Abstract

This paper presents a cost-effective vector control strategy for four switch three phase (FSTP) inverter fed a synchronous reluctance motor with conventional rotor (SynRM) drive. The reduction of the number of power switches from six to four improves the cost-effectiveness, volume-compactness and reliability of the three phase inverters. In this paper, a simulation model of the drive system is developed and analyzed in order to verify the effectiveness of the approach. The application of vector control to a SynRM at maximum torque control (MTC) operation is presented with emphasis on the effects of saturation and iron losses are briefly considered. A PI controller is used to process the speed error. Two independent hysteresis current controllers with a suitable hysteresis band are utilized for inverter switches signals. A simplified steady-state d-q model including saturation and iron losses is presented. Simulation results show that the drive system provides a fast speed response and good disturbance rejection capability. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i11.3366

Abstract

This paper presents an antenna as a humidity sensor application to control and monitor the quality of humidity. A passive sensor tag with low cost solution is suggested where it implemented on a low-cost substrate, FR4.  A capacitive sensor that works from 0 to 1.5 GHz is implemented in the design. The capacitive sensor is designed based on a small antenna loaded with a Split ring resonator (SRR). To sense the humidity, the SRR resonator is coated with Kapton, placed on the top of the resonator. To validate the proposed method, a prototype was fabricated. The comparison between simulated and measured reflection coefficient is presented.

Abstract

An innate test emerging in any dataset containing data of space as well as time is vulnerability due to different wellsprings of imprecision. Incorporating the effect of the instability is a principal while evaluating the unwavering quality (certainty) of any question result from the hidden information. To bargain with vulnerability, arrangements have been proposed freely in the geo-science and the information science look into group. This interdisciplinary instructional exercise crosses over any barrier between the two groups by giving an exhaustive diagram of the distinctive difficulties required in managing indeterminate geo-spatial information, by looking over arrangements from both research groups, and by distinguishing likenesses, cooperative energies and open research issues.

Abstract

Nowadays, a controller that improves the power factor (PF) is automatically designed and implemented to correct the value of the power factor once they falls below a certain one. In industry, day by day, there is an increase in the use of domestic applications and inductive loads such that they consider the essential reason whose responsible on lowering the power factor. Therefore a development method is needed to improve the power factor by adding manually variable capacitors or automatically.  Fuzzy algorithm can be used as an intelligent system to estimate the value of the capacitor that should be added to compensate the effect of inductors. In this work, sixteen level of power factor are corrected automatically by new way through using Arduino Uno that programed with the aid of Fuzzy logic idea. A bank of four capacitors with different values is used and the Fuzzy helps taking the decision of which capacitors be ON or OFF. Here, the correction of power factor is from 0.64 to 0.98, and each level gives an increment of 0.02125 in PF. The experimental results are very close to the theoretical one, and the cost is very acceptable since the circuit is built from cheap equipments such as Arduino, potential transformer, relays, zero crossing circuit and current transformer. In addition, the maximum error due to the difference between the capacitor theoretical calculation and the practical is about 4.1%, while the error between the desired and the result value of PF is about 4.08% for maximum.

Abstract

A Single phase medium voltage power cable (XLPE)  buried in soil and it can be used to investigate electric field, potential distribution and increased temperature of the cable insulation with rising load currents, are known to accelerate the formation of water and electric trees in cables which ultimately lead to cables failure. To determine the thermal and electrical behavior of a given wet cable installation. The work presented in this paper involves the use of COMSOL multiphysics Finite Element software to develop an integrated electrical, thermal model with 3 micro meter water bubble radius. The presence of water tree results in the reduction of their dielectric strength. Here the Finite Element simulation technique is used to 11 kV and 20 kV power cables. A model that illustrates the water-dielectric interface within the cable insulation system is proposed.

Abstract

This paper introduced the permanent magnet synchronous motor mathematical model, using the vector control principle combined with decoupling control to effectively cancel out the rotating electromotive force in the motor model. Aiming at the traditional PI controller of varying parameters and nonlinear problems, proposed a fuzzy adaptive PI controller and then applied to speed cycle, PI controller parameters on-line self-regulation is achieved. Abstract

Load profile for residential users is different from commercial users where peak load occurs outside of work hours compared to working hours. Consequently, the Time of Use-based electricity price must be different not only in terms of price, but also in terms of time block structure. This paper examines the impacts of different TOU structures on TOU prices and load profiles of residential consumer. Four TOU structures are tested on the real load profile for a selected residential consumer area in Malaysia. Two elasticity factors are used for each structure to represent two different groups of users, a group that responds highly to price changes and a group that does not. The TOU price set for each structure is determined optimally subject to the following constraints; the price difference between the TOU and a fixed price per hour should be minimized and the amount of difference between price increase and price drop should be equal. From the analysis, the TOU structure with 12-time blocks provides better price signals and peak load reduction.

Abstract

Yoruba as a language has passed through generation reformations making some of the old documents in the archive to be unreadable by the present readers. Apart from this, some Yoruba writers usually mixed English numerals while writing due to brevity and conciseness of English numerals compare to Yoruba numerals which are combination of several characters. Re-typing such historical documents may be time consuming, therefore a need for an efficient Optical Character Reader (OCR) which will not only  effectively recognize Yoruba texts but also converts all the English numerals in the document to Yoruba numerals.Several Optical Character Reader (OCR) systems had been developed to recognize characters or texts of some languages such as English, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, however, despite the significant contribution of Yoruba language to historical documentation and communication, it was observed that there is no particular OCR system for the language. In this paper correlation and template matching techniques were used to develop an OCR for the recognition of Yoruba based texts and convert English numerals in the document to Yoruba numerals. Abstract

The paper presents a novel approach based on Minimax approximation and evolutionary tool Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to fabricate the parameters of Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) for multi machine power systems. The proposed approach employs PSO algorithm for find the setting of PSS parameters. The worth mentioning feature of this work is the formulation of objective function with the help of swing curves interpolation. A novel transformation known as minimax approximation is used for converting the objective into the polynomials of degree one, two and three. To construct the objective function based on interpolation second order sensitivity analysis is performed. The performance of the PSSs is tested under different topological changes, operating conditions and system configurations. Nonlinear simulation reveals that proposed PSSs are effectively deal with local and interarea modes of oscillations. Abstract

The paper concentrates on the equivalent simplification method for the micro-grid system connection into distributed network. The equivalent simplification method proposed for interaction study between micro-grid and distributed network. Micro-grid network, composite load, gas turbine synchronous generation, wind generation are equivalent simplification and parallel connect into the point of common coupling. A micro-grid system is built and three phase and single phase grounded faults are performed for the test of the equivalent model of micro-grid. The simulation results show that the equivalent model of micro-grid is effective, and the dynamic of equivalent model is similar with the detailed model of micro-grid. The equivalent simplification method for the micro-grid network and distributed components is suitable for the study of micro-grid. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i9.3307
