Abstract

Taking STC89C52RC single-chip as control core, this research realizes intelligent control function, which can automatically detect whether there is someone in the room and turn on/off LED table lamp; brightness of LED lamp can be adjusted with manual mode. In addition to that, it also has other functions such as displaying time and date, and posture correction. In general, time, data and brightness can be regulated through key module. 8 high brightness white LED are used in illumination module, among which, light sensitive module is applied for testing luminous intensity of environment; ultrasonic distance measuring module is utilized for detecting the distance from men to table lamp through transmitting and receiving ultrasound. In the evening, light is on when the distance from men to table lamp is within certain range; and light is off when exceeding this range. However, if the distance is lower than the specified minimum distance, buzzer will alarm to warn user that the seating position needs to be corrected. C language programming is employed for the integrated software to achieve the overall control function.

Abstract

PID control strategy should be understood as a huge part in the education oriented on process control. Application of suitable GUI windows software can contribute in the increase of education quality and providing a better understanding of PID control through as it provides a user friendly environment which is suitable and comfortable for teaching, learning and training application. This paper present the PID control system analysis by explaining the PID controller three-term parameters, PID control types and structure, and PID tuning approach using Ziegler-Nichols and manual tuning method (in both s-domain and z-domain) with the help of simulation and Graphical User Interface GUI windows based on MATLAB. This software package is targeted for engineering students and practicing engineers.

Abstract

This paper presents biodiesel as an emerging renewable energy source which could meet substantially the very large growing electric energy demand maintaining the ecological balance. Biodiesel is a sustainable energy source which makes the environment out of pollution. The simplest process for biodiesel production called transesterification was carried out to produce biodiesel from neem oil. The output parameters such as speed, voltage, current and power are of the alternator are analysed for different loads using pure diesel, different biodiesel-diesel blends (80% biodiesel & 20% diesel, 60% biodiesel  & 40% diesel, 40% biodiesel & 60% diesel, 20% biodiesel  & 80% diesel) to an I.C engine. Abstract

In order to solve the problem of time difference ultrasonic flow meter’s low accuracy, against the basic characteristics of the sample data, a data-processing algorithm is proposed. First, we use shell sort do a data pre-processing to the samples, then remove the error of the sample space by complex digital filter, and use the error compensation algorithm to get the final sample results. Among them, the complex digital filter is mainly composed by median filtering algorithm, sliding window, Peters algorithm and the weighted average algorithm. This kind of data processing algorithm can effectively filter out the error of the sample space. It can also make a large improvement to the accuracy of ultrasonic flow meter while ensure the stability and real-time. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i9.3282

Abstract

The performance of servers at the data centers is affected when the servers are overloaded. To overcome this problem, the workload at the overloaded servers has to be redistributed to other servers which is possible with live VM migration. Live migration plays a crucial role in handling the overload at the data centers without service interruption. However, live migration also incurs some performance loss and energy overhead. The energy consumption at the data centers is a matter of utmost concern both in terms of economy and ecology. In this paper we are proposing a novel approach to find the most suitable server for VM placement. We have introduced an Optimal VM Allocation Framework (OVAF) in which the hosts at the source requests the destination for their available slots. Based on the response from the available servers, the utilization factor is calculated and the selection of appropriate destination for VM placement is done. Simulations carried out have shown 10% improvement in energy saving.

Abstract

With the development of Web, the optimized question is becoming more and more prominent, so the Web performance optimization is inevitable. The important principle of Web Performance Optimization is understanding, and recognizing that gain must lose, the repayment is decreasing progressively, and return is diminishing at the same time, the optimized goal is the overall performance, and start from the highest level to optimize will obtain the biggest. Models of improving Web performance are as follows: sharing costs, high-speed caching, parallel processing, profiles, and using known information. To optimize the performance of Web database is also critical, such as to analyze and research from the cache, statements, tables, connection pooling, query, index, and several other aspects. Abstract

On UHV power transmission lines, when single-phase ground fault happen, it will appear secondary arc on lines, the existence of secondary arc impact on the stable operation of system. The effectiveness of single-pole autoreclosure (SPAR) in maintaining power system stability is largely determined by the speed with which secondary arc extinction, and hence autoreclosure, can be achieved. The paper adopts total harmonic distortion (THD) to judge the status of arc. First, the simulation model of secondary arc is established by ATP software. Then, faulted phase voltage and secondary arc are simulated in different close angle. Last, spectrum characteristics and harmonic content of faulted phase voltage and current are analyzed in different close angle, at the same time, THD of non-faulted phase is also analyzed by Fourier algorithm. Through the fault phase voltage and current simulation and Fourier analysis, which comes to the conclusion that at the peak in the power supply voltage secondary arc is the most difficult to extinguish and the harm to insulation is the greatest. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i6.1411

Abstract

Demand Response Program (DRP) is a program developed in western country to cater high load demand. This system enhance the quality of the current smart grid system. This program encourage two-ways interaction between the consumer and the utility provider. The consumers are required to reduce their load consumption upon request by the utility provider, thus avoiding them from paying for the high load demand. However, the current design of DRP is seem to put the user at disadvantages. Thus, deployment of the new practice equipped with renewable energy sources will make the system more user- friendly. As DRP prove to be beneficial in many terms, this project is conducted to find DRP relevancy to be implemented in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). According to the electrical consumption data disclosed by Facility Management Division, the power consumed by UTHM is remarkably high especially during 11.00 am to 12.00 pm. Thus, DRP is being proposed to be put into practise during this period. Nonetheless, it is not economically wise to implement the program to the whole campus. Therefore, three buildings with the most power consumption had been chosen for this study. They are the library, Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FKAAS) building and Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education (FPTV) building. The building power consumption and economic evaluation had been analysed using HOMER simulation. From the analysis, the combination of FPTV and FKAAS had been chosen for DRP implementation. The reason are, these buildings have superiority over the library in term of reliability and effectiveness. In terms of economy, it is almost equivalent to each other.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the role of cloud computing in achieving success in e-governance in Jordan. This paper investigates the effect of four accomplishment aspects (availability, flexibility, cost saving and scalability) for executing cloud computing technology in telecommunication companies on Jordan e-governance implementation. A questionnaire was developed to collect data from respondents working for the three-main public mobile telephone network operators: Zain, Orange and Umniah. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences program was used in the descriptive analysis of the responses. The results show that all four success factors have a high level of impact, separately and together, on e-governance in Jordan. Cost saving has the highest impact, followed by scalability, availability and flexibility. Based on these results, the study makes some suggestions for further research that could enrich understanding of the implementation of cloud computing and its effect on egovernance in Jordan.

Abstract

The motion performs evaluation indexes of numerical control machine tools (NC) are made of multiple elements. In order to evaluate motion performs of numerical control machine tools objectively, we have applied the extenics theory to establish the matter-element model for the motion performs evaluation of the NC. The relational degree was calculated by introducing the relational function in the extension set theory, and the evaluation indexes weight coefficient of NC were defined by using the 1-9 scale law in AHP (the analytic hierarchy process). A numerical control machine tool as a study object, the motion performs was studied by using the extenics theory. The result indicates that the extenics theory is appropriate for the motion performs evaluation .The motion performs of the evaluated NC was good, the evaluation method possesses a certain practicability.
