Abstract

Many traffic accidents are due to drowsy driving. However, to date, only a few studies have been conducted on the gazing properties related to drowsiness. This study was conducted with the objective of estimating the relationship between gazing properties and drowsiness in three facial expression evaluation (FEE) categories: alert (FEE = 0), lightly drowsy (FEE = 1−2), heavily drowsy (FEE = 3−4). Drowsiness was investigated based on these eye-gazing properties by analyzing the gazing signal utilizing an eye gaze tracker and FEE in a driving simulator environment. The results obtained indicate that gazing properties have significant differences among the three drowsiness conditions, with p < 0.001 in a Kruskal–Wallis test. Furthermore, the overall classification accuracy of the three drowsiness conditions based on gazing properties using a support vector machine was 76.3%. This indicates that our proposed gazing properties can be used to quantitatively assess drowsiness.

Abstract

This paper proposes a winner-takes-all based multi-strategy learning for information extraction. Unlike the majority of multi-strategy approaches that commonly combine the prediction of all base learnings involved, our approach takes a different strategy by employing only the best, single predictor for a specific information task. The best predictor (among other predictors) is identified during training phase using k-fold cross validation, which is then retrained on the full training set. Empirical evaluation on two benchmarks data sets demonstrates the effectiveness of our strategy. Out of 26 information extraction cases, our strategy outperforms other information extraction algorithms and strategies in 16 cases. The winner-takes-all strategy in general eliminates the difficult situation in multi-strategy learning when the majority of base learners cannot make correct prediction, resulting in incorrect prediction on its output. In such a case, the best predictor with correct prediction  in our strategy will take over for the overal prediction.

Abstract

Manufacturing organizations implemented Business Intelligence (BI) due to many advantages offered by it. The lack of research on the acceptance of BI in manufacturing motivates the initiative in this study to have an understanding of the factors that influence the acceptance of BI in manufacturing sector. Therefore, the research proposes a model which indicates the acceptance factors of BI in manufacturing. An integrated model consisting of underlying models of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT) and Task-Technology Fit (TTF) will be developed. The new model will formulate 19 hypotheses and 11 factors contributing to the continuance and acceptance of BI. The model will be tested using quantitative and qualitative survey conducted to Malaysian manufacturing companies and validated using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) to investigate the causal and mediating relationships between the factors. The expected result is hoping to suggest that selected factors in the model are positively related towards the acceptance of BI in manufacturing. The results are also hoping to guide future initiatives by industrial practitioners to develop and distribute BI to the manufacturing market.

Abstract

The permanent magnets can be damaged for the tremendous centrifugal stress when the permanent magnet rotor rotates in high-speed. In this paper, the mechanical strength of high-speed permanent magnet rotor was researched. Stability operation mechanical conditions of the surface-mounted permanent magnet rotor were analyzed. The mathematical model between the shrink range of bandage and the maximum operating speed were concluded. The strengths of two kinds of surface-mounted permanent magnet rotors were calculated and compared using contact finite element method. For buried type permanent magnet rotor, the equivalent ring method was put forward to calculate its stress limit. The mathematical relationships between the maximum velocity and iron bridge thickness has been deduced. Using finite element method, the stress distributions was analyzed. The research results have shown that the high speed permanent magnet rotors designed according to the method proposed here had the adequate mechanical strength. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i3.4675

Abstract

The joy we derive from our ability to commute and interact freely with the world as a result of our possession of sight with the naked eyes are enormous however the Visually impaired people find great difficulty in moving around freely without a human guide, especially in a new terrain. This research reports the design and fabrication process of an intelligent walking staff (iWalk) specially designed for the visually disabled individuals to argument their loss of sight, improve and ease their navigation. iWalk was designed around water and ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles and water ahead. iWalk also has a wireless RF remote control buzzer for localization and detection in case it gets misplaced. The proposed system operability and efficiency was adequately tested using physical dataset composed of randomized locations with random obstacles and water. The proposed algorithm achieves an overall efficiency of 90% detection rate for water and ultrasonic sensor and 85.75% for the RF wireless remote control.

Abstract

The electricity companies enforced some legislation on the electricity consumption contracts because the electricity network cannot bear the increasing demands of consumers. Therefore, a new controlling system is required to improve the frequent variations of the power system operating point (OP). Consequently, the flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controllers should be able to integrate with recent OP. Coordination of FACTS controller is more sophisticated due to various OP and uncertainties parametric in cooperation with the non linearity of power system (PS). Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) plays very important role like the stability support of large and small transient-disturbance in PS. Therefore, the aim of this research is presents fuzzy logic (FL) with the PI controller (a novel controller) its ability to improve the performance of the power system along with the capability of switch irregular and rough actual world data. This new controlling system may be suitable for a wide range of applications especially the models which deal with huge and complicated data analysis. This new controller system carries out the adjustments of the voltage on DC capacitor under transient and steady-state conditions.

Abstract

Identification of weak load buses which contributes to voltage instability problem is crucial in order for an appropriate mitigation action to be executed. The current power system transmission is not only stressed to deliver high load demand at the receiving end but also facing new challenges brought by the penetratrion of renewable energy sources. This new scenario requires power system operation and analysis to be robust and fast in detecting the accurate weak load bus for correction action. Due to this, many online indices to detect weak load bus during power system contingency have been developed. Nevertheless, LQP_LT is of the latest index developed which ultimately has the reactive power tracing capability for weak load bus detection and generate priority ranking list of the weak load buses. This index was tested on IEEE 14 bus test system for different contingency scenarios. The results obtained from the LQP_LT index is compared and validated with the PV and QV analyses obtained using industrial graded PSS/E software. It was concluded that the LQP_LT index is found to be robust, efficient and need less computation time as compared to the execution of voltage stability analysis using the PSS/E Tool.

Abstract

One of the analyses used in the field of corpus linguistics is comparing the word occurrence from different text corpora. This technique can be used to identify how a certain discipline change over time through text analysis. In this study, the changes of the context of Malaysian Friday sermons are investigated. The text corpus was developed by taking the Friday sermons spoken in Kuala Lumpur mosques in the year 2015. A total of 52 sermons were used for the text corpus because there are a total of 52 Friday sermons in a year. The Malay text corpus was constructed by using PHP and MySQL, and only the top words spoken were inserted into the text corpus. This text corpus is then compared with a previously developed text corpus from 2010 Friday sermons. The new text corpus overlapped with the old text corpus by 82%. Analysis also shows the difference of semantic between 2010 and 2015 Friday sermons.

Abstract

In the current scenario of modern era, providing security to an individual is always a matter of concern when a huge volume of electronic data is gathering daily. Now providing security to the gathered data is not only a matter of concern but also remains a notable topic of research. The concept of Privacy Preserving Data Publishing (PPDP) defines accessing the published data without disclosing the non required information about an individual. Hence PPDP faces the problem of publishing useful data while keeping the privacy about sensitive information about an individual. A variety of techniques for anonymization has been found in literature, but suffers from different kind of problems in terms of data information loss, discernibility and average equivalence class size. This paper proposes amalgamated approach along with its verification with respect to information loss, value of discernibility and the value of average equivalence class size metric. The result have been found encouraging as compared to existing  k-anonymity based algorithms such as Datafly, Mondrian and Incognito on various publically available datasets.
