Abstract

A flexible optical sensor unit was developed for the detection of albumin level in human urine. It consists of polydimethylsiloxane thinfilm with the microscopic glass as the substrate. A gradual increase of albumin level may indicate signs of health problem such as diabetes, hypertension, and endothelial dysfunction. The experimental results showed there are a spectral shift and an increase in absorbed light increase in intensity of light with sodium urate at different concentration as a substitute of urine sample. The transmittance and reflection of PDMS was determined in the 400–1400 nm wavelength range using halogen-detrium as the excitation light source to predict the sensor sensitivity based on the Beer–Lambert law. The results exhibited that the light intensity increases as the concentration of the sodium urate increases. This performance of prototype sensor ignites an alternative for albumin detection using flexible structure.

Abstract

In high-voltage (HV) power equipment, degradation of insulation has been main concern for protection of equipment. This is due to occurrence of partial discharges (PD) activity within HV insulating systems which can be initiated from different types of local internal or external defects. Thus, partial discharge (PD) identification and classification are important for diagnostic insulation systems problems in order to ensure maintenance process can be carried out effectively and hence improve reliability and durable operation of HV equipment. In this work, the relation of the observable statistical characteristics from PD data with the characteristic of the defect is an important factor to determine the defect inside insulation system. Ultimately, the statistical parameters obtained from PD data can be used to classify different PD sources occur inside HV insulation system. Thus, the objective of this paper is to produce a unique pattern according to discharge source using statistical method. Several statistical parameters such as mean, variance, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis have been used and analysed.

Abstract

Advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have impacted the society in many ways. Be it education, healthcare, media or governance, the transformation is visible. As individual entities like education or healthcare systems have already implemented ICT to certain extent, e-governance is yet to make a significant progress even though several initiatives are undertaken. E-governance means activities like voting, administration, financial transaction etc., are enabled using automation systems.  This paper discusses one part of the e-governance; e-voting. As e-voting empowers government, there are lot of challenges in implementing the e-voting system considering security threats and confidentiality involved in it. Online voting (e-voting) needs to be deployed as more convenient, relatively secure and less resource consuming system.   E-voting system should ensure convenience for people to be able to access the system from personal or public computer with security and confidentiality. The presence of e-voting system with all the necessary security measures and convenience can be a potential solution for low voter turnout at the polls.  The presented work demonstrates an online e-voting prototype system called SecureV. The proposed model achieves specific tasks namely, maintaining the anonymity of the voter, encryption of the vote, integrity check and avoids second time voting.

Abstract

Psychological problems in college students like depression, pessimism, eccentricity, anxiety etc. are caused principally due to the neglect of continuous monitoring of students’ psychological well-being. Identification of depression at college level is desirable so that it can be controlled by giving better counseling at the starting stage itself. The disturbed mental state of a student suffering from depression would be clearly evident in the student’s facial expressions.Identification of depression in large group of college students becomes a tedious task for an individual. But advances in the Image-Processing field have led to the development of effective systems, which prove capable of detecting emotions from facial images, in a much simpler way. Thus, we need an automated system that captures facial images of students and analyze them, for effective detection of depression. In the proposed system, an attempt is being made to make use of the Image processing techniques, to study the frontal face features of college students and predict depression. This automated system will be trained with facial features of positive and negative facial emotions. To predict depression, a video of the student is captured, from which the face of the student is extracted. Then using Gabor filters, the facial features are extracted. Classification of these facial features is done using SVM classifier. The level of depression is identified by calculating the amount of negative emotions present in the entire video. Based on the level of depression, notification is send to the class advisor, department counselor or university counselor, indicating the student’s disturbed mental state. The present system works with an accuracy of 64.38%. The paper concludes with the description of an extended architecture for depression detection as future work.

Abstract

This paper discusses on the breakdown voltage of vegetable oils with nanoparticles added to be used as insulating oil for transformers. Raw samples of Palm Oil (PO) and Coconut Oil (CO) were used in this research. Different percentages of silicone carbide (SiC) nanoparticles was added into the samples of the vegetable oils. The different parameters of the vegetable oil mixtures were investigated through the breakdown voltage tests to analyse the effect of the additive on the dielectric strength of the oils. The performance of insulating oils varies according to the percentage of nanoparticles added through viscosity test and partial discharge (PD) measurement. The initial results for vegetable oils showed that the percentage of additives influenced the value of breakdown voltage of the oils highly. Furthermore, the result shows that PD measured became very low after the addition of silicone carbide nanoparticles.

Abstract

User satisfaction is one of the system use variables which is affected by the system creation variables in the information system (IS) success measurements, especially in the mandatory use of IS. This paper reports the relational variable assessments between three variables of the system creation dimension towards the user satisfaction variable in the library information system (LIS) implementation of a sampled university in Indonesia. Practically, the measurement has never been done since the early system implementation in the institution. The study focused on the status of the user satisfaction construct and what are the factors which influenced the construct. The used measurement model was adopted and adapted from the DeLone and McLean’s IS success model. A total of 185 respondents were selected in this study using multi-stage purposeful random sampling. The researchers used the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with the SmartPLS version 2.0 for analyzing the collected data. Findings of the study showed that users of the LIS were sufficiently satisfied and the proposed hypotheses were accepted. In terms of the adopted model, besides the findings theoretically proved that the user satisfaction construct has affected by the system creation constructs; the findings may also have proposed the practical recommendations to the sampled institution for the next LIS improvements in particular.

Abstract

Fingerprint is the most popular way to identify persons, it is assumed a unique identity, which enable us to return the record of specific person through his fingerprint, and could be useful in many applications; such as military applications, social applications, criminal applications… etc. In this paper, the study of a new model based deep learning is suggested. The focus is directed on how to enhance the training model with the increase of the testing accuracy by applying four scenarios and comparing among them. The effects of two dedicated optimizers are shown and their contrast enhancement is tested. The results prove that the testing accuracy is 85.61% for “Adadelta” optimizer, whereas for “Adam” optimizer, it is 91.73%.

Abstract

A Between two line follower stand before the barrier mobile robot is a mobile machine that can detect and follow between two line drawn on the floor. Generally, the path can be white lines on a black surface or it can be black lines on a white surface. Today robot is very important in our life because it can do everything without human intervention, especially for difficult or danger works. Therefore in this research we will going to design robot that able to walk between two lines, and at the same time, this robot can pass the barriers that facing it. We conclude from this that this robot can help in many areas, such as to be a helper in hazardous work or in the transport of materials that are dangerous to human life, Or that this robot be helpful for people with disabilities where carts industry able to navigate seamlessly, also can use this robot in military actions.

Abstract

Modern maritime on-board communications have to be improved for safety and security. Current technology provides ease and expediency together to the crew and passengers with the help of ubiquitous technologies. Making use of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) on board is a current custom of implementing ubiquitous technology for ships as it is important for an on-board communication system which provides reliability and flexibility for handling emergency situations. Two key phases of this scheme are: merging different on-board communiqué networks into a fusion system and enabling the cooperation between them; smoothly incorporating these networks with a consideration of backward compatibility, ease of deployment and association to shore via Internet. A combined integration move towards is selected based on comprehensive analysis.

Abstract

The combination of 1D zero cross correlation (ZCC) and 1D Multi Diagonal (MD) results a new two dimensional hybrid called 2D ZCC/MD code for spectral/spatial OCDMA system. The proposed code aims to enhance the functional qualities of Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) and to overcome the limitations of one dimensional codes. In this paper,   2D ZCC/MD is evaluated at data rate; 622Mbps.  A comparison of the proposed 2D ZCC/MD code to 1D Random Diagonal (RD) and 1D Modified Double Weight (MDW) highlight that 2D ZCC/MD  can support  a large number of active  users even at the higher user bit rate. Furthermore, in term of effective power 2D ZCC/MD can achieve lower effective power.
