polymer insulators tend to fail because of the climatic and environmental conditions. The failure occurs when the surface of insulator is contaminated by sea salt or cement dust which lead to partial discharge (PD). Leakage currents will increase by PD that causes deterioration of insulation. To predict the insulation failures, an adaptive neurofuzzy inference system (ANFIS) method using initial color detection processes are proposed to estimate the leakage currents based on the polymer insulator thermal images (infrared signature). In this study, the sodium chloride and kaolin are used as pollutants of the polymer insulator according to IEC 60507 standards. Then, the insulator is tested in the laboratory using AC high voltage applied at 18 kV where the temperature detection is controlled at 26° C and 70% RH (relative humidity). The percentage of colors (Red, Yellow, and Blue) from the thermal image is measured using the color detection method. Correspond to the color percentage, the ANFIS method predicts leakage currents from polymer insulators. Furthermore, this system interprets measured data from insulators that need to be categorized as Safe, Need Maintenance or Harmful. The final application of the system can be a non-contact tool to predict the polymer insulators used by technicians in the field.

In the present study, genetic algorithm has been used to resolve the placement of wind turbines in a wind park giving maximum power and efficiency with minimum number of turbines. Unlike past approaches where each plot was subdivided into smaller square grids at the centre of which a turbine can be placed, the present study does not require division of the plot. Thus, a turbine now has more flexibility to be placed anywhere outside a radius of 200m of each other yielding better results. The case of unidirectional uniform wind is considered and 600 individuals evolve 3000 generations. Along with the optimal layout, fitness value, total power output, efficiency and number of turbines have also been reported. Comparison with results of earlier study and possible explanation is also provided.

In the paper, In order to meet the needs of high-speed and high- accuracy computerized numerical control machining and guarantee the smooth running in the interpolation processing, A NURBS curve calculation based on adaptive acceleration and deceleration control of look-ahead s-shaped for the real-time interpolation is presented in this paper. The algorithm has merits such as higher position accuracy, short processing time, no variation and so on. Through dynamic path simulation and interpolation results analyses with MATLAB, the interpolation algorithm is proved to be correct and rational. Through actual machining by OPEN platform with VC++, the algorithm is proved to be real-time and practicable. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i5.2482

Internet of Things and Machine-to-Machine communications have contributed significantly on our daily life. Nevertheless, from the networking aspect they introduced a huge challenge for the performance and quality of services of networks. In this paper, a Distributed Queuing Access for LTE protocol was analyzed to enhance the random access performance for Machine to machine (M2M) applications. The M2M communications presented countless solicitations that can over-burden the access channel of the present LTE network. This prompts to an expansion in the collision probability and results in a noteworthy access delay. The introduced protocol does improve the performance of Medium access layer in terms of blocking probability, access delay, energy utilization and number of re-transmissions attempts in comparison with the standard LTE protocol without altering the existing LTE outline structure. The new protocol is intended to ensure that the random access procedure of the ordinary UE gadget will not be affected bringing about consistent implementation for the proposed convention.

The restrained use of millimeter bands is due to severe rain attenuation. Attenuation is caused when rain cells intersects radio wave’s propagation path; resulting in deep fades. The effect of rainfall is more severe in tropical regions characterized by heavy rainfall intensity and large raindrops; hence, rain attenuation analyses are essential to study rain fade characteristics for use in earth-space link budget analysis, for outage prediction resulting from rain attenuation. Tropical regions are particularly challenged with signal outage, necessitating the formulation and development of suitable prediction model(s) for the region. Therefore, extensive knowledge of the propagation phenomena mitigating system availability and signal quality in these bands are required. Daily rainfall data were collected from the Nigerian Meteorological Services for Lagos for spanning January to December 2010. Results showed that although, the ITU-R model out-performed the other prediction models under consideration, none of prediction models matched the measurement data.

Voltage instability analysis in electric power system is one of the most important factors in order to maintain the equilibrium of the power system. A power system is said to be unstable if the system is not able to maintain the voltage at all buses in the system remain unchanged after the system is being subjected to a disturbance. The research work presented in this paper is about the analysis of voltage instability of electric power system by using voltage stability margin (VSM), load real power (P) margin, reactive power (Q) margin, reactive power-voltage (QV) and real power-voltage (PV) modal analysis. IEEE 30-bus system has been chosen as the power system. The load flow analysis are simulated by using Power World Simulator software version 16. Both QV and PV modal analysis were done by using MATLAB application software.
