Abstract

IEEE 802.11b/g/n WLAN with conventional ESS infrastructure doesn’t support handover feature. Handover feature allows user to migrate services between APs without losing connection. Handoff latency is one problem in WLAN to perform real-time application such as VoIP. To bring seamless handover and QoS guarantee in ESS network, we propose five network optimization methods i.e.configuring overlapping area of APs, placing APs in one roaming domain, using the same SSID and security mode, choosing APs channel by margin of 5, and configuring APs as DHCP forwarder. Handover test is done by sniffing on the client that experienced handover. In the result, there are three steps in Layer 2 handoff, i.e. probing, authentication, and re-association with maximum handoff latency is 325.02 ms in data services and 67.412 ms in VoIP. In VoIP services, one way delay is 39.985 - 49.18 ms, one way jitter is 9.45 - 19.57 ms, and the packet loss is 0 - 0.548%. Overall, the built network system is able to guarantee QoS in handover case, both in data and VoIP services.

Abstract

A reference currentdetection algorithm based on synchronous reference frame transformation and discrete Fourier transformation is presented for STATCOM (Static SynchronousCompensator) to provide synthetic compensation. The proposed algorithm can be used to extract reactive currents, unbalanced currents and characteristic harmonic currents from the load currents in real time. This algorithm allows the simultaneous compensation of two current harmonics with just one regulator, yieldinga significant reduction of the computational effort compared with other methods. Abstract

Morbidity risk is linked to the health status or a disease within a population. Morbidity risk is the risk of illness associated with health status or disease within a population. Cancer is one of the prime causes of both morbidity and mortality in majority of countries worldwide. In year 2016, the probability of Malaysian diagnosed with cancer before they reach age 75 is one over four. It has been reported that lung cancer has the highest deaths and it increased by 16.03% from 2012 to 2016. Malaysian National Cancer Registry reported that in year 2007 until 2011, 69.9% of lung cancer are men and the remaining 30.1% are women. Chinese become the dominant lung cancer cases representing 51.04% of total lung cancer patients in Malaysia followed by Malay, 44.81% and Indian, 4.16%. Treatments for lung cancer patients may vary by cancer stages. If cancer were just spread in one place, doctor may recommend a local treatment to get rid of cancer completely. Whereas, if a cancer has spread throughout the whole body, more comprehensive treatments may be needed. Therefore, knowing the probability of transition rate between cancer stages is important for healthcare cost effectiveness evaluation and expected cost calculation. This paper aims to estimate lung cancer transition rate by stages using the Functional Markov model. The Lung cancer transition rate will be calculated based on discrete time on a yearly basis. As a result, the probability of a Lung cancer patient recovering or deteriorating can be estimated.

Abstract

Thoracic time-sequential MRI can be used to assess diaphragm motion pattern without exposing radiation to subject. Clinicians may employ the motion to evaluate the severeness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study proposed a novel method of diaphragm motion extraction method on time-sequential thoracic MRI in sagittal plane. Otsu’s threshold and active contour algorithm are used to obtain diaphragm boundary. An automatic diaphragm motion tracking and extraction of respiratory pattern are also performed based on the diaphragm boundary. A total of 1200 frames time-sequential MRI in sagittal plane was obtained for total of 15 subjects (8 healthy volunteers and 7 COPD patients). The proposed method successfully extracts diaphragm motion and respiratory patterns for both healthy volunteers and COPD patients. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i2.7375

Abstract

In this work we develop a novel approach for the automatic recognition of red Fuji apples within a tree canopy using three distinguishable color models in order to achieve automated harvesting. How to select the recognition model is important for the certain intelligent harvester employed to perform in real orchards. The L*a*b color model, HSI (Hue, Saturation and Intensity) color model and LCD color difference model, which are insensitive to light conditions, are analyzed and applied to detect the fruit under the different lighting conditions because the fruit has the highest red color among the objects in the image. The fuzzy 2-partition entropy, which could discriminate the object and the background in grayscale images and is obtained from the histogram, is applied to the segment the Fuji apples under complex backgrounds. A series of mathematical morphological operations are used to eliminate segmental fragments after segmentation. Finally, the proposed approach is validated on apple images taken in natural tree canopies. A contribution reported in this work, is the voting scheme added to the natural tree canopy which recognizes apples under different light influences. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i7.1574

Abstract

The weakness He-Dawson’s threshold multi-secret sharing scheme is presented and analyzed. By using the one-way function thought in the He-Dawson scheme, a new multi-use and multi-secret sharing scheme is proposed. The improved scheme is multi-time-use of once secret shares distribution and can resist conspiring attack. Furthermore, the new scheme is multi-secret sharing, group secrets can be reconstructed in free order and different group secret is corresponding to different threshold value which can meet with different practical application. Abstract

The importance and benefits of healthcare mobile applications is increasing rapidly, especially when such applications are connected to the internet of things (IoT). This paper describes a smart knowledge-based system (KBS) that helps patients showing symptoms of Influenza verify being infected with Coronavirus, commonly known as COVID-19. In addition to the systems’ diagnostic functionality, it helps these patients get medical assistance fast by notifying medical authorities using the IoT. This system displays patient’s location, phone number, date and time of examination. During the applications’ development, the developers used Twilio, short message service (SMS), WhatsApp, and Google map applications.

Abstract

In order to realize the accurate distortion parameters test of aircraft power supply system, and satisfy the requirement of corresponding equipment in the aircraft, the novel power parameters test system based on improved filtering algorithm is introduced in this paper. The hardware of the test system has the characters of s portable and high-speed data acquisition and processing, and the software parts utilize the software Labwindows/CVI as exploitation software, and adopt the pre-processing technique and adding filtering algorithm. Compare with the traditional filtering algorithm, the test system adopted improved filtering algorithm can help to increase the test accuracy. Abstract

This paper proposes a novel topology of hybridizing battery, supercapacitor and hybrid capacitor for optimum utilization of energy in electric vehicles. Hybridization of energy storage has been the theme of much research in the field of power electronics as it is an effective economic solution towards improving the utilization of energy. Batteries have fallen short in comparison to both supercapacitors and hybrid capacitors because of their low power density and limited charge-discharge cycle. Most of the previous research in this field focuses on hybridizing either supercapacitor or hybrid capacitor with the battery but not both. This paper deals with the combination of both supercapacitor and hybrid capacitor with the battery thus addressing the problem of the lack of autonomy between two recharge points in supercapacitors, three hybridization techniques are considered and the balance point of the supercapacitor and hybrid capacitor banks is presented. The prospects of using a multiple-input DC-DC converter is also analyzed. An experimental electric vehicle profile was used to verify the proposed topology and the results are presented. The application of the novel hybridization of the three energy storage devices can be extended to other applications having a load profile with high crest factors.

Abstract

An aggregate signature scheme can aggregate n signatures on n distinct messages from n distinct signers into a single signature.Thus,n verification equations can be reduced to one.So the aggregate signature adapts to Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). In this paper, we propose an efficient ID-based aggregate signature scheme with constant pairing computations. Compared with the existing ID-based aggregate signature schemes,this scheme greatly improves the efficiency of signature communication and verification. In addition, in this work, we apply our ID-based aggregate signature to authenticated routing protocol to present a secure routing scheme. Our scheme not only provides sound authentication and a secure routing protocol in ad hoc networks, but also meets the nature of MANET. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i1.3456
