Abstract

Free-space optical (FSO) links provide high speed point-to-point wireless communication, but its availability can easily be affected by weather conditions. In heavy rainfall regions, FSO links are relatively sensitive to rain. Availability prediction of FSO is indispensable part, especially in tropical areas. In this paper, methods to predict FSO link availability are presented. The overall performance of FSO link is described in terms of the availability that can be achieved over anticipated link distance. The availability prediction methods demonstrated for an FSO link ranges up to 5 km. The availability prediction methods are based on long-term statistics of atmospheric attenuations and FSO link budget under tropical climate condition. In tropical regions, for a terrestrial FSO link, carrier class availability can be achieved over a few hundred meters only; whereas enterprise class availability can be achieved over a few kilometers link distances.

Abstract

Due to the advancement in the semiconductor technologies, DC-DC converters are gaining the importance in several industrial applications. They form the core of the switched mode power supplies which are used in real time applications. The performance of the conventional converter is affected by the parasitic elements and their voltage gain is also limited. To improve upon this, Super lift converters converter were developed by Luo. Voltage lift technique increases the voltage in geometric progression .These super lift converter are classified as positive output and negative output which are further classified into different series. In this paper series of Positive output Super lift converter topologies are analyzed. The proportional –integral controller is employed to theses converter in the paper. These converters boost the voltage up to three times the input voltage and gaining importance in Electric vehicles and Solar powered applications. The simulations are carried in PSIM.

Abstract

This paper proposes a multidisciplinary multi-objective optimization method for vehicle Crashworthiness design. Multi-objective optimization methods are discussed. Considering the objective functions with difference dimensions, we improve -method based on normalizes objective function. As the numerical example, the vehicle crashworthiness design problem is calculated, and we compare the results with SO method, interior point method and active-set method, where interior point method and active-set method are based the improved -method. Examples indicate that this algorithm has less number of iteration than the others. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.3832

Abstract

Multiple sequence alignment (MSA) is a technique for finding similarity in many sequences. This technique is very important to support many Bioinformatics task such as identifying Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) and metagenome fragments binning. The simplest algorithm in MSA is Star Algorithm. The complexity of DNA multiple sequence alignment using dynamic programming technique is very high. This research aims to accelerate computation of Star Mutiple Sequence Alignment using Message Passing Interfaces (MPI). The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by calculating speedup. Experiment was conducted using 64 sequences of 800 bp Glycine-max-chromosome-9-BBI fragments yielded by randomly cut from reference sequence of Glycine-max-chromosome-9-BBI taken from NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information). The results showed that the proposed technique could obtain speedup three times using five computers when aligning 64 sequences of Glycine-max-chromosome-9-BBI fragments.  Moreover, the increasing of the number of computers would significantly increased speedup of the proposed. http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i12.6572

Abstract

Unified power flow controller (UPFC), as one of the most important FACTS devices, can be used to increase the damping of power system oscillation. The effect rate of this controller on increasing oscillation damping depends on the appropriate selection of input controlling signal, optimal selection of UPFC controlling parameters, and its proper position in power system. In this paper, the capability of different UPFC inputs is studied by utilizing singular value decomposition (SVD) method and the best UPFC input controlling signal is selected. Supplementary control parameters are also optimally selected by PSO algorithm. This method's accuracy is simulated on a single-machine system connected to infinite bus.

Abstract

Teaching evaluation plays a key role for universities to improve its teaching quality and becomes a hotspot research field for related researchers. The paper takes university English teaching for example and presents a new model for evaluating English course teaching based on improved BP neural network. Firstly an evaluation indicator system of university English teaching is designed through analyzing the aspects of teaching effects and teacher factors and student factors. Secondly, BP Neural network is improved by improving its Non-monotone linear search and adaptive step change to overcome its shortages of low convergence in calculation. Thirdly data from of some universities are taken for examples to verify the validity and feasibility of the model and the experimental results show that the model can evaluate university English teaching practically and can help university and English teachers take corresponding concrete measures to enhance its education performance. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i8.3085

Abstract

This research investigates the insulation properties of poly methyl methacrylate with titanium dioxide (PMMA:TiO2) nanodielectric film to be used as insulation layer in high voltage (HV) applications. AC and DC breakdown test has been conducted to investigate the insulation properties of PMMA:TiO2 nanodielectric to be used as solid insulation in HV. In this research, the PMMA:TiO2 nanodielectric film were prepared by varying the annealing temperature (60°C up to 180°C) and spin coating techniques wwere used to form the PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite film. The insulation properties of the nanocomposite film were characterized using high voltage test (DC and AC breakdown strength) to identify which nanocompoiste film has the good insulation properties. In addition, different types of electrodes are also used to to measure the insulation properties of nanocompoiste film. The structural properties of PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite films were characterized using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results from HV test shows that the annealing temperature affected the insulation properties PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite film. By increasing the annealing temperature, the insulation properties decreased. Film anneal at 120 oC has the good insulation compare to other temperature. 120 oC are the optimize temperature to prepared the PMMA:TiO2 nanocomposite films. Result from different types of electrodes show that sharp tip has high DC breakdown strength compare to spherical electrodes.

Abstract

A Machine vision for string detection is useful technologies which benefit to the industries such as food production. It reduces the risk that can harmful to our health and it can do work more accurate and efficient. The algorithm used is a colour detection which determines the colour of string and background subtraction for filter process by using the threshold range values. The target of detection focuses on plastic string with two different colours; pink and yellow strings. The threshold values used in hardware detection are ranged from 158 to 175 and 3 to 35 for pink and yellow string colours, respectively. The result shows that an object tied with strings is able to be detected and captured by using this system. Overall, this project is successfully developed and achieved the goal for real time detecting a string which is implemented on FPGA.

Abstract

Software requirements with its functional and non-functional methods are the first important phase in producing a software system with free errors. The functional requirements are the visual actions that may easily evaluated from the developer and from the user, but non-functional requirements are not visual and need a lot of efforts to be evaluated. One of the main important non-functional requirements is security, which focuses on generating secure systems from strangers. Evaluating the security of the system in earlier steps will help to reduce the efforts of reveals critical system threats. Security threats found because of leaking of security scenarios in requirement phase. In this paper, we purpose an intelligent model to extract and evaluate security features from scenarios based on set of security system goals and a set of security requirements saved on rich story scenarios dataset (RSSD). This model will used a support vector machine (SVM) classifier to classify the security requirement based on RSS dataset.  The using of SVM will enhance the overall process of evaluating the security requirements. The results show a significant enhancement in security improvements.
